Chapter 31

Inside the house that Oliver had observed, it was possible to see the black-haired vampire leaning on his two companions who were carrying him.

"No need for all of this, Zoe, Dylan," his tone was clearly frustrated as he forced a smile. "I just need to eat a bit more; I think I was the one who took the most beating out there."

"Let's figure something out, Wander," the brown-haired guy helping the vampire sit in a simple armchair facing a TV. "Stay here for a while, we'll be back with supplies."

As they finished, the blue-haired vampire put both hands into a hoodie with a concerned look, and Wander soon smiled. "I'm sorry."

"Instead of apologizing, be grateful. We'll come back with something good for dinner," Zoe concluded as she approached the door, followed by Dylan, who also smiled, surveyed the surroundings, and then locked the door.

The two descended iron stairs and distanced themselves from the small space they had rented for the three, while Wander continued to stare at his reflection in the TV.

His body was thin, and his expression clearly more tired. Finally, he sighed and turned on the TV while grumbling, "It's so cold..."

"Yeah, I should have brought a coat," he said.

In an instant, the place seemed to be filled with a presence, and Wander quickly jumped off the couch with wide eyes, but soon heard, "You better not try, pal. In your state, those arrows will end your life."

He slowly turned his head and saw a pair of arrows pointed in his direction, emitting a faint green glow, while the window that wasn't open before now had Oliver, dressed in his green cloak with bright eyes, and a slight smile on his face.

The vampire took a step back, trying to retreat while still frightened, and asked, "What do you want?"

"You can't fight me, can you?" Oliver jumped into the house, still with the bow and arrows pointed, taking the same step Wander had used to retreat, but this time forward. "You're weak, and you know that if you fight, you'll die."

Wander could only swallow hard, knowing he was surrendering, feeling an even greater pressure emanating from the archer, much stronger than when they had faced each other before.

Wander widened his eyes as he saw Oliver slowly lower his bow and collect his arrows, storing them in his quiver while the vampire looked confused and still apprehensive.

"You're not as bad as you think, but you're so weak that I know I can finish you off even in hand-to-hand combat," Oliver said with a faint smile, removing his hood. Wander saw the same face but with slight bandages, and Oliver continued with a smile on his face. "I came to talk. Once you answer my questions, I'll leave. I don't want to kill you, and I don't want you to die. Is that clear?"

Wander directed a frustrated look again, and Oliver narrowed his eyes in thought.

"Bingo."

Oliver scaled the couch, stepping on the armchairs, and finally sat at the head with a smile on his face, extending his hand as if inviting Wander. "May I sit? I don't like talking to someone who might try to escape at any moment."

Even with that almost threatening tone, Wander sighed and slid down the wall, sitting on the floor. "What a crappy situation... I can't answer everything you ask. I'm not even sure if it's safe to do so."

"I know, so I'll be quick. After what happens here, if they don't come looking for me again, I'll forget about your existence," he said, crossing his arms. "You went to buy meat, but I think they'll bring the animal almost alive thanks to all the blood."

"There's nothing we can do. I guess you've figured out why."

Oliver raised his eyebrows slightly and leaned forward, showing a smile as he said, "It wasn't hard. Most vampire legends are in fiction. I spent some time reading books and came to some conclusions." His smile then faded to a serious expression. "But I didn't know that the vampire who turned you had so much power to dictate when you'll die."

Wander hung his head, not knowing what to say, and Oliver continued, "I remember what you said at the beginning." With a faint smile, Oliver asked, "Is there information you can't share about the guy who turned you, but is it because of friendship?"

Oliver questioned and continued to gaze at Wander, who remained concerned and swallowed hard. Oliver then continued his monologue.

"I don't think so. You arrived this year, and you're not so social, from what I've seen in my recordings. Apparently, your friends are those two, and since they are as strong as you, I can assume they were transformed at the same time, right?"

"Yes... they got into this because of me," Oliver raised his eyebrows slightly, and Wander sighed as he continued, "I don't know if I can provide more information about that or why we attacked you, but it's as you said."

With that response, Oliver continued to stare in silence while thinking.

