Chapter 2

Ezekiel knew that the only thing that could help him right now was his system. He was beginning to get disoriented due to his hunger and thirst so he opened his system again by thinking “System Open” and a panel opened in his view.

Looking at the system panel, he could confirm that it looked like the browser that he recently downloaded including the shortcut of the webpages that he saved on that browser.

The page that Ezekiel was looking at was the most famous search engine website just like the one that the browser he downloaded had but the huge difference was that there was a character panel below the search tab.

At the top where the bookmark shortcut was located, he saw the pages that he saved before which were the Wizards Spell List DnD 5th Edition, Wizard’s character Rules for Table Top Gaming DnD 5th Edition, and the last one was the most famous shopping website in his old world. The only difference was the strange icon beside the icon for the shopping website and when he clicked it using his mind, it just opened a blank page.

When he clicked the web pages, it was the same as in his old world, even the shopping website. He then remembered one of his favorite anime which was “Campfire Cooking in Another World” and Ezekiel became very excited.

He decided to go back to the home page since he noticed something there that he needed to check out. He planned to explore the sites later to check if would be the same as that anime.

When he went to the home page, the search engine reappeared together with the character panel.

The character panel showed his name and his age, a character description, and some information. According to the character panel, his name was “Boy” and his age was fourteen but there was one thing that was conspicuously present. There was a synchronize button beside his name but he read the character description first.

The character description said that he was an orphan with two siblings ages 4 and 7 who were waiting for him on the village outskirts. His 7-year-old brother was named “Kid” and the younger one was “Chip” and wondered if the children’s parents had problems in their brains naming their children nonsensical names. More than likely, it was tied to some sort of superstition like making sure that children had to have stupid names so as not to be targeted by spirits or something like that.

Their parents were killed by a bear while traversing the woods in search of valuable herbs that they could sell three years ago and this “Boy” was forced to sell their house and now the three children were orphans and “Boy” was forced to go to the woods to search for herbs himself so they could purchase food and they were now living in the village outskirts. According to the character panel, he left his two young brothers alone but had only been gone for five hours which relieved Ezekiel since that was short enough that the two children should be safe.

Ezekiel then clicked on the “Synchronize” button and the name “Boy” disappeared and was replaced with his name “Ezekiel”. A class and level also appeared which was Wizard Level 1 and he remembered that the main reason why he downloaded that browser was he was planning to join his friends in playing DnD as a wizard that weekend that’s why he downloaded the spell list and the rules to refresh his memory about playing the tabletop game before he joined them. He also saved the shopping website because he ordered a dungeon master’s book that was supposed to arrive early morning during his day off.

When he scrolled down, the rules for his profession were written there and it was greatly different from the actual rules of DnD 5th edition and Ezekiel wondered why.

It stated that as a level 1 Wizard, he was entitled to free two cantrips and once he selected those two cantrips, they would appear on the character panel. When he cast his cantrips, he would need one minute before they could cast them again. Also, as a level 1 wizard, he would have three slots for cantrip and one slot for a level 1 spell. Every level up he would earn one slot per level so when he reached level 2, he would have 4 slots for cantrips, two slots for level 1 spells, and 1 slot for level 2 spells. The number of slots could be increased by magical artifacts.

One of the most important differences was there was no stat modifier. His character panel didn’t show any stats like Intelligence, Wisdom, or Hit Points. The cooldown for spells was very different as well. 1 minute for cantrips, 2 minutes for level 1 spells, 3 minutes for level 2 spells, and so on.

It was highly simplified and Ezekiel didn’t know how to feel about it. According to the rules, aside from the two free cantrips, he would need to purchase the spells that he wanted on the website.

When he scrolled down some more, there was more information. The rules for the Shopping website were also included but before he continued reading he directly opened the site for the list of wizard spells since Ezekiel wanted to select his first two cantrips. He could use those spells for his protection.

The first cantrip that he chose was what Ezekiel considered the most powerful cantrip even though its description said that it was a spell that novice wizards use for practice. It was the Prestidigitation spell. The fact that it would allow him to season food, clean a 1 cubic foot of object or area, light a candle or a campfire and more made the cantrip almighty. It might not be powerful in games but in real life, the utility of the spell alone would make it invaluable.

The next spell that he would need to select is something that he could use for offensive purposes. Ezekiel was torn between Fire Bolt and Sword Burst.

At first, he considered Mage Hand since he thought that he could use it as some sort of telekinetic spell for attack and defense like Jean Grey from X-Men but based on the cantrip’s description of not being able to use it for attack and that it could only carry things that was less than ten pounds, the spell was purely a support cantrip.

Fire Bolt had more damage but Sword Burst was an Area of Effect Attack. Upon consideration, Ezekiel decided to choose Fire Bolt since it had a longer range.

He had 3 slots for cantrip and 1 slot for a 1st level spell but decided to hold off on checking them out since he didn’t have any money.

After selecting the cantrips, Ezekiel saw that when he went back to the home page, under his name there were three slots for cantrip and 1 slot for level 1 spell, and 2 of the slots were filled with the icon for Prestidigitation and Fire Bolt. He decided to cast Prestidigitation to clean himself and to check the effect of the spell as well as the cooldown. He was so glad that he didn’t need any spell components to cast his cantrips and spells.

Based on the description, the Prestidigitation area of effect was 1 cubic foot so as not to waste the spell, he removed his clothes to compress it. When he was compressing his clothes he felt something hard on his drawers which was basically the underwear and when he checked it out, the kid had sown a hidden pocket there and it contained three copper coins. He was so happy since Ezekiel had an inkling that he could use the funds to get some food from the Shopping Site.

When Prestidigitation was cast, the slot that contained the spell grayed out, and the clothes turned clean. After a minute, the spell was available again so as an experiment, he cast it on himself targeting the dirt on his hair and the effect was good, his hair was cleaned. Another minute passed and he cast the spell again on his face.

Ezekiel cast the spell again and again once the cooldown finished and after ten casting his body was clean. He wore his clothes and was satisfied with feeling clean then he went back to the character panel to read up on the rules for the shopping site.

Basically, the site functions just like the one in the anime. Once he selected an item that he wanted to purchase, he could enter the coins equal to the price of the item into the slot for coins on the web page, and then after that, the purchased item would appear on the last page that was saved that had the weird icon. The last page was actually his inventory.

Ezekiel then searched for the cheapest bread and the one he found was priced at one copper coin which was a loaf of sliced white bread, the one used for making sandwiches. The cheapest drink was a liter of filtered water which was also priced at one copper coin, so he bought them. He had one copper coin remaining. He decided to save that copper coin as seed money since he would need more coins to buy the things they could use for him and his two siblings to survive.
