After we agreed to the plan the brat went on to explain every single detail saying "Every detail is very important, don't mess up it." Specifically while looking at me.
I may not like him but I have to admit the plan was simple and good… but he really didn't have to explain every detail.
I'll spare you the many details, we just had to wear robes and cover our faces and we would get carried in a carriage meant for nobles and we would get past the gates with the help of Elliot, who was a high-ranking knight.
"Isn't your father going to get worried?"
"That man never cared about me, and I doubt he would start now."
"I meant that you weren't helping with searching for us with the rest of the knights."
The embarrassment had crept up on his face "Oh… no, I've told my squad to patrol the area and I've been making some appearances here and there so it shouldn't raise any suspicion."
"I see, have you talked to the lady in the lobby?"
"Yeah, we told her that you guys weren't the ones we were looking for."
"I doubt she believed that, I did threaten her to keep quiet."
"You did what now?!" That came from Pandres who was coming out of the bathroom.
"I did what was necessary and It worked, she didn't report us so you have nothing to be pissed about."
"Still you shouldn't threaten innocent people and I'm good friends with that lady!"
"That's a bit hypocritical, you put your blade to my throat remember?" We didn't need to reply to the idiot.
"If what you and she told me is true, then you were far from innocent, Elliot."
"Enough of this, when are we moving out?" This meaningless talk was just a waste of time.
"In two days." The brat answered.
"Too long. Make it tomorrow."
"As I've said before the timing for this plan is very important, you would know that if you paid attention."
"I know you said it's important, you repeated it a thousand times."
"You're lucky you're important to Pandres, Grandpa, or else I would've handed you over to the wolves a long time ago."
"Why do you care if I'm important to her, Mr. Respectable Knight? What are you in love with her?" I was just searching for anything to say to get under his skin. And it looks like I found it.
To everyone's surprise but mine, his face gave away what he was going to do, he threw a punch but I wasn't exhausted like before, I could clearly follow his punch this time and caught it.
"Shut up!" He threw a side kick but before it could connect with my head it was stopped.
"You're both so childish!" And then the top of my head started to throb.
I look up to find that Pandres had hit both of us.
"My goodness, honestly, how do you expect us to work together if you keep acting like this?!"
"We're not working together-" He got cut off.
"I don't care, if something bad happens because of your stupid squabbles I'll make sure you both regret it!"
She was right, I was acting childish, I should've just let it go.
"I apologize, I was in the wrong and I'm sorry." I wasn't, but it would be better for me if I just went along with it.
"I'm sorry too, I shouldn't have gotten angry…"
Then there was just awkward silence.
The one who broke the silence was the other idiot, "Ahm we'll be taking our leave now. Don't go out unless necessary. Even then just notify the lady and she'll call for us."
This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author's consent. Report any appearances on Amazon.
And with that, he dragged the brat out with him.
The atmosphere was still awkward, to say the least, but it wasn't time to be feeling awkward we needed to get things figured out.
"Then with our escape route figured out we should think about what we'll do after that."
"I'm fine with whatever, so it's really up to Angel."
We both turn to her and she was zoning out but then noticed we were waiting for her to answer.
"Um I'm sorry I wasn't listening, what did you say?"
"What do you want to do? Where do you want to go?" She thinks for a bit.
"I want to stay with you two… I know it'll be hard but-"
"You sure you don't want to go live with your aunt?" That option wasn't possible anymore, at least not if we followed that brat's plan, but if she decided against it then I'd get her there no matter what.
"No, I want to learn how to be strong from you."
"First, I'm not teaching anything, sorry. Second, you know I'm not that strong."
"But you stopped that punch like it was nothing!"
"I'm certainly stronger than that brat but still, the answer is no."
"I agree with Sebastian, you can come with us but he's not teaching you how to fight."
"But why?"
"Because that's not what your father or mother would've wanted." And that ended that conversation.
"With that sorted, we have two other things we have to worry about, as they said after we're out of the capital, we're on our own and our goal is still unclear."
"Well, we can just ask them to get us a horse or two and for the goal, it's pretty simple."
"What is it?"
"Garner some fame like you said and gain some support from the people and maybe some big wigs."
"I see, then are you ready to openly oppose the regime and be an outlaw?"
"I've always been ready."
"Then that settles it."
I check the bags some are filled with food and canteens of water and some with winter clothes.
"They sure are accommodating for us."
"Yeah, I asked for those."
"I'm guessing it was the work of that brat… you two are closer than you're letting on?"
"Not that it's any of my business." I was a bit curious, but again, it wasn't any of my business.
"You want me to tell you, don't you?"
"A little, I'd like to know how to deal with him accordingly." Can't have him lord him kicking my ass over me with no reply.
"First, we need to do something." She stood up and walked over to the door.
'Is she allergic to telling me a story right away?'
"We aren't supposed to leave remember?"
"We're just going downstairs. Angel, we'll be back." If it's just downstairs then it should be fine.
I get up and walk with her to the hallway.
"What are we going to do?"
"If we're going to build our reputation then we can't have someone thinking we're violent criminals, we may be outlaws, but violent? Nope." We go down the stairs and as soon as the lady sees me she freezes.
