Chapter 51

Outside the room, Dylan placed his hand on his chest, trying to listen as the two continued talking.

"Why did you explain all of this to me?" The doctor, arms crossed, questioned. "Are you trying to recruit me or something?"

"No, I want to know whose side you're on and what you know. I've had too many job offers for too little time, and I honestly just want my questions answered so I can leave." Oliver spoke, keeping his eyes on the vampire who continued to smile. "Again, I ask my question: who are you, and whose side are you on?"

"Why not tell me what happened? I can explain. These wounds don't seem like they're from a fall or a mountain lion, right?"

"And reveal my information? No, thanks. With just you talking, it's safer for me. You've probably realized that you're the one backed into a corner, not me." Oliver clenched his fist slightly. "Know your place."

"I could say the same to you."

The door quickly slammed, and Oliver turned to see Dylan and Zoe leaping toward him with open mouths and claws bared.

The doctor smiled, tearing the bandage off the notebook as the two advanced.

However, Oliver, who had spent all that time leaning near the backpack, reached for the zipper that was already open and pulled out the cape that covered the doctor.

In an instant, Oliver's eyes gleamed as he put on the cape. From his calves, he took out two arrows and, with a quick spin, used one to pierce the doctor's hand and the notebook, completing a turn as he faced the two vampires.

Oliver could clearly see their confused expressions, and he advanced toward them.

Swiftly, Oliver punched Dylan in the jaw, dislocating his jaw, and he was thrown towards the hospital bed, landing unconscious.

Zoe tried to grab Oliver, but the vigilante dodged, passing by the female vampire and delivering a light blow to her neck, rendering her unconscious.

Everything happened in the blink of an eye while the cape was still descending, and Oliver saw the doctor with her hand pinned to the notebook by the arrow, starting to sweat with a pained expression.

Oliver cracked his neck as he walked towards the doctor, who grunted with a surprised and painful expression, asking, "What is this arrow?"

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Oliver looked at his arrow, with a thicker handle, and showed the other one, similarly but with a sharp blade-like tip. "It's not meant for shooting but for pinning your hand. It will work, especially attached to this table and this notebook. With an object piercing you like that, you won't be able to transform. I learned this from Nolan." With the other arrow spinning in his hand, Oliver put the quiver on his back and approached the table. "I didn't tell any of them this to avoid any mind-reading ability or forced confessions. That's why I also executed another plan."

The doctor quickly widened her eyes, holding her breath, and suddenly her arm became stronger, veins popping in her hand. Oliver continued to stare in silence until the vampire grabbed the arrow and broke it, freeing her hand from the object and turning to transform.

However, as she looked out the window, it was closed, and a shadow stared from outside, transforming into a bat and flying away.

She quickly turned her gaze to the door, but Oliver pushed it with his leg, making it slam shut and locking them both inside again.

"What was all that?"

"What? I know relic users have at least three abilities. I just trusted that you didn't have only one, or at least it wasn't that simple." Oliver pointed to the window and said, "I asked Wander to stay a few meters away and keep an eye on things. That's the advantage of your heightened senses; he noticed when something went wrong."

Oliver smiled, remembering when they were in the subway, the moment they were about to part ways. He had handed Wander a crumpled letter with the message: "Observe from afar and close the window when the time comes."

The vampire continued to listen with a furrowed forehead, her eye glowing red. But Oliver jumped on the table, destroying the remaining notebook, and said, "You heard Nolan's name and showed signs. It didn't seem like you were surprised that both survived the accident. You tried to disguise it, but I think you also know what you got yourself into." Oliver gave a slight smile and continued, "You're afraid of that soldier, and you know you messed up, but I don't think you would hurt Nolan, taking so many risks. So, there's a rule in your power that you don't have absolute control over."

As he finished the sentence, Oliver jumped off the table and stood near the doctor, crossing his arms, saying, "We've attracted enough attention, but I don't think anyone will come here yet. It's your chance to keep your disguise without getting a beating from me, so cooperate."

But as he finished speaking, the vampire lunged forward while Oliver maintained a serious gaze.

The blow aimed to grab him, but once again, Oliver dodged, swiftly moving to the side of the vampire, whose eyes widened until a crack was heard, and her face was forcefully turned to the side by a slap.

She hadn't been thrown, just struck, and Oliver continued to gaze at her with seriousness by her side.

'How fast.' The vampire continued to stare at the wall to which her face had been turned, then clenched her fist, thinking, 'I have to—'

"This is the difference between a relic user and a cheap imitation." He saw the vampire turn enraged, raising her hand, but Oliver quickly grabbed her other arm, saying, "And he doesn't know you, so you're not a big deal."

Oliver violently pulled the vampire's arm toward him, delivering a direct punch to her face that threw her head back. But again, Oliver pulled her, keeping her on her feet as she groaned in pain.

"I didn't destroy your office to avoid making noise, but I know how to cause pain without breaking any objects." Oliver pulled her, and she went toward the ground, but before she fell, he held her until she descended gently while Oliver sat on her back, pulling her arm close to him, saying, "If you scream, I'll break your arm. If you try to control them again, I'll knock them out again, and then it'll be much worse."

Soon, he positioned the sharp arrow next to the vampire's neck, saying, "I won't kill you, but if you're willing to go all the way, I'm also willing to go far for the information I want." He drove the arrow beside the vampire's face, saying, "If you want to continue this disguise, I have my conditions, and you'll follow each one of them. Now that I know how to find you, it's good not to test my patience."

Oliver continued to stare with his glowing eyes while the vampire remained motionless and terrified, only moving her head slightly as she trembled.

"I-I didn't want to become your enemy; the plan was just to lure you and make a proposal."

"I've said I'm tired of proposals. I don't want to be under anyone's flag."

"B-But that's why I went after you. Trust me, I don't wish you harm; I'm your ally..."

She tried to turn her face slightly to the side, forcing a smile while her face was still bruised from the blow, and she sweated, feeling pain where she had been hit.

However, Oliver continued to stare with the glowing eyes, saying, "I don't intend to ally with someone who uses others to get to me, especially by attacking me."

"They told me that if I didn't attack you, you wouldn't come."

"They who?"

Oliver applied a bit more force, and the doctor groaned in pain, forcing her face against the floor, saying, "The Camarilla."

"Camarilla?"

Oliver heard a heavy step approaching and quickly turned his face to the exit, where he saw someone huge blocking the glass of the door.

"It's as she said."

Instantly, he frowned and squinted, knowing he had felt that presence before. The door began to open, revealing Christopher's face, still serious and dressed in the same clothes as before.

Upon seeing the vampire, the doctor widened her eyes in terror and tried to free herself, forcing herself to escape from Oliver's arm lock. Seeing the state of the doctor, the vigilante clicked his tongue and got off her, grabbing his backpack and slinging the bow across his body as he faced Christopher.

"So, the Camarilla sent all these jerks after me?" Oliver cracked his neck and put his arrow back in the quiver while the vampire stood with her back against the wall, trying to distance herself as much as possible from Christopher. "Are you in this little group that wants to drag me into this mess you created yourselves?"

"I have no interest in you, but your deduction and investigation skills make you a formidable enemy. Besides, they want something that's with you." Oliver frowned, and Christopher continued, "I'm going to kill this woman, and I'm taking you with me."

"And if I refuse?"

"You'll end up much more hurt than last time, kid."
