Stage Act 4: Opening, IV

"Can this wait? I'll you about it… just wait until I drop her off." Before I reply, Angel comes back and Pandres gets up and holds her hand.

"Let's get you back home now." She tries to put up a resistance but eventually gives up.

She pays for the food and leaves with me following suit. We walk through the streets and Angel starts pointing out places and people for me, telling me some information about them and her personal opinions on them. She had nothing, but good things to say.

After an hour of walking, they both suddenly stop and stare silently at a display stand "What's up?" I look at what they're staring at and it's a bracelet, it didn't look that valuable, but it did look aesthetically pleasing enough to go for a good price.

"How may I help you?" The street vendor walks up to us with a big smile.

"Where'd you get this from?" Angel asks while pointing at the bracelet.

"I don't really remember, unfortunately, but if you're interested in it, I could give you a discount on it. How does that sound?" Angel just looks away and starts pulling Pandres' hand.

"Let's go, big sis." Pandres sensing Angel's discomfort reluctantly leaves, leaving me behind.

"So, how much is it?" The vendor who was staring at the two leaving notices that I was still there and quickly gets into his salesman's shtick.

"It's around fifty silver coins or one gold coin, but for you, I'll make it forty silvers." Forty!? Listen I'm no cheapskate, but forty for a scrape of metal is just too much! I could make my own using the silver from the coins!

'Shit, they're almost out of my sight.'

"Angel, what are you so upset about?" She was squeezing my hand very tightly, so I stopped her and bent a knee to be at eye level with her, but she just looked away.

"Come on, you know I won't know what you're upset about unless you tell me." I did know but I've known Angel for many years now so I know that this girl tends to keep her negative feelings pent up in her heart and let them fester.

"It's that bracelet… it was her's."

"I had suspected that." I immediately understood who she was talking about. Her mother was a very sensitive subject for her, that's why I've never been able to talk to her about it, whenever I've tried to bring it up she'd just go quiet like right now until I'd let it go.

"I just can't forgive her…" Tears were beginning to form around the corner of her eyes.

"Do you want to tell me why?" When it comes to situations like this, you need to take things slow and let them talk as much as they're comfortable with.

"I just don't understand why she left me…" then the tears started to flow and I couldn't bear it anymore and pulled her into a hug.

"What do we have here?" I look up to find the asshole from the tavern, I look around and realize Sebastian wasn't there.

I stand up while keeping Angel behind me "What do you want? Haven't had your fill of making a fool of yourself yet?" It took all I had back in the tavern not to cut him in half, but right now with Angel being as emotionally distraught as she is, I wouldn't hesitate. Consequences be damned.

"Hey, hey, now I was just passing by when I noticed you and it made me think, you've been pushing your limits lately," I tell Angel to cover her ears.

"And I believe you need a little reminder that just because you've been sucking up to the duke by taking care of his daughter doesn't mean you're above the law." And there it was, the reason I told Angel to plug her ears. The girl already had no one to turn to, her thinking I was only trying to curry a favor from her father would destroy her.

I reach for my sword, but that's when the man was sent flying into a wall.

"Apologies for being late." Sebastian had punched the man right in the face sending him flying.

I regain my composure and put a smile on my face "You're not that good of a knight are you?" He laughs.

"You still haven't paid me so you shouldn't complain." He looks at the sobbing mess that was Angel and reached his hand out for her.

"What are you crying for? I just took down the bad guy, you should be cheering." Instead of taking his hand, she jumps into his arms which he wasn't ready for, but he doesn't stop her.

"You just fucked up, buddy! You just punched me in front of all these people except-" I point the tip of my sword at his neck.

"Enough! Be quiet." The fear in his eyes was clear as day. This was a man who had never been in an actual fight.

"Yeah, be quiet!" I look at the little girl In Sebastian's arms, she was glaring at the man. Then the crowd that had formed started snickering.

"Listen, put down y-your sword. We don't want this to turn into something we will all regret." I push my blade into his throat causing some blood to trickle down his neck.

"Okay, I'm sorry! I'll never do this again!" Now blood wasn't the only liquid coming out of his body. With that, I sheath my sword and turn to the two.

"Let's go." The crowd makes way for us and he falls to his knees.

"Tell me your name." I look back to see Sebastian standing over him with a scary look on his face.

"E-Elliot Wolfgang!" He bends down.

"Apologize to her." He hesitates but does apologize.

The satisfied Sebastian gets to his feet and walks towards me with Angel wiping her tears.

"See? Most bad guys seem like they're big and strong, but in reality, are just little guys picking on the littler guys." He hands her over to me and looks back at the crowd.

