Soon the day arrived, and the trio headed to the hospital by subway.
The entire journey took a few minutes, but after a bus ride and a few more minutes of walking, they soon found themselves at the location.
The doors were glass and showed the interior with only a few people sitting in the chairs while two guards talked.
Dylan sighed as memories flooded back, and Zoe lowered her head slightly while Oliver stared at the place with a furrowed brow and lowered eyebrows.
"It's not the hospital I imagined."
The place had a single floor and seemed wide enough to have only the entrance leading to the waiting rooms and then the offices; it seemed like a straightforward place, and the area also appeared to be lower class.
"But it was in the drawing."
"I know, just not what I expected."
"Hey, it's not like a few orphans with some work experience could easily hire a quality medical system, you know? Besides, we paid for the consultation, make it worthwhile."
Dylan passed by Oliver, who sighed while Zoe put both hands inside her coat, seeming to feel cold, but then looking at Oliver, waiting for a response.
The vigilante just adjusted his backpack and sighed, slightly lifting his legs while cracking his neck and saying, "You can stay here, and don't worry, I'll pay you later."
He climbed the stairs leading to the location and opened the door; soon, the cold breeze from the air conditioning blew, and in the end, he went to one of the chairs, sitting with the backpack on his lap, getting comfortable and waiting to be called.
In the end, some time passed until Oliver was called, and as he stood up, the vampires outside noticed and entered the room, going with Oliver to the door leading to the corridor.
The three entered, and as described, Oliver saw a long corridor with white walls with a claustrophobic space that allowed at most two people to walk side by side, and in the end, he saw a lit light that caught his attention.
Zoe stood near the corridor door, leaning against the wall while watching the other two go near the doctor's office.
Oliver peeked through the gap and saw a woman maintaining a serious look while writing something with a pen.
Dylan leaned near the door and crossed his arms, still attentive, while Oliver entered, seeing a simple office where he could notice a hospital bed and in the corner some wheelchairs stored.
As he entered and surveyed the surroundings with his eyes, he soon saw the desk where a woman was.
She wore a coat, and underneath a red long-sleeved shirt; her hair was red, and her skin was pale, contrasting with her blue eyes and a smile on her face as she looked at the guy.
'Blue, isn't it?'
"Hello, good evening... Oliver, right?"
"Yes, good evening."
Oliver looked around as the doctor gave a slight smile but soon returned to typing on her notebook while saying, "So, Mr. Oliver. You said you got injured in an accident, right?" After speaking, she stood up, removing her glasses and placing them on the table while crossing her fingers in front of the counter. "How did it happen?"
"I walk a lot, and in one of these explorations, I was attacked by a mountain lion; in the escape, I fell and ended up getting quite hurt." Oliver raised the sleeve of his shirt and showed one of the claw marks made by Christopher, catching the doctor's attention as she stood up while Oliver continued. "After all the chaos, I asked them to wash the wounds with water and alcohol to prevent infection, so it was quite recent."
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"If you feel comfortable, please take off your shirt so I can see your injuries."
She went to Oliver, who took off his backpack, still looking around while placing the object under his leg with the zipper slightly open.
'It's the same model as my notebook.'
He quickly took off his shirt and let it rest on his lap while standing up and turning to the doctor, who walked around him, seeing the various bandages decorating his body.
When she removed them slightly, she could see the claw marks and gunshot wounds that still seemed recent; there were 6 large bandages distributed over his forearms, torso, and shoulder.
She assessed with a concerned look and went to Oliver's back as he moved his eyes quickly while slowly opening a smile thinking.
'Great.'
Soon, his thought was interrupted by a light touch on his skin, making him grunt, and when he realized, the doctor stepped back.
"Sorry." She walked to her chair and sat back, typing rapidly on her computer keyboard while saying, "You have a good physique, Oliver. You said you fell, right? I think washing the wounds with alcohol and your good shape might have been what saved your life, but it's strange that some wounds still seem quite recent. Do you want something for the pain before the examination?"
She questioned and stopped typing when she saw Oliver finishing putting on his shirt slowly while seeming distracted.
"Oliver?"
"Ah, yes. I would like that."
"Well, I'll prescribe some pain medication, and you can pick it up at a pharmacy, but you seem distracted, is everything okay?"
In the end, Oliver sat down, giving a slight smile as he leaned forward while sitting, saying, "I'm fine, I mean... me and a friend surviving this attack is almost a miracle, I think I'm okay."
"Indeed... but you didn't tell me about this friend. Is he okay?"
"Ah, Nolan?" When he heard that, the doctor turned to Oliver, looking interested, and soon the vigilante smiled again, saying, "He was fine, but I think he wasn't as lucky. I wanted to bring him here, but the consultation is quite expensive..."
The doctor was slightly distracted and smiled again, saying, "Ah, hospital treatment is quite expensive..." She sighed. "It's a pity we can't treat everyone..."
"But did you have to kill him?"
Oliver returned to seriousness at the end of the sentence, and the doctor also lost her smile, maintaining a slightly more serious tone as she stared at the guy and said, "What did you say?"
"Just because he didn't bring my head to you? Or was it because he couldn't be defeated?"
The doctor remained silent with a serious look, but soon she displayed a tranquil smile while closing her eyes, intertwining her fingers in front of the table, saying, "I think you suffered some head damage during the fall, so I'll ignore that, okay?" She opened her blue eyes again, returning to her standard smile while typing rapidly on her notebook. "But why do you think I killed him?"
"There are no cameras here, doctor. From your reaction, it seems like you were really expecting me, but there are no cameras here. Don't you want our identities as celebrities in the hands of the hospital's administration? You want the images just for yourself, don't you?"
She continued to stare with a smile, but when she looked at the computer screen, her calm expression faded, and seriousness returned.
"Is the camera app not working?"
As she looked back at Oliver, she noticed one of the claw marks on his arms exposed and bleeding slightly while the guy continued to smile.
She looked back at Oliver while slowly bringing a smile to her face, leaving them staring at each other as she gradually lowered the screen of her notebook, seeing a still dirty bandage in front of the camera.
"It was when I closed my eyes, wasn't it?" She blinked, and her eyes turned to a strong red hue, making Oliver give a slight smile while she continued. "But I didn't expect Nolan to have caused you so much harm; I was going to talk to him for sure, but it's a pity it had to end like this."
Slowly, she reached her hand towards the bandage, but Oliver interrupted, saying, "Take that off, and I'll destroy this crap along with your hand. We're still just talking, so how about a little courtesy?"
"Well-mannered of you..."
"I am a gentleman, so let's talk a bit."
In the end, she maintained her smile while distancing herself from the notebook, leaning against the chair and sighing while staring at Oliver.
"I expected to find you, but I confess it wasn't like this." She crossed her arms and continued to stare, smiling. "Are you taking on the pains of others, Oliver? I can feel them outside."
"No, as I told them, I'm doing this only because I see some benefit." He continued leaning forward while saying, "But I also don't like arrogant jerks who send others to fight their battles."
"So you don't like the world government, apparently." She tilted her head slightly to the side while saying, "So, is this your type of justice? Frankly, I expected a different attitude."
"It's not about justice, good or bad. You have your own will, and I have mine, my likes and dislikes, and it's based on them that I guide myself."
"Who's the arrogant one now? You have a bold tone for someone who's unarmed."
"I'm not a hero; I just follow my own logic." Oliver rested his fist on his chin now with a smile, saying, "If I'm unarmed, then what are you so afraid of?"
