Chapter 44 – 8 Heroes

As the aircraft flew up to its maximum speed, Ma Qian was able to summon back uncle frog, however, the winged ape relentlessly followed them, intending to leave no one alive.

“Roarrrr”

The winged ape’s scream awaken the other sleeping wild beasts from multiple levels. Most were supreme dao beast, but a few others were immortal dao beast comparable to the winged ape that alsonstarted to chase after the aircraft.

Vroommm!

The aircraft finally flew out of the fortress, but there were many other wild beasts still following them, especially the winged ape who got closed the distance by a few meters. Just when he was about to throw his trident towards the aircraft, the ground shook immensely. A humongous towering hand cam out from the grounf and reached out high in the sky grabbing all the wild beast, including the winged ape, back inside the fortress.

“Shriieekkkk!” All the beast bellowed in pain unable to defend nor escape from the towering hand. Soon after, the ground no longer shook, everything looked like what it was before. Before the hand completely withdrew back to the underground, an eye opened up staring at the aircraft for a moment until it retreated back to the underground permanently.

Fang Meng jumped out then looked at the scene with sadness in her eyes. Only she could felt the eye was glaring at her as if it was they eyes of her family and friends saying farewell to her. Today, she could finally leave this place after an unknown amount of years, it could’ve been 10,000 years, 50,000 years, 100,000 years, or more, but no one really knows but herself.

“Father, mother, brothers, sisters, Uncles, Aunties, elders, and friends…..when you are reincarnated in your next life, let peace and happiness find your soul,” Fang Meng prayed quietly. Even though, she still looked like a ghost with her transparent figure, everyone could see she was shaking and crying with all her heart. She was alone in the fortress, her anger, sadness, and loneliness have been building up since that chaotic war.

“You are free now. You can search for your own happiness,” Ma Qian said reservedly.

The aircraft wasn’t huge, in fact, it could only carry around 10 people. Inside the aircraft, the vibe was quiet and depressive. It was not only because Fang Meng finally gained her freedom, but they lost pretty much all the valuable monster cores to start this damn aircraft. The tiny aircraft was extremely quick that they’ve reached the cave within half an hour.

Before they went out of the aircraft, Ye Tian told everyone that they should not use this aircraft unless if it was for extreme emergencies. They could not afford on how easily the aircraft was burning their monster cores.

Inside the cave, the team got busy renovating the cave. They didn’t just raid monster cores, armors, weapons, scrolls, and other treasure, they also grabbed luxury items from the residential palaces they explored through, especially from Fang Meng’s mansion. Beds, lanterns, sofas, statues, rugs, and other decorations they fancied were robbed by them. When Fang Meng looked at all the familiar items, she almost went into a rage, but she chose not to throw a tantrum because these items would only stay in dust if they were to stay inside her mansion. Besides, seeing them living in a cave tells her that the boys were living in hard times, adding more conflict just makes it worse.

The cave was filled with shiny statues, jades, and lanterns. Their bed was as comfy and soft as a royal family’s bed. Even though they were dirt poor, they still could find a way to live like kings.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Lin Yang finally asked Fang Meng nicely if she could tell more about her fortress home and the ancient heroes that she previously mentioned. She happily obliged while the whole team surrounded her like a bunch of kids ready for a fairy tale story.

“The whole fortress consist of our Han civilization that dated back as far as 1,000,000 years ago. Our founders built the fortress because we were always in war with one of the ancient Jin empire at that time. Although hundreds of millions of people lived underground, we were a a strong and prosperous civilization known throughout different parts of the world. Everyone was welcome to enter and do business except the people that came from the Jin empire. In the beginning we started fighting each other for thousands of years, but eventually we signed a peace treaty.”

“However…….400,000 years later, they broke the treaty and invaded us along with three other kingdoms to help them. We lost the war, but the Jin empire and the other kingdoms no longer exist. At least that’s what I assumed because we killed all their strongest warriors, including their reserved ancestors, patriarchs, matriarchs, and the rest of the elders. They thought our fortress was just a huge unmovable fortress stuck underground, but, our ancestors, before they died, activated the fortress’s true form. Our fortress was actually a giant humanoid, who woke up and crushed all our remaining enemies, none escaped, some were stuck inside the fortress until they died from old age or severe injuries.”

“That war was the first time our civilization saw our giant humanoid awaken and moved. The second time……was just now when the hand reached out and crushed the wild beasts that were chasing us.”

Fang Meng sighed considerably. Telling a sad story that involved the destruction of her home and death of her family and friends was a very hard thing to do. The recollections of her memory caused her to burst in tears again.

Ma Qian gave her a handkerchief, but when Fang Meng saw it, she almost took out a small dagger to stab him but did not in the end. This handkerchief was actually a small undergarment that she used to wear, and now , Ma Qian had taken it! Ma Qian wouldn’t possibly imagine that this was an undergarment, after all, the people back then had different ways of wearing their clothes. He was innocent and he only tried to help Fang Meng relieve her sorrow in any way he can.

“Which concludes to the legendary ancient heroes. A legend said this giant humanoid was actually given to guard our race by one of the ancient heroes as a reward for helping them fight the ancient war. We can’t prove this, but only the ancestors knew about it but they have always kept quiet about it.”

“During the ancient war against the demons, 8 heroes appeared out of nowhere. They were far stronger than the others. Some people said they have the strongest bloodline, some said they were the heaven’s children, but either way, no one dared to question their commands.  Among the 8 heroes, there was an unspoken leader, no one knew his name but we called him “War God.” The way he could dominate and kill the demons, along with his destructive ability created fear among every race. Legend has it during the war, he completely annihilated ancient kingdoms and races leaving nothing alive. He is the only one that can control and possess this heaven-defying ability, which some people say could even slay the gods! There were rumors that even though he was insanely powerful, his tactics were also shameless. He would even fool his own side to get what he wants. But I certainly don’t believe this.”

“The other 7 heroes were called the 7 saint generals. Besides the war god, they were the strongest. Each general had rare abilities that could wipe out divisions of the demon army. During one of the battles, they infiltrated the demon territory and wiped out most of the traitorous human clans  during the war. It’s a shame, a few got away due to the overwhelming demon army surrounding the generals. After the victorious war, they disappeared without any trace. They were very secretive people, no one knew which family clan or place they came from, but everyone knew they did not come from any of the powerful family clans.”

Fang Meng’s eyes were shining brightly while telling this legendary tale as if she wanted to find out who those ancient heroes really were, and if their blood lineage still lived on until today. Her new freedom gave her a sense of a new goal….she wanted to explor ethe traces of those ancient heroes along with finding more informartion about the ancient war, and she believed that only she had the extensive knowledge to solve this ancient mystery that has fooled the entire world for over a million years!
