Chapter 5
Ezekiel checked the time in his browser and it said that it was about 2 in the afternoon. His siblings were asleep for about two hours so they should wake up soon.
Once Robert and Luke woke up, Ezekiel planned to go to the village market to sell the pheasant that he had killed in the Eagle Forest and would scout the prices of the products available in the market to check the best items that he could purchase from the shopping website using the coins that he would earn from the pheasant and his one remaining copper coin.
He could use the last copper coin to buy salt but he wanted to check things first because he didn’t want to make any mistake. What if salt was somehow as valuable as gold? Instead of earning wealth, it would attract trouble and he wasn’t powerful enough to defend himself against those who would rob him.
Soon the kids woke up and the first thing they did was to run outside. Ezekiel was sure that the two kids were scared that he disappeared while they were sleeping and he could understand their insecurity.
“Did you both have a nice nap?” he asked his siblings and the two kids nodded.
“Boy, hungry!” Luke suddenly said.
“Chip, brother’s name is no longer Boy but Zeke. Say it Zeke. I’m Robert and now you’re not Chip anymore but Luke,” Robert said to their youngest sibling.
Robert kept repeating the names until Luke was able to say Ezekiel’s name, which he shortened to Zeke since it was easy enough. Unfortunately for Robert, his name was shortened by Luke to Bert and Luke easily said his own name. Ezekiel guessed that names with one syllable would be easier for a young child.
“Robert, go ahead and prepare our plates, then we will head to the market to sell the pheasant I killed.”
“Pheasant? What pheasant?”
“It’s inside my magic bag,” Ezekiel said and Robert’s eyes went wide.
Ezekiel still didn’t know if wizards were common or rare in this world. Maybe it’s common in large cities and rare in small villages so in the meantime, he would like low. He didn’t want to be pursued by the villagers as a witch and then burned at the stake.
He simply didn’t know anything about this world but Ezekiel had an inkling that even the original owner of his body didn’t know too much as well since there was a good chance that the siblings were highly uneducated.
When Robert put the plates and cups on the table, Ezekiel cleaned them using Prestidigitation then put a single slice of bread and filled the cups with water. Then he cast Prestidigitation again and this time he thought of making sure that the bread would taste like a bacon sandwich and the water would taste like chocolate milk. Ezekiel was fast falling in love with Prestidigitation. It was highly versatile and they were able to enjoy a simple fare of bread and water because of the cantrip. The cantrip lasted a long time too, which was a whole hour.
“Wow, the bread tasted different from before like delicious meat!” Robert said upon biting the slice of bread.
Luke agreed with his older brother by shouting “Yummy”. After the bread was gone, both kids started drinking the water but since now, it tasted like chocolate milk, the two boys were surprised again and immediately drank the whole cup.
Ezekiel then asked the boys to go to the bathroom which was located just outside their shack and when they were ready, they all walked toward the Eagle Village market. Robert led the way since he knew where it was and he and Luke followed behind.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
He knew that all of them looked really small. Based on the character panel, he was supposed to be 14 years old but he looked around 11. His brother Robert was supposed to be 7 but looked around 5 or 6 and Luke who was supposed to be 4 looked 2 to 3 years old.
Ezekiel knew that due to malnutrition, even if he ate healthy from then on, there was a good chance that he would remain short. There’s still a chance for Robert and Luke since they were still young so he would strive to provide the best nutrition to them.
He grieved for a bit in realizing that he turned from a handsome six-foot man to probably a handsome very short one. Unless magic could help him with that. Anyway, this body was still young and he wouldn’t focus on that. He was just happy that he didn’t feel tired all the time now since this new body of his didn’t have the cancer that probably caused his death on Earth. Ezekiel also had an inkling that even if he contracted that sort of disease, magic could cure it.
While they were walking toward the marketplace, Ezekiel decided that the first spell that he would purchase for his level 1 spell would be the Healing Elixir spell. In the DnD 5th Edition Wizard Spell list, the Healing Elixir was a level 1 spell available for wizards. The spell was extremely overpowered and there were suggestions that for a game, the game master should nerf or limit it. Upon reading the description, his system did limit the spell but only the duration. He specifically remembered that the duration of the spell was supposed to be 24 hours but when he checked it out, it said that the duration was one hour and the Healing Elixir which would appear in a vial could only be consumed by one person, after that the spell needed to be cast again.
Ezekiel didn’t mind since his level 1 spell cooldown was only 2 minutes which was one of the major changes that his system did to the DnD rules.
Unfortunately for Ezekiel, when he checked the prices of the spell, it would be a while before he could afford to purchase the level 1 spell since according to the website, a cantrip would cost him 20 coppers, and a 1st-level spell would cost him a silver coin. He didn’t check the 2nd level spells and above since he didn’t want to get depressed.
When they were about to arrive at the village market, Ezekiel led his two brothers to a hidden corner and checked the surroundings. When he saw that nobody was around to see them, he retrieved the pheasant from his inventory.
The pheasant was huge and Ezekiel was hoping to get at least 10 copper coins for it and possibly more. When Robert and Luke saw the pheasant, his siblings gasped.
“It’s so huge! Maybe we don’t need to sell it, brother. We can cook it and eat it ourselves!” Robert said.
“No. If I sell it, I could use the coins to conjure more delicious food,” Ezekiel said to his brother.
They headed directly to the butcher since he found the pheasant heavy to carry. Ezekiel was sad at how low his strength was and wondered if he should purchase multivitamins to supplement their diet.
When he arrived at the butcher’s, a huge man was butchering some sort of deer but stopped when the man saw him carrying the large pheasant.
“Boy! Are you selling that pheasant?” The butcher asked.
“My name is Zeke and these are my brothers Robert and Luke. Yes, we’re here to sell this pheasant.”
“Oh, when did you kids change your name?”
“We found our parents’ belongings and there we saw that they intended to change our name to those names when we turned ten so I decided to follow my dead parents' desire,” Ezekiel lied but the butcher just smirked.
“I can give you five copper coins for that pheasant,” The butcher said.
“10 copper coins,” Ezekiel calmly said.
“Okay fine, 6 copper coins.”
Ezekiel just reiterated 10 copper coins and when the butcher said that he couldn’t go higher than 7 copper coins Ezekiel said that they would rather eat it instead since they were hungry. He thanked the butcher and then turned around.
“Fine! 9 copper coins!” The butcher shouted.
He faced the butcher again and gave him the pheasant. The butcher angrily gave 9 copper coins to Ezekiel and he just simply thanked the man and the three siblings just left.
For the next hour, Ezekiel and his two brothers roamed around the market to check the prices of the products. Nobody turned them away since everyone knew he recently earned 9 copper coins from the butcher.
When Ezekeil checked the prices of the spices, he saw that the prices were exorbitant and knew he could probably sell some salt but not a lot. For his first sale, he could tell everyone that it was the last remaining thing their parents left them but more than that would make everyone suspicious.
After walking for a couple of hours in the market, Ezekiel saw that the village population was fairly large and there were a lot of folks wearing nice dresses, meaning that a lot of them had coins so he decided to gamble.
He saw that there was a candy shop and the candies that the man was selling were simple like candied Hawthorne and processed fruit but there were still a lot of customers inside.
