***** Vol.4 Chap.43 Back to DC *****
With the DC traffic at noon, the suburban took to the side streets weaving around crowded roads. George knew the roads by heart and was better than the GPS in getting to where they were going.
“We have a tail.” George told Joe.
“You know what to do.”
“Yes, sir.”
Shifting down a gear, George drove like a mad man through the alleys.
JB was hanging on to her seat for fear of her life. Even with the seat belt tightly fastened and both hands on the handhold above her, she was being rocked from side to side.
Calmly, Joe picked up his phone.
“We have a situation, requesting assistance in road blocks.”
Joe then turned to George. “They are setting a road block on Washington Parkway Bridge.”
“Yes, sir.”
A sudden turn George made threw JB against the door and would have gone right through the window if it was not for the seat belt she was wearing.

“Do…you…drive like this all the time?” She stammered out to Joe.
“Nah! This is just a notch about normal, not the real exciting pace yet.”
She shuddered what ‘the exciting pace’ would be like.
They zoomed through the road block.
“We lost the tail.” George announced.
“Good job, partner.” Joe responded.
JB was not sure whether to be thankful or not. At least she was still alive.
Just when JB was calming down, George made a sudden turn into an underground garage and screeched into a halt at the garage access control. Both men took out their badges flashed them before the guards. Then they informed the guards they have a visitor, Dr. JB Smith, with them.
The guard retracted the tire guards and waved them through and they continued to descend into the underground garage.
After parking the car there were more door controls, more questions, more guards.
“Here we are.” Joe told her.
They turn a corner down another corridor and arrived at a small non-descript room.
“Please make yourself comfortable, and someone will be with you shortly.”
JB went inside the room and noted that there were only a table and two chairs. She opened the door and saw Joe and George standing guard outside.
“Please wait inside.” Joe said. “The case officer will be down shortly.”
“This looks like an interrogation room?”
“We just have a few questions to ask you.”
“What am I being interrogated for?”
“I don’t have that information, Dr. Smith. Our order was to escort you safely here.”
She nodded to them and went back into the room, still baffled.
She was pacing back and forth the room trying to understand the situation.
After another ten minutes, she opened the door again. Like sentries, Joe and George still stood guard outside the door.
“How much longer?”
“The case officer is on his way down now.”
