Chapter 23

Walking down the college street, Oliver was wearing a slightly looser shirt while carrying his backpack over his shoulder.

He walked with a slightly pained expression as he thought.

‘It was a few days ago, since then I have gotten used to wearing looser clothes. At least the bruises on my arms healed quickly, so I don't have to wear just long sleeves or a coat.'

Oliver placed his hand close to his rib and grunted slightly as he felt the pain bother him.

'Arranging personalized medical treatment with the salary and expenses I have is impossible, I don't know if I did the right thing by self-medicating, but since then the pain has at least lessened...' Entering college, he would soon go to the cafeteria and He would sit at the table feeling a slight discomfort in his side when he sat down, but then he would put the notebook out and leave it under the table while he thought. ‘I think it’s okay for now, even if it’s a pain in the ass to hide it.’

When he looked around, Oliver noticed that given the time of day, the cafeteria seemed a little busier.

Most of the students seemed distracted as they chatted calmly, making Oliver look at the screen of his notebook while trying hard to keep his fist pressed against his cheek with a slight, still somewhat painful smile.

‘I don’t think they would notice anyway, in the end, being terrible at making new friends got me some bonus… but why do I feel pathetic for celebrating that?’

With a long sigh he dedicated a few more minutes of his morning to watching the college entrance waiting for the blonde vampire to return, however, like the previous days, it was completely in vain and the bell rang.

His routine continued smoothly, the class ended and he headed towards the television station.

He walked with his hands in his pockets and from afar he could see the television station, however, he could also see the street where he had fought a few days ago.

Remembering earlier, he touched his side and felt that the damage to his ribs still persisted, but he noticed greater regeneration, since the treatment was supposed to last a good few weeks, but after just a few days of taking medication, he already noticed a easier to move.

During this entire period, to hide the bruises from the fight, both at college and at the station, he had decided to wear lighter clothes, taking a break from his activities and reducing his habit of arriving early just to look for the blonde.

In that entire period, the blonde hadn't entered college and was only going to go to college for two weeks, leaving Oliver to think that he had just given up on going to college or something worse had happened.

When he remembered the hooded man on top of the building, he frowned again as he rambled.

‘Even though nothing has happened since then, that night I was being watched again. Was it the same person? Was that the master vampire? Since those three came, I haven't been attacked anymore. But from one they went to three. I wonder how many of them still exist and when they intend to attack me again.’

Arriving at the station entrance he was still frowning, but just thinking about hypotheses wouldn't help and so he entered the building.

His work environment had also returned to normal, even though the activity that day was greater, it was still not possible to notice a big difference similar to the case of the green guard.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

Oliver just walked calmly to his desk and when he arrived he turned on the computer so he could see the news.

'Knowing that those three didn't see the guy on top of the building is hard to believe, so I imagine they're not allies. If it was the master vampire, they would probably fly to him... and there's that fog.'

All the events of that night generated a feeling of strangeness in Oliver, in the same way they had appeared, both the fog and the hooded man had disappeared without leaving a trace that he could follow.

However, even if he wanted to, at that moment he was not in a position to fight, being injured against a relic bearer would certainly only bring disadvantage, but the lack of information still bothered him.

His thoughts flowed quickly thinking about the possibilities, but soon the screen lit up revealing the browser that Oliver used to find the information he wanted.

As was standard, he noticed some information and reports about crimes nearby.

Most of them were reports of theft or even assaults that didn't catch his attention, in the end they were just reports that should be forwarded to another sector and he did so while putting his fist on his chin thinking.

'It's been a while since I found new information, there's still no news about vampires... even less than...'

But shortly after reading about information, he would soon notice one that caught his attention and made him remove his fist from his cheek, squinting his eyes and frowning while he saw an article from a branch.

He saw the image of a censored man's face, showing the crime scene and the main story.

‘Man is found with a gunshot to the chest, the victim has no resistance marks, just a single gunshot to the chest which was the cause of death...’

Again from the description, Oliver found something in the news that caught his attention while he was thinking.

‘This stuff again? No... it's recent.'

Looking for more information, he saw that the date was a short time ago and the details of the reports showed information that made him frown.

‘It was here in town and it was this week.’ Oliver finally understood why the news about the gunman had stopped and then he thought. ‘The gunman was a good distance from this city, why did he come here? Or rather, when did he come?’

Oliver opened more tabs on the company's browser and typed quickly looking for more information, combining the reports he had previously found along with the one he had found at that moment.

However, as he searched, more information appeared and the bodies of different individuals were found, having the same death from the bullet in the chest, but still without a clear pattern.

They were all from a few days ago and from different parts of the city, making Oliver stare at the computer screen while he thought.

‘Victims killed with a single shot to the chest.’

‘Assassin who uses a firearm kills by hitting the heart.’

‘Suspect not yet identified.’

All that information seemed cliché because it had been found previously, however, unlike before, the gunman was much closer than before.

'Was I so focused on vampires that I missed this information? Even the first one was from a short time ago, I couldn't find any more information about them after the blonde's attack... I can't know exactly when he arrived.'

Oliver bit the tip of his finger thoughtfully as he listed everything that had happened.

He was trying to remember something that caught his attention in the last few days, from the time he felt he was being watched until the night a few days ago.

Too many suspicious people had appeared, he didn't even know who sent the letter that day, whether it was the blonde or someone else.

He still didn't know anything about the master vampire, didn't even know if he was in town since the animal cases were all over the world.

Even the fog that had made the vampires retreat generated a certain question in his mind, however, soon a light came to his head and made him squint between his eyes.

‘The hooded man who watched me from the buildings... if he is the master vampire or even the gunman, there is no way of knowing, a pistol is easy to hide in the clothes he was wearing.’

Turning his eyes to the computer screen he thought.

‘It may not be him, even if there is no clear pattern between the victims, they were still too similar deaths to ignore the possibility.’

With everything that was going on, the possibility of up to four relic users and without discovering anyone's identity, Oliver concluded as he pursed his lips.

‘It’s too close in time, that’s terrible...’
