***** Vol.4 Chap.22 More data*****
With the advent of summer and the third dataset in hand from Dr. Schmidtiz, it is time for JB to get back to work.
At the back of her mind, she was wondering how he always seemed to keep up with the latest that she was doing. As long as he supplied her with useful data, the partnership was invaluable. She needed data to analyze and they required a good data analyst. So, she thought nothing more about her suspicion.
After all, PPTSB seemed to be a noble organization trying to help people to turn from aggressive criminal to calm and useful members of the society. By helping them, she would positively be adored for her noble deeds. That could only help her image around the society.
This is a win-win situation. She kept telling herself.
With that thought entrenched in her, she never once thought of checking out the company, but instead began to work on the data with gusto.
JB was never a patient person. When she set her mind on something, she would work tirelessly till her set goal was in view. While she was pleased that she had prior results linking genetic coding with violent behaviors, she wanted to push the envelope and find a way to determine the present state of a person in terms of violent tendencies.
She was encouraged after her talk with Kendall that when the gene was expressed, typically, the messaging agent was a protein, or more specifically a type of hormone. She was truly anxious for this new piece of the puzzle and was waiting impatiently for the data from Dr. Lovelace. Disappointedly, Lovelace’s last dataset yielded nothing.
She thought if one can detect the amount of a specific hormone that led to aggression and another specific hormone that led to docility, then she could truly rid the world of aggressive behavior.
If Dr. Schmidtiz was correct, the mass spec data were taken from the same set of individual when they were aggressive, slightly irritated, and calm. This dataset was vastly different from the one obtained from Lovelace and appeared starkly promising.

Though it took some working and tweaking on the program and a few late nights, but in no time, JB was able to produce a viable model to estimate the state of mind of the subjects.
After a few more randomizing of the inputs, she was relatively confident about the model produced by her programming.
Time to contact Dr. Schmidtiz again.
At the appointed time the next day, JB hightailed into the cafe but he was already there sitting in a table by himself. JB noticed that at the corner of the cafe, there was another group of rough looking ‘businessmen’ carrying on a heated conversation.
She paid no attention to them, but went straight to his table.
After a few pleasantries and the drink order, she opened the laptop and went through her model in predicting the subject’s degree of aggression.
He listened intently with few interruptions.
She patiently explained to him that the group of individuals with aggressive behavior appeared to have spikes in a certain area of the mass spec, what she called the aggressive set. Then she showed that the same individuals with calm emotions were lacking in spikes in the aggressive set but rather displayed spikes in what she called the docile set.
By zeroing in on the intensity of the aggressive set and the docile set, she had generated a viable model in gauging the degree of aggression in an individual.
Totally self-confident and proud with her achievement, she sat back and smiled.
He was visibly snowed and awed. He kept saying, “This is unbelievable. This is tremendous. This is awesome! This is earth-shaking, This is…”
With that comment, she immediately saw herself being recognized at the forefront of research and the Nobel Prize coning a little closer to her.
“Let me take the laptop back and show the resident scientists. I think they really want to see your program in action. I know we are collecting one more data set for you to analyze. I will return the laptop when we are done with the next data set.”
“The laptop was yours to start with.”
“Oh, I almost forgot.” He handed her a thick envelope.
“Thank you.”
The envelope seemed a bit heavier this time. She was weighing it in her hand.
He smiled.
“The organization was so impressed with your results that they instructed me to add a small bonus.”
“That is very generous of them. Please thank them for me.”
“Of course.”
He stood up and JB followed.
“I will be in contact when the next data set is ready.”
“Sounds good. I will leave first, then.”
“I am right behind you. Bye.”
“Bye.”
JB literally skipped out of the cafe.
Dr. Schmidtiz sat back down and finished his drink as the characters from the other table came to join him.
“Well, what do you think of our chap?”
“Naïve and gullible,” one said.
“She still didn’t know?” Another asked.
“Nope!”