"He can't talk about the master vampire, but he can still answer me when it's not directly related to him... maybe I can ask a better question... but it's risky..."

In the end, Oliver continued to gaze in silence while Wander was clearly uncomfortable and coughed lightly in his hand, then raised his head to see the vigilante sitting on his couch.

But it didn't take long, and after sighing, Oliver asked, "Wander, were you forced to kill me to become a vampire?"

Upon hearing the expression of the vampire, it quickly became fearful, and Oliver smiled, confirming his theory, until the door slowly opened behind Oliver and Wander, revealing Dylan opening the door, carrying a bloodstained bag. He froze as he stared at the vigilante on his couch.

Oliver showed a warm smile while waving in greeting, and Dylan's surprised expression quickly turned to anger as he advanced. "YOU'RE BACK, ASSHOLE."

"Of course I am."

Oliver leaped toward the window, evading the vampire's advance, who struck the couch. Zoe entered the house hastily but soon spotted the vigilante at the window and lunged forward again.

Once again, Oliver evaded and leaned against the window frame, smiling. "Thanks for the chat, Wander." He leaped backward and added, "Goodnight."

Oliver landed on the ground and began to run down the street with brisk steps, listening to his surroundings as he sought a route with fewer sounds of people and then started leaping over rooftops, distancing himself with a slight smile on his face as he thought, "But I don't think this is over."

After a few minutes of running on rooftops, Oliver stopped on the roof of a building, where he saw small stones and crushed them in his hands, storing them in his pocket while listening to approaching fast and loud footsteps.

"And here they come."

As he concluded, Oliver turned quickly and blocked a charge from the brown-haired vampire with the same red eyes as Nolan.

Without wasting time, Oliver turned and threw the vampire toward a wall, but he managed to drag his feet on the ground while grunting and stared at Oliver, who continued to smile. However, he soon adopted a serious expression and asked.

"You're not as weak as he is because the master vampire only punished Wander?"

"What do you know, you idiot?"

"Don't answer a question with another, you fool."

Above his head, he heard the blue-haired vampire trying to kick him in the head, but Oliver jumped back, avoiding the attack. The vampire hit the ground, causing a significant impact, but quickly turned to try to strike Oliver again.

However, she was surprised when Oliver slapped her eyes, causing dust to rise, and she shouted, "What have you done-"

Before she could complete her sentence, Oliver kicked Zoe in the stomach, bending her and hurling her toward her ally.

"Shut up, noisy one."

Dylan widened his eyes as he saw his partner losing her vision and opened his arms to soften her fall.

With the force of the blow, the two were dragged, and Zoe groaned in Dylan's arms.

As soon as their feet stopped dragging, Zoe screamed and opened her eyes completely red and still teary, while Dylan prepared to advance.

But in front of both of them, there was no one there anymore, and Oliver's presence had vanished. They couldn't see anything in front of them.

"Damn, that jerk attacked Wander."

"Never mind, let's go back before he does something to him while we're gone."

Zoe moved away from Dylan and tried to wipe her still-teary eyes, pieces of stone coming off, and immediately, the two vampires turned into bats and, with a quick flap of their wings, headed toward the house, distancing themselves from the building. Meanwhile, Oliver remained invisible in the position after the kick.

In the end, he collapsed and groaned with a smile after staying in that position and then knelt down, still frustrated.

"I miss fighting just with criminals."

In the end, fighting with restraint was much more tiring than fighting with full force. After a few minutes, the vampires arrived back at home, where they were greeted by Wander, who was waiting with the window open.

The trio reunited, and the two who had fought embraced the vampire, who reciprocated. Meanwhile, still far away, Oliver watched with a smile as he raised his head and thought to himself.

"Vampire hypnosis, I've seen it in some books, but I didn't know it could kill..."

He lowered his head and returned to the two. "There's no need to give each of them different orders; probably only Wander was sent to kill me, and they went along. I could get more answers, but this saga with the vampires has to end."

In the end, Oliver turned away from the house and continued running.

"I don't want end up killing them, but even with limited information, I'll do it my way."
