chapter 86 (Rise of the Herald II)

Chapter 86

Banished one’s Legacy

You, one that is far from tired of living, Rise for your mission has yet to end.

Rise if you would, for that is your curse!

I rose back as fumes, and black smoke covered my entire body, my flesh reconstructed and my bones mended, my armor repaired itself using soul energy.

The feeling around my limbs came back, and my blood began to pump. Ah, what a wonderful feeling.

“D-Daiki…” said Haruka in a frightened tone. “What are those?” she added.

I turned around to see hundreds of thousands of small specs floating around me…

These were souls…

“Be consumed,” I spoke, and they were instantly sucked into me forcing my armor to glow then it dimmed while a sheen remained on it.

“They are but some evil spirits. King of the desert, you said that there was an army charging their way here right?” I said

“Yes.” He replied

“I will be back in a few, I need to release some stress.

“We will come with you.” Said Misaka who seemed to be much more proactive than before.

Normally after the enormous time, I spent in that void training under that guy I should have forgotten these guy’s faces, but it seems that it was not the case…

“No need, you grew strong indeed, but there is something I have to do myself.”

“Herald…” spoke the hovering ghost that was spinning around the King.

“You… I remember seeing you in that place though you must not have seen me. Thank you for freeing us from Ravanna.” She said with a smile on her face.

“Hmm, you must have been one of the ones in that dungeon, there is no need for thanks, I did that to save my skin… but you look… incomplete…”

“Indeed, Her soul fragmented a lot, I could not resurrect her…”

“You have a fruit of the tree of life on you I presume?” I said addressing the king that just spoke.

“Yes.” He replied

“Hand it to me.”

“For what reason?” said the King.

“Though I should avenge myself due to your role in imprisoning me… you helped my companions, and for that, I can repay that with this. Hand it over.”

The king brought the same fruit and threw it towards me.

“Do you have a suitable corps?”

“I still have her old bones, it's in the sarcophagus under this temple.” Said the king.

Then let’s go.

Even if the threat of the incoming word that was approaching ever so slowly on this temple I didn’t think it would be a great of a concern especially after the enlightenment I received by the hands of Vendir.

The party followed us without uttering a sound, they had some anxious look on them, but I was on the other hand much more relieved. This is great actually its been long since I felt the breeze of air since I last took a breath and since I last felt my surrounding.

My body hadn’t changed, but the notifications that were popping asking for attention were clear signs that I changed mentally at least. I will check them once I finish what I have to do here.

“Do you have a way of bringing her back Herald? I don’t want her to turn to some unsightly undead.” Said the king

“Don’t worry about that, it is but soul fragmentation it can easily be fixed,” I said

“Soul fragmentation is something that only soul eaters can accomplish, and there has never been a cure for that curse.” He said

“That is only because you never visited hell,” I said then looked at the adorned sarcophagus, ti was magnificent made and adorned with gold.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

There were several of these things here. But this one was the grandest.

“You rule over barren lands King Solomon. You rule over monsters without company… what a sad fate” I said

Opening the coffin I saw a skeleton of a person, it looked old and brittle.

I then caught the squirming soul around Solomon and got her closer to me.

“What are you doing!” Shouted the King.

“Take it easy I am here to help,” I said as I imbued her with soul energy.

Her once etheral form began to shine as she let a moan that was a bit too embarrassing to hear.

I then squeezed the fruit on the skeleton and forced the soul into the body.

“You cannot just like a soul to a body like that,” said the king.

“I can, and I will just look,” I said then spoke

“Rise soul of the dead for that your journey has yet to end, rise and be revived for that you are no longer bound by your old death. Rise and revive for that I command it”

And with that, a green light shone from the once old corps as flesh began to mend and her body began to regenerate.

It took a moment as everyone was looking amazed by this trivial trick.

And the body of the once dead person coughed as it breathed air.

“Well, didn’t I tell you I can handle it… now, its time we kick some ass…” I said.

Looking away from the now naked person that just revived I saw a tomb that was rather peculiar…

“Who does that tomb belong to?”

“It belongs to the high priest of sun… he died long ago…” said the King

A notification then showed up

Quest update

You have discovered a clue about the whereabouts of the Food Necromancer.

