***** Vol.4 Chap.42 Visit from two well-dressed gentlemen *****
Puzzled, JB used her own laptop and the lab computers to retrieve the old datasets used for the genome studies.
There was no reason to doubt that the dataset was tempered with. She examined all the data, all the results and concluded that the generative AI model was valid and effective. However, the model was very naïve and required multiple DNA segments.
She recalled that the dataset from Dr. Schmidtiz did not have that many DNA segments. In fact, she was pressed to keep refining the model to only a few short DNA segments for predicting aggressive or subdued subjects.
So, for the first milestone, she enhanced her old model with the dataset provided by him. She remembered exactly what she did and she could repeat the same refinements on her lab computer.
Immediately she went to work programming the lab computer but using the original dataset from the penitentiary and associated siblings.
While her lab computer was working, there was a knock on her door.
“Come in.”
Two well-dressed gentlemen walked in.
“Good morning, Dr. Smith. My name is Joe Tolich and my partner is George Polechto. We are from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”
They both flashed their ID cards in front of her for a second.
“If you have time, may we ask you a few questions?”
“Sure. What is this all about?” JB was baffled.
“We have received some document that appeared to be written by you. We wondered if you can examine the authenticity of these documents and confirmed if indeed they are written by you.”
Joe pulled out the three patent applications.
This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.
“How did you get a hold of these materials? This is highly confidential information?” JB was a bit taken back.
“For now, we cannot tell you how we obtained this information. You will find out soon enough. For now, we need you to look at these documents and confirm if they are genuine or not.”
JB flipped through the first document. It was a description of the process in differentiating aggressive versus passive subjects through the DNA segments.
“Yes, I invented the process, and I wrote this whole patent application.”
JB gave the document back to Joe who glanced at George. Then he produced the second document and handed it to JB.
“What about this second document?”
JB flipped through the second document which is a description of the process in analyzing saliva test to determine the progress of turning aggressive subjects into docile ones.
“Yes, this was my work. I worked hard on the dataset supplied to me.”
“Who supplied the dataset to you?”
“That is confidential.” JB trying to play the same game.
“Fair enough.”
Joe pulled out the third document and handed that to JB.
She flipped through the document and recognized all the processes she did in identifying the crucial ingredients for the blue pill.
“Yes, I recognized the process and my work.”
“Thank you very much. Dr. Smith. Incidentally, George and I were also at the workshop last week and we were very impressed at your presentation and your vision.”
JB felt softened a little and her tension ebbed away slightly. She cocked her head and seemed to remember seeing them at the Workshop.
“We have a team of scientists who would like to talk to you and learn more precisely what you have accomplished. Would you please come with us?”
“I am busy, come back next week…and I would be gone next week.” Of course, she said the last part only to herself.
“Sorry, Dr, Smith. Our order was to escort you to our office.”
“What is the urgency?”
“We don’t know. We are just following orders.”
“I have a program running on my lab computer.”
“That can wait.”
“What if I refuse to go with you?”
“That would not be wise.”
“I demand you two to get out of my office or else I will call security.”
“This is official US government business. The Institute security will not interfere.”
“I refuse to move an inch.”
Joe took out the handcuffs and gently placed them on the table. In doing so, he also inconspicuously let his hand gun be exposed.
After pouting for a few minutes and seeing that the delay would not accomplish anything, she finally complied.
“Alright, let’s go, then.”
“Very wise choice.” Joe turned to George, “Bring the car to the front.”
“Yes, sir.” George left promptly.
“Please don’t try to run or make it difficult, we have agents on the ground.”
“Why? I have nothing to hide.”
“Thank you, Dr. Smith. Let’s go.”
By the time, they got to the front, George already had the car running. They boarded the suburban and sped away to the local airport where they boarded a waiting plane.
“Where are we going?”
“Headquarters in Washington, DC.”
