Vol.4 Chap.28 Another pep talk

***** Vol.4 Chap.28 Another pep talk *****

Johan continued the pep talk about PPTSB.

“We pass that information of your discovery to our geneticists and they were able to design a special technique to repair the DNA coding for those judged to be in the violent category.”

“You have?”

“Yes. You have heard of the attack on a South Africa village by a band of violent gorillas?”

“Yeah, terrible.”

“Well, after the attack, we went in and administer our designer virus to repair the DNA of the gorillas so that they became docile. That is why you do not see any attack by this band of aggressive gorillas.”

“Good for you. The world needs to know about what you have done.”

Johan smiled.

“In time, you will get to tell our story to the whole world. Then in the special meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, I heard your presentation how the days are coming when persons with violent behavior will be eradicated. We are absolutely with you and want to do that as well.”

JB was delighted.

That was a very effective pep talk from a common ground.

He continued to tell her that they have also tried the acupuncture technique on violent criminals. While the technique did work, the effects were only temporary and hence could not be relied upon.

“I didn’t think that acupuncture was the way to go either.” JB asserted.

“Exactly.”

He then briefed her that their advance science department had stumbled upon a confidential source where they found out that tea brewed from a rare plant had a strong effect on a person’s behavior. With great difficulty, the company negotiated with the source to get a small supply of the tea leaves.

The experimental branch of the company then experimented with those tea leaves and was able to reproduce the results. Those were the datasets that we want you to do analyses for us this summer. He further told her that her analyses algorithms were superb and helped the experimental department with great certainty in separating the violent group from the docile group.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Then, when you gave your presentation during your interview, you said you were collaborating with Dr. Kendall Tularish. That gave the Advanced Science team the idea of using spectral data from saliva. We know you were planning on using the mass spectrometer on blood samples. So, we did not want to compete with you. Besides, we wanted an easier test for mass screening.

The Advanced Science team came up with a saliva test that could be applied to those who had taken the tea and those who had not as the control group. Through the saliva test, the team was able to partially identify certain protein synthesized by those who took the tea. It was not easy to synthesize the specific set of enzymes, but we thought we did it.

We wanted to test the effectiveness of those enzymes. Through our contacts with people working in South Africa, we heard that a team of warriors were going to attack another tribe. So, we added the synthesized enzymes in their victory drink without their knowledge.

“You remember that attack?” Johan asked.

“Yes, that was gruesome.”

“But guess what, JB? The synthesized enzymes worked! The attackers became docile and manageable after they drink from their victory drink with our synthesized protein inside. Now we are convinced that we do have something superior here. But we need to refine these synthesized enzymes and calibrate its effects. We need lots of experiments to observe and document the dosage and the effects. This is where you come in.”

JB’s eyes became wide open. She was clearly eating up everything Johan was telling her.

“The experimental team wants to run a lot of tests with different dosage given to the volunteers and the control group. We have a lot of tests planned to make sure we covered all aspects and angles. That is why we need you to be here to run and fine tune your algorithms in the most expeditious manner.”

He continued, “We need you to be part of our team. We need you to head up a small computer technology team. They are super computer programmers, but they need someone like you with a vision to tell them what to do.”

JB was totally gained at this point.

She did not need any more convincing and was ready to work. Fame, fortune, and glory flashing in her eyes.

“May be later. I am familiar with my programs. It would take too much time to explain that to someone else. Besides, I worked best alone.”

“Suit yourself. Thank you. On behalf of all of us here at the company, we truly thank you for your help.”

Johan patted her hands.

“What else can we help to make you more comfortable?”

“I need a more comfortable bed. I cannot sleep on a straw mattress.”

“I will put in an order for you. You will receive the best bed the world can make within a week.”

“Better meals?

“I will see what we can do about that. I am also pretty tired of this stuff from our kitchen staff. Why don’t you plan some meals and I will pass on your suggestions to the kitchen staff.”

“One more thing. I need a key card.”

“Oh yes. I have one made for you this morning.” Johan fished out a plain unattractive key card in yellow.

JB looked at hers and looked at Johan’s, “I think I like yours better.”

They both laughed.

“Listen, I need to go back to attend to more paperwork and meetings with upper management. Let me show you where the computer room is. Here are your login credentials.” Johan fished out another piece of paper from his pocket and handed that to JB.

“Shall we go?”

Johan walked JB to the computer room and left her there.