I then smirked

It seems that that quest has yet to be solved.

I then approached the tomb.

It's time to end that damned quest.

I got closer to the tomb and opened it.

It had the corps of an old looking man.

“Rise undead” I spoke as the corps stood up from its place.

“Who are you?” I asked the corps that now began to look around

“You revived me as an undead… quite the irony.” Spoke the man.

“What do you know about necromancy using food?” I asked

“I can teach you that whenever you want but it seems that there are several beings approaching this place,” said the man

“Ah, so you are the one that can cook food delicious enough to revive the dead…” I asked

“Heh, food? Nah that is but basic alchemy but I know about food making I reached the pinnacle, and I served my lord Solomon for decades.” He said

“Very well, then I will come back after I deal with those pests,” I said.

“Very well then, I should probably head back next to my king, it seems that serving him is my fate even after death.” Said the man while snickering.

“Solomon,” I spoke addressing the man who just had two of his most important personnel brought back from death.

“What is it that you need Herald?” he said.

“I need a corps from this place… a corpse of a strong one… there is one here, but it is filled with malicious intent, may I have it?” I asked.

“Do as you wish,” he said while gently caring for his revived wife.

I then approached a smaller tomb. However this tomb, unlike the others that had signs of great honor on them, this one was rather plain, it looked like a prison to someone. It was ladened with steel and iron.

“That one belonged to my head mage. He tried to usurp the throne while I was away, do you truly need to revive him?” said the King.

“I will not revive that man, but I have a promise I need to keep,” I said

I used my metamorphosing blade to cut apart the restraints, and the coffin opened.

The very skeleton of this person was restrained with various metals and chains.

“Raise undead” I cast, and it stood, however unlike before where I summoned the spirit of the old mage that was somehow still hovering in this place, (it was probably due to this reason that the quest exists, if his soul had somehow disappeared from the world the quest shouldn't have ever existed.) this one was a soulless husk of bones. It was without ego. Exactly what I needed.

I then called upon a special soul and bound it with this corps.

It began to gain color, skin began to fuse with it, and its bones began to become more rip.

However, it did not gain its vigor and remained as a corpse.

Vindir Saida.

The sacrilegious king

‘Lich’

Level 1887

Once a king of the world, banished from the world of the living and now revived as a Lich.

A strong magician has revived once again.

let his terror snuff the lives of those that stand in his way.

“You have kept your promise, Herald.” Spoke the revived Lich.

“Indeed, now what is your stance in all of this.” I said, “You can leave this place, you can wreak havoc on those that had killed you, and you can reign supreme once again, I will not bother with what you want to do, you did enough for me as is.” I said

“Hand me my staff.” He said

I then called upon his staff that was still showing no proper methods of usage and threw it towards him.

Once he caught it, his skin began to shimmer in a more humane looking color, he changed from a dead corpse to a living creature and several drabs and robes of black covered his exposed body.

“I will help you against those that wanted our demise. I have no qualm with this world.” He said

“Let's bring some carnage to this peaceful land.” He added with a smirk that showed his hatred.

“Your level seemed to have increased,” I said”

“True, I no longer am bound by humanity, I revived as a Lich. When I was in Hell, I was still bound to being a human, now revived by you, I took your deathly inheritance… I too am banished from death.” He said as he smirked

“Very well then, an undead undying companion should be useful,” I said

The party then looked at us with stupefied expressions before I spoke.

“We will be back in a few, wait for us,” I said as I shadow stepped out of the palace and into the desert. A moment later Vindir showed up next to me as he floated not willing to walk the land.

Before us, lay hundreds of thousands of enormous beasts and monsters that were rampaging and running forward, their aim was the palace… or perhaps me. And I am more than willing to meet them.

“Herald, do you remember our training?” asked the Lich.

“I do,” I said as I was tempted to check upon the notifications that showed up.

“Let's show them the difference between now and before. Let's show them how futile their struggle is and how their end shall be. Let's kill and rampage, let's conquer and destroy… let us be this world’s guardians and their world’s calamity” said the Lich as he brought up his staff…

well, he sure knows how to do some pep talk...
