Still inside the house, Oliver continued, 'Ambushing her on her way home can be dangerous, especially when we don't know if she has the ability to detect you since vampires are also known for their heightened senses and keen sense of smell.' Then he crossed his arms and continued, 'Besides, she can escape like a bat, and if she separates us, we'll practically be declaring our own death.'
'So you want to go to this doctor's office mainly to ensure she doesn't escape? But if you engage in a fight inside there, it will surely attract attention, won't it?' Zoe spoke. 'You'll be the last to enter there according to your plan, and it will be easy to identify you. If people see the vigilante inside with the doctor...'
'That's why I said I wanted the two of you,' Oliver concluded with a smile. 'I want you to prevent anyone from entering there. If I go there with my real name, I imagine there will be corridors before we reach her office. I want you to close the door and do whatever it takes to prevent anyone from entering.'
The vampires looked slightly surprised, while the duo narrowed their eyes, suspicious of whether it would work. But in the end, they had no better plan and nodded.
'I still want to come up with an alternative plan if possible. If we come up with something, we'll be flying around here to try to get her attention.'
'It's a plan I thought of in a few minutes; obviously, it has its loopholes.' Oliver raised his arms with a somewhat awkward smile but continued, 'If you come up with an alternative idea, it's much better. After all, you've been there. If you know the layout, it will make things much easier for me, and if possible, draw the layout for me to have a better idea.'
Upon hearing this, the duo agreed, while Wander continued with his head down, seeming distant.
'I know you want to help, but in the end, this is what you can do for now.' Oliver uncrossed his arms and turned the doorknob. 'If you want to give your best, come up with a foolproof plan that not even I can find fault with.'
Oliver smiled slightly, and upon hearing that, Wander sighed with a smile and nodded, looking a bit more at ease.
Again, Oliver pulled the doorknob, but Zoe ran to him and opened the door, making Oliver raise his eyebrows but then nod.
'Thank you.'
'You're welcome.'
The female vampire spoke with a smile, and Oliver left with his backpack, descending the stairs with a puzzled look while she waved with a smile and closed the door.
Back at home, Oliver put his hands in his pockets as he walked to the alley to change his clothes.
'Now things make a bit more sense.'
Oliver entered the alley and changed his clothes for the vigilante's cloak, wearing the black attire under the hood and continued.
'At first, I thought Nolan could be a soldier of another vampire since he could speak, and Wander couldn't, but in the end, we talked calmly, and there were no issues.'
Once he was dressed, Oliver used the trash bins to climb and support himself, jumping between the walls to finally reach the rooftops, starting his path of leaps while he continued to ponder.
'If the doctor sent Nolan to test my powers and then the trio of vampires to lure me, it makes a bit more sense.'
Oliver calmed his expression and sighed in relief.
'I'm glad I don't have to deal with so many powerful opponents all of a sudden, although I will have to fight a very dangerous one in four days...'
Oliver continued to leap, realizing that it was late at night, and street activity had practically ceased.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
'I thought there might be an organization similar to that silver-haired woman who wanted to take the relic from me. Initially, I thought those shooters in the car were another relic user who disappeared, but could the people in that car have been vampires?'
Oliver frowned and tried to remember the day of the fight.
'I didn't know about vampires then, so I didn't check for fangs, but they were really strong, which leads me to conclude, were the swordsmen also vampires? Is there a whole group of vampires after me now?'
After a few minutes of leaping, Oliver finally reached the roof of his building, where he changed his clothes again.
'I have to do some more research; I need to focus on recovery and the fight against the doctor. After all, if she spent all this time feeding and is as intelligent as she seems, she cannot be underestimated.'
After changing his clothes, Oliver headed for the stairs and concluded, 'In any case, with this vampire, I can gather more information, maybe get to other relic users, and ultimately get the answers that I want.'
Oliver descended the stairs calmly and walked through the hallways of the building where he lived. It was quiet, as usual. After descending one floor, he walked to the door that led to his room, taking a long, tired sigh, still getting used to the persistent pain in his bandages.
However, as he reached his door, Oliver frowned and lowered his eyebrows, noticing a subtle difference that made him see a thin sliver of light through the corner of the door.
'Is it open?'
Oliver pulled his hand away and realized that something was wrong. He heard a voice from inside his room.
"Come in already, don't you want anyone to see you, do you?"
Oliver widened his eyes and took a step back upon hearing a deep voice inside. He quickly grabbed his bow and drew an arrow from his backpack, using his knee to push the door slightly ajar, revealing the inside of his room.
His surprise grew when he saw an adult man, just over 30 years old, sitting on his bed and leaning against the headboard. The man had a strong, muscular body, wearing a black military camouflage shirt, green pants, and boots. His blonde hair reached his neck, but what stood out the most was his serious gaze with scarlet pupils, leaving Oliver certain that he was facing a vampire.
Oliver clenched his teeth with the arrow aimed at the intruder, but the vampire slowly stood up and asked, "You're the guy they sent Nolan to fetch, aren't you?"
"If I am, who the hell are you?" Before he could finish his sentence, Oliver saw the vampire move at high speed, grabbing his face with such violence that it forced his body down. Oliver widened his eyes and fired the arrow, which struck the vampire's shoulder, making him clench his teeth as he tightened his grip on Oliver's head.
The vampire's strength was unlike anything he had seen before, and Oliver could only widen his eyes as the vampire spun him around and tossed his body toward the window. Oliver again widened his eyes as he raised his arms to protect himself from the impact and passed through the window.
The shrill sound of breaking glass filled the air, and some shards cut Oliver's arm as he fell from the fourth floor toward the ground. He grunted in pain but quickly reached into his backpack while opening his cape, which he wore just in time.
However, before he could land, Oliver heard a shadow moving quickly, and when he looked to the side, the vampire had jumped with him and once again reached for Oliver's face, grabbing it violently. Oliver widened his eyes and had his face grabbed once more.
The vampire began to tighten his grip, but Oliver quickly pulled one of his arrows and drove the pointed end into the space between the vampire's bicep and forearm, piercing the flesh easily and making the vampire look at the wound. While still in the air, Oliver grabbed the vampire's arm, using it as support to raise both legs and then stomped, pushing the vampire away and sending him tumbling backward.
In an instant, both of them landed on the ground. The vampire landed on his feet, while Oliver fell to the ground, rolling to cushion the impact. Once he stopped rolling, Oliver knelt on the ground, clutching his bow, completely breathless and covered in sweat, while he saw his opponent already standing in front of him.
It was the first time Oliver had felt such a huge gap in strength, and he gritted his teeth, watching the vampire approach him while Oliver was still trying to get up and thinking, 'Who the hell is this guy? Why is he so strong? Is he one of the main vampires? Why does he look so familiar?'
Oliver stood up and already nocked an arrow, aiming it at the vampire with his bright green eyes and gritted teeth, feeling the pain throughout his body.
But as he saw the arrow, the vampire sighed and said, "So this is the guy who killed my brother?" His words made Oliver widen his eyes as he slowly noticed a striking resemblance that reminded him of the face of a vampire, and the blonde man lowered one arm to his side and raised the other for defense. "Alright."
His arm transformed, and Oliver could see what looked like muscle fibers overlapping the skin. Claws grew from his nails, and the shirt became tighter, with some parts giving in and tearing. This made Oliver wonder with astonishment, 'Can he get even stronger?'
The vampire then turned his red eyes back to his opponent, staring at Oliver with a red gleam and saying, "When you get to hell, apologize to my brother."
