Vol.4 Chap.11 Differing visions

***** Vol.4 Chap.11 Differing visions *****

Doctor Wu quietly slipped away, back to his room. There was clearly something not spoken that was bothering him.

If one can repair the DNA, does that not mean that one can also destroy the DNA? If one can create a super peaceful group of people, can one not also create a super aggressive and violent group of people? If one can cause a person to be docile, does that not mean that one can cause another person to be violent?

With his belief firmly based on the balance and harmony of the yin and yang forces for one’s mere existence, there must be two sides for everything.

Clearly, Doctor Wu was troubled by his moral dilemma and debates within.

After the conference lunch, he really was not interested in the sessions in the afternoon, so he milled around the conference hotel admiring the decorations.

A gigantic arrangement of fresh flowers in the shape of a peacock caught his eye. Quite taken aback by the details of the peacock shape, the fanning of the tail feathers, the color of the whole arrangement, and consequently, he took many pictures of the peacock wondering how many different types of flowers were used to make this arrangement.

As he turned the corner, he saw the chandelier hanging in the front lobby. A plaque said all the entire chandelier was made with Swedish crystals. Gaping with wide open mouth at the chandelier admiring the beauty and dazzling sparkle of light from each crystal, he was mesmerized by the emanating light in rainbow color from each crystal shimmering and glittering in the afternoon sun. He lost count how many individual crystals made up the masterpiece.

As he strolled outside, the magnificent and meticulously manicured garden with trees and shrubs playfully sculpted into different animals stunned him. He wondered how long it took to sculpt a shrub to express such beauty and how many gardeners the hotel had to hire to maintain such a beautiful garden. The sculpted shrubs were so lifelike, he felt he was Alice in Wonderland in Lewis Carroll's fantasy tale.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Having located a bench nearby along the footpath through the garden, he sat there enjoying the view and pretending he was just a little kid, perhaps as Alice lost in the garden. It was good just to let out all the pressures of the hospital for a moment.

While enjoying the scenery, he caught sight of JB at the corner of his eye and snapped back to the present and headed over her direction.

“Dr. Smith!” he called as he approached.

“Oh, hi. Doctor Wu, is it?” JB turned around.

“Yes. That was a very inspiring speech.”

“Thank you. I am glad you liked the presentation.”

She was still grinning from ear to ear from the presentation.

“I was particularly intrigued by your vision that you presented.”

“Yes, what a utopia this world would become.”

“Yes, but I was wondering…”

“Wonder no more. The future is here.”

She was quite confident and proud of herself.

“No, I mean, given the technology that can repair the DNA, can the same technology not be used to damage a person’s DNA?”

“No one would be so stupid to do that.”

“Yeah, but can the same technology that causes a person to be docile not also, at the same time, be used to cause a person to be aggressive?”

“I suppose so. But we are all looking for a bright future.”

“What if the technology falls into the wrong hands and a tribe of super aggressive persons are bred?

“You are too negative. Doctor Wu. My technologies are here to bring about peace and harmony. You got to look at the big picture. Don’t be so narrow-minded. You saw how my vision had inspired the entire audience. I see a glorious future on mankind.”

“I too long for a world of peace and harmony,” he responded.

“Yup. Stay tuned.”

With that said, she turned around and was gone.

And what if the technology fell into the wrong hands? That thought was too much for Doctor Wu. He sauntered back to his room, greatly disturbed and greatly troubled.

I have a vision too! I envision a world of peace and harmony. I envision a world with no pain. I envision a world where there is no aggression. I envision a world with no poverty. But how can we get there?

He had no answers for his vision. He knew his acupuncture technique could only be a temporary solution, at best. His acupuncture treatment could only mend what was broken.
