***** Vol.4 Chap.38 Workshop presentation *****

Safe in her room, JB drew a long hot bath. She was so relaxed that she did not really want to get out of the tub. It was so good to let the tension of the day melt away.

She put on a casual dress that she bought earlier and went downstairs to mingle with the crowd and, of course, to sample the pre-workshop reception. It has been weeks since she tasted some real American food.

She first stopped by the open bar and got a screwdriver. The workshop was a small gathering and there were not as many as attendees in the room as the last conference she went to. She was slightly disappointed that Johan chose this workshop to sound off the earth-shaking inventions they did. But she also understood that timing was everything. After all, she was the one who told Johan about the workshop.

After talking to a few other researchers she knew in the past, she retreated to her room. She wanted a good night's rest and gave a good sounding out tomorrow at the plenary session.

The next morning came soon enough.

Before her talk, Johan called and wished her best of luck and to give everything she got to the presentation.

“Just remember, due to the sensitive nature, don’t mention the company’s name and my name. This is really your idea and your invention.”

“I won’t.”

“By the way, I was called to attend to some other urgent business for the company. I am sorry I will not be there in the plenary session. I tried to get out, but there was no way I could rearrange my schedule.”

“That is ok. I understand. Duty calls.”

“Yeah. Let me make it up to you. I know a nice little restaurant in town. How about we have lunch after your talk to celebrate?”

“That sounds very good.”

“Great. Meet me at the registration desk at noon.”

“I’ll be there.”

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

“Bye.”

“Bye.”

JB went into the plenary session with her head held high. She headed straight to the speakers’ table and Dr. Abrahamson was there already. That lifted her spirit.

“Dr. Abrahamson, good to see you again.”

“Likewise. You seem all ready to go.”

“I am.”

“Great, let’s get started.”

He stood up and addressed the audience.

“Ladies and gentlemen, colleagues and friends, this morning we are most delighted to have a colleague of mine to speak about her vision of the future of science. She may not be as well-known as her predecessor yet, but I believe we will be hearing a lot about her from now on. May I present Dr. JB Smith?”

There was the usual perfunctory clapping from the audience.

JB was not bothered. She told herself, you just wait till the end. You all will be impressed.

With great confidence, JB began her presentation.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I like to take you on a journey from the past to the future…”

That opening set the tone of the presentation.

“…with three major milestones. After that, I like to share with confidence my vision for a better future.”

Anticipation began to build among the audience.

“First, I want to highlight the first milestone: the ability to forecast behavior from the human genome.”

There were a few gasps from the audience.

JB showed conclusively from the database obtained from the penitentiary. That was the database she worked on with her advisor, Dr. Abdulcizi. To her, that was old stuff.

“When the genomic information is expressed, through a complicated process, enzymes are produced in the body, causing the production of other enzymes to either increase or decrease. The ability to quantify the enzymes for aggressive behavior was the second major milestone in my research.”

“Without identifying the source of the data, she showed conclusively how her prediction algorithms had identified aggressive behaviors, but also accurately predicted the degree of aggression rising up in the person in that current state based on the presence of certain detectable enzymes.”

The audience began to be mesmerized with a few gaping mouths about what she was saying.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I am here to present to you for the first time the results of my most recent research. I am able not only to identify the tendency of aggression rising in a person but also my program was able to identify the necessary serum to calm the person down. This was to me the third major milestone and the most significant milestone!”

She said that with a flair with raised hand in the air!

The entire audience sat in awe.

“In conclusion, let me share my vision of the future with you.

1. We can now predict and repair with certainty the degree of violent tendencies in a fetus before the baby is born.

2. We can eradicate persons with evil behaviors.

3. We can realize utopia with all human dwelling together in harmony on this earth.”

Her claims were getting bolder and bolder like other visionaries.

As if charmed, the audience spontaneously stood up and clapped.

She said to herself. This is more like it.

Dr. Chris Abrahamson also stood up clapping his hands.

When the clapping subsided, he said, “Thank you, Dr. Smith. May we all live to see this vision realized?”

The only future she saw in her vision was the dangling of the Nobel prize in front of her.
