I had to look away as I entered the bright new world, but when I looked back, I couldn't help but be shocked.
The view from the inside of the tunnel definitely made me think it was going to be pretty compared to the tunnel. But I was wrong. The outside world was leagues above the tunnel.
A green landscape stretched off and dissappeared in thick wooden lines adorned with multi-colored bushy things.
This must be... trees? Silver did explain how trees looked and these looked really close to what it described. Is the green landscape then grass? It looks so... underwhelming compared to trees.
The light blue infinity with dashes of white sat above the trees. This sight was engraved into my mind as I gazed onto it, watching the dashes of white that floated lazily before noticing a bright yellow circle with lines coming from it looking down upon everything. I felt my eyes burn at how nice the yellow looked.
And then something silver stepped in my way, blocking the pretty thing. I looked at Silver angirly, and tilted my head quickly.
"Sorry Eclipse, you can't stare at the sun. You'll lose your eyesight."
Silver said apologetically.
The sun? Wait, aren't I supposed to blot it out of the sky? Is the light blue the sky? How am I supposed to get that high when I can't even fly! Also why the sun? Even though its painful, I like how bright it is, I refuse to blot it out of the sky!
I thought to myself, angry on why Mother wanted the sun bloted. Did she not see the beauty of the sun?
Wait isn't Mother inside a dark world? Maybe she's scared of stuff she can't see, oh I know! I'll just bring her here and we can enjoy the view together!
I thought to myself happily, I couldn't wait to let Mother see this.
I looked over to the group of creatures as they looked back confused about something.
"Hey miss knight, has Eclipse ever been above ground?"
I heard the golden shell ask quietly.
"No, this would be its first time outside."
Silver said hesitantly, worried about something. I once again saw it place a hand on the line which stayed just where its legs connected to the rest of the body.
"...Miss knight, not to judge your reasoning, but is that perhaps the demon that was summoned?"
The golden shell once again asked quieter.
This time Silver didn't answer as it started pulling the line out of the long brown container. It seemed unsure of something, but I couldn't be sure as it's face was covered by its shell.
The black shell looked disturbed by something, and the brown shell looked furious. The both of them took a defensive stand, but the golden shell stepped infront of them, and asked once again.
"May I know your reasoning when you decided to deal with a demon then?"
Again with the demon word.
It didn't seem to be a good word seeing how the golden shell hesitated everytime it said the word.
"... This is not a demon."
"Yet something is telling me that it came from the ritual circle as I clearly remeber the other mercs telling us on how the only thing we would need to worry about is the cultists since they basically sacrificed everything they saw. I have no intention to believe that they somehow missed a creature such as this one. It simply stands out to much with its pristine white fur which seems to be only a little red, and we're not even talking about the pitch black lines that are everywhere."
The second Silver answered the question, the golden shell immediately fired back with statements about me.
Wait are these talking about me? Am I the demon? No that can't be, I'm Eclipse, right?
"Yes it did come from the ritual, but I am not lying when I say it is not a demon. The ritual failed and it spat out Eclipse instead of a demon."
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
So not a demon, thats good. After all my name was given to me by Mother.
Silver responded coldly. It didn't even let the golden shell ask another question or make a statement as it fully pulled out its line and spoke louder than before.
"Eclipse has not done anything wrong, it was forced into this world by something. Do not try and attack us, I won't hesitate to cut you down."
The brown shell responded instead of the golden shell this time.
"Then the rumors that say you are insane must be correct then."
This seemed to make Silver freeze.
"Did you really think us peasants couldn't tell if you were a known merc? Do you think that peasants don't know things? Even in your head you probably think you're some big shit, but I'm betting that you used your power to get such a high position, and here I thought bastard-"
The brown shell said cockly and had a snarl on its upper body, before the expression fell and was replaced by something I couldn't tell, but I did notice it started doing the defensive shake that silver was doing before. It also seemed like a weird pressure fell on me.
"I will make this very clear for peasants like you. All the progress I have done, was without anybody's help, all the equipment I have bought was with my money I earned through missions and bounties that I completed by myself. I have given up my nonexistent noble title I once had for a life of hardship. Do not pretend to know me."