"Hi, Iris, don't worry, we just came to apologize for what this idiot did." She gestured for me to go on.
I've been doing so much apologizing it's actually exhausting, "Haa fine, hello Ms. Iris, I'm Sebastian, and I want to apologize for threatening you. Not that I was going to do anything anyways." Pandres cleared her throat, but I wasn't sure what more she wanted me to say.
"N-No, it's fine! I appreciate you apologizing. Pandres, I'm fine. No need for anymore." Pandres sighed and then hit my back.
"He's my partner, I should've told him that you weren't going to report us. If he ever pulls another stunt like that, just let me know and I'll handle him." Pandres gives her a thumbs-up with a grin.
"Also mind getting me some wine?" Iris nods and goes into the back."
"What do you mean she wasn't going to report us?" I whispered.
"As I said before she's a friend of mine and it was short-sighted of me not to let you and her know the full situation. I just wasn't expecting you to stoop down to threatening an innocent lady."
"Again, I wasn't going to do anything," I said under my breath.
"Anyways why the wine?"
"We'll be stuck here for two days, we'll get bored so it's just a way to waste time." She takes it from Iris who came back from the back.
"Thank you, Iris." When she reached into her pocket, Iris stopped her.
"It's on the house."
"Ah alright, then thanks."
And thus we moved back into the room, when we entered we found Angel asleep, she probably got bored.
She set the bottle on the table and covered Angel with a blanket.
She then pulled out two cups from one of the bags and while she pours the wine I look out the window to the night sky as the snowflakes fell I couldn't help, but feel at peace.
"Here." She handed me a cup, I usually steer clear of alcohol but not this time, I wasn't going to be the only one that was sober.
'Doesn't look bad,' I took a sip and it was quite nice.
I look to see her reaction and she just chugged it down.
"So you're not the type to take a drink slow eh?"
"Not at all."
"Alright then just keep in mind if you do get drunk to keep it down." She nods and pours herself another cup.
"So are you going to tell me about you and that brat?"
"Yeah, so as usual I'll keep it short and simple." I take a sip and let her continue.
"Before he became a knight, we came to know each other when we were younger and I ended up teaching him swordsmanship, and after some time he confessed his feelings for me, but I had to reject him." So that's why he got pissed.
"But even after that, we stayed as friends and one day I was really down in the dumps, like really down and he pulled me out of that and was there for me when I needed a shoulder to cry on, and ever since then I think he got this sense that he had to protect me, even though I've reminded him many times I don't need to be taken care of."
"And so that's why he's helping us this much."
"Hm, do you think he still likes you?"
"Nah, he's gotten over it." She finishes her cup and pours herself another while I haven't even finished half of mine.
"There's also something else I want to ask about, you said you liked folktales right?" She nods with interest and curiosity written all over her face.
"So about the First King, how true do think his story is?" She puts her hand on her chin and looked to be in deep thought.
"I've only read book 1 and haven't been able to find the other ones, but I have heard some stories about the rest of the story."
"My personal belief is that most of book 1 is true, but the part with the monster is hard to believe." Should I tell her about the thing in my dreams?
"What do you think?"
"I believe every part of it." She was drinking as I said this and choked on it.
"Huh?!"
"Quiet down, the kid's asleep, remember?" She apologizes and we look back and Angel's still asleep.
"But hold on, you, who doesn't seem like the type to believe in kid's stories believes that a monster who can't be hit, exists? I'm sorry but that's just hard to believe." If only you knew what I had to deal with every time I slept.
"Magic exists, so does a terrifying monster really surprise you?" Something seemed to click in her head and a shiver goes throughout her whole body.
"That monster was something that adults used to use to scare kids into behaving, and to think it might exist…" I understand the fear, that thing is honestly disturbing.
"You don't have to worry about that you've got me on your side." I point my sword at the ceiling. So yeah this is why I don't drink… I can't hold my liquor, I got drunk from half a cup.
"Oooh Mr. Sebastian, who I've only ever seen lose is talking like that?" This childish provocation wouldn't work on me… when I was sober at least but when I was drunk is another story.
"Oh please, I could easily beat you in a dual if I wanted to." She laughed quietly.
"Really now? Have you already forgotten our first meeting, old man?"
"I'll have you know I'm not a day over twenty." I go to pour myself another cup, but the bottle had already been finished.
"You finished the whole bottle… what are you a dwarf?" She drunkenly stood up and stumbled to the door, but thankfully I wasn't drunk enough to let her leave.
"Pandres… we aren't allowed to go outside." She tried to argue that it was fine, but she was slurring on her words so I don't think I understood her at the time.
As she turned the knob I grabbed her hand and told her no… or at least I think I did.
"Fineee… but you have to tell me… something about yoursself…" I agreed and managed to get her to sit down.
I think I told her about why I really came here… honestly, I'm unsure. I don't remember what happened very well.
But I know we somehow made it onto the bed… or no, we didn't, I think we collapsed on the floor.
And now we were up to date with what happened, I clap my hands, and the two people on the stage disappeared.
Yeah, I passed out and found myself in this void.
Even in here, I had a splitting headache, I waited for that guy to appear, but he didn't.
'For the first time I was alone…' no feeling of irritation, I was relaxed.
This was the first night I had complete peace and quiet.