"If he ever causes problems again just call for Sebastian, the king's sword!" The crowd was shocked at this but cheered nonetheless.

"Hey, can you walk on your own now?" She nods and I put her down.

I lean over to him and whisper "What the hell was that?! You're not even a knight, let alone a royal knight?!" He laughs and shrugs.

"I've always wanted to say it and not to mention, if you want to become king you need to have some notoriety, but since you'd instantly be hunted down and killed, I settled for building up my reputation." Still, this would attract the attention of some dangerous people.

"You shouldn't do these things without consulting me."

I hate to admit it, but she was right. I instantly regretted saying that, but I had already said some cool stuff and got caught up in the heat of the moment and said it.

After that, we just walked in silence until we entered the nobles district. The houses were extremely impressive and the roads were very clean.

"You live around here, Angel?" She gives me a little nod.

We kept walking until we arrived at the biggest mansion of them all and there we found an old man waiting at the gate.

"Angelina! Dear, we have been so worried, you just disappeared without telling anyone where you went!" Angel hides behind me and Pandres.

"Sorry…" Pandres bows her head and ushers me to do the same so I bow my head slightly.

"Apologies your grace, I had no idea that Angel hadn't informed anyone of her leave." Angel goes through the gate while muttering another apology.

'I didn't get to say goodbye…'

"Goodbye, Angel!" Angel and Pandres turn and look at me with shock.

"And who are you?" I look down at him due to the difference in our height.

"I'm Sebastian. I was accompanying these two." He looks me up and down with disgust.

"Do you expect some reward?" I was a bit taken aback by this, before I could reply Pandres puts her arm in front of me.

"My apologies your grace, he's my partner and he's new around here. I can assure you he isn't looking for any kind of reward." He turns his back on us and walks past the gate.

"I see. Well, thank you for looking after my daughter, Pandres." The two guards close and lock the gate. I brace myself for another scolding, but she just lets out a sigh.

"Man, we need to work on your etiquette when dealing with nobles." She slaps my back and smiles.

"Ugh, I'm exhausted, being tense all the time isn't good for my health." She walks away and I follow her.

"I'm gonna take the rest of the day off, what're you gonna do?"

I look at the sun which was an hour or so away from setting "It's already too late to do the other things I had planned so finding a place to stay is all." she just smirks.

"No need, I already found an inn." She proudly puffs her chest.

Throughout the walk to the inn, we just talked and joked about that asshole.

We arrived at the inn, it was located on the outskirts of the nobles district, but it wasn't that fancy, but it would still cost a pretty penny. Alas, I wasn't the one paying so I'm not going to complain.

She opened the door and fell onto the bed and I laid my stuff on the table. She then raised her head and realized what I had also realized.

"There's only one bed… guess you're going to have to sleep on the floor."

"First, I'd rather get my own room than sleep on the floor. Second, I'm just going to sleep on the chair."

"Anyways, I'm going to wash up." As I make my way, she jumps off the bed and runs to the bathroom…

"You're so childish." I sit on the chair and look at my gear.

The sword's in good condition, the breastplate's a bit rusted from the rain, and the boots could use a little more care.

After that I found myself with nothing to do, so I started to think back on the events that happened today.

After zoning out for a bit, she finally gets out of the bathroom with a relaxed look on her face.

"Thanks for letting me go first." I avert my gaze right away.

"Have some shame woman!" She laughs and grabs my cloak.

"Oh come on, get used to it." How could I ever get used to this?!

I feel my way through the room and finally find the bathroom.

I open my eyes to find the bucket of water nearly empty, I begrudgingly fill it with water using magic and begin to take off my clothes.

I begin to wear my clothes 'Honestly, most of the men I know wouldn't even complain… actually, there was one that acted just like him.'

After I got dressed something caught my attention, it was his sword.

It's a beautiful sword, a strange sword of a style that I didn't know of, it had runes that filled the blades fuller, a purple gemstone on the pommel, with a leather grip, a golden cross-guard that was in the shape of a triangle and there were symbols on each point of the triangle, and the blade was a bit curved. It was a sword that you wouldn't even think was used for battles, but it had some signs of being worn out.

'I see why he didn't want to sell it to me, it's probably worth so much more.' I hold it in my hand, but I wasn't expecting it to be this heavy.

I used both my hands, but even then I could barely lift it. It was too heavy to even be used in a fight.

'How has he been using this?' I thought there was a trick to it, but it felt as if I was carrying a giant rock in place of an actual blade.

Suddenly a knock at the door caused me to jump.

I put the sword back and open the door to find red eyes looking down at me.

"You again?"