It's voice was coldier than before now, and unlike the fake coldness from before, it sounded genuine.
Doesn't mean I like it.
I decided this was when I would intervene by tapping Silver near the bottom of its legs. This caused the weird pressure to remove itself and I noted that the brown shell fell onto it's legs, breathing heavy. While the black shell only shuddered. The golden shell didn't move a bit so the actions of the other two confused me.
I stared at them for and bit, they definitely were part of Silver's species even if they all had different colors, they all acted so weirdly. And then I felt Silver gaze at me, which broke me out of my thoughts of guessing what their weird behavior meant, I looked back and flapped my wings annoyingly.
Why are you so weird around your own kind!?
And Silver answered my question more confusingly than the blue rectangles did, for some reason it started making the series of weird noises it does every now and then.
"Of course you wouldn't understand. Alright, I'll tell you later, right now I have to make something very clear. Gerald, Mike and Lex, I do not care what you will say about me siding with a creature that came from a demon summoning, know this well, Eclipse is far better than what humanity has to offer, and I will protect that. Come at me if you dare!"
Silver lifted up the line it was holding with one hand and pointed at the group near the end. And, finally, got rid of that cold tone it kept using when talking with the group of creatures.
Ah finally, this sounds so much better.
"A demon better than humans!? Have you finally lost your mind!? Demons are the definition of vile! They are the mistakes of the-"
The brown shell stood up, and started walking towards us while replying angrily before it was interrupted by the golden shell once more, who held out its hand to stop brown shell from approaching us.
"Lex that's enough."
The brown shell, named Lex, spun it's head, the brown fur, which was connected to the top of its head and reached down to the bottom of its head, followed a second after. It's stared into the golden shell.
"What do you mean that's enough!? We need to exterminate that demon-!"
"No Lex, what Gerald is saying is correct."
The black shell seemed to respond instead of the golden shell named Gerald. Lex looked in disbelief at the black shell as it looked back with what seemed to be sadness. Lex was going to respond, but instead it just ran away.
"Wait Lex-"
Black shell seemed to be worried now as it took a step to start following it, and called out to Lex, but Gerald stopped it.
"She needs some alone time Mike, this is too much for her at the moment."
The black shell named Mike looked back and forth at Gerald and were Lex ran into the trees. Before stepping back and hanging its head, the black fur flowing down and covering its face.
Ok, what just happened?
These creatures were just too confusing. Silver told me there was many of its 'people' in the world, I honestly don't think my head can handle anymore confusion this species kept creating.
"Miss knight, I am sorry about her. She has had some... trouble with demon kind."
Gerald said with sadness, but it continued.
"We... are sorry for thinking Eclipse was a demon, we have no wish to fight with you. After all you have saved my family from a goblin attack 5 months ago. And saved Mike and Lex from getting overrun by the goblins when they were rookies. The things you have done that day has inspired many. Even if you adorned a cloak, some mercs and civilians noticed you. I trust in the words of the hero."
Silver grew silent as it looked away.
"U-um that wasn't me, I was out on a mission. B-besides I think anyone would've done that."
It said shakingly for some reason.
This caused Gerald to make the same weird noise Silver made but louder.
"You don't believe that truly, after all isn't Eclipse 'far better than what humanity has to offer'?"
Silver made the weird noise again but it sounded forced.
What's wrong with it, honestly I'm just so confused.
This time I flapped my wings aggressively out of sheer confusion, Mike seemed to notice this as I heard its voice immediately afterwards.
"What- What is it doing?"
It sounded worried or something similar to it.
Silver answered on my behalf which I'm grateful for as it seems that these erratic movements weren't understood by the other creatures.
"Oh Eclipse is just wondering what is going on, don't worry it isn't attacking."
"Huh? What do you mean it's wondering what's going on? Is it intelligent enough to understand us?"
Mike replied, its voice breaking.
"Did you think I was talking to something that couldn't understand me? Why would I do that?"
Gerald and Mike didn't respond for some odd reason. Well since Im getting tired of all the talking that I clearly couldn't understand, I guess it's time to explore.
