Pov Eclipse
Suddenly the world got so much brighter, but still a bit dark, once I felt some sort of liquid fall on my head. Opening my eyes allowed me to see a dirty white furry creature my size. It had pure white eyes and it stood on four legs. Its face was elongated, and its maw filled with teeth.
For some reason I was now amid a large gathering of trees. I kept getting moved everywhere...
wait why are you looking at me like that?
I then came to a sudden realization.
Wait... I'm not food!
I had a slight suspicion that this creature had thought I was food and was about to eat me, at least I think so considering it had its maw open. But for some reason it didn’t move any farther, it just stared at me with those creepy eyes.
The sound of some creature sounded from afar which broke creature out of its daze.
Not wanting to test those clearly sharp teeth, I hurriedly got up, noticing that I was slightly larger than the creature. My movements seemed to stop the creature once again, yet this time it took a single step back.
Following its example I took a step back, and some more just in case.
Something that didn’t matter once the creature leaped at me, closing the distance fast enough I couldn’t react.
It was clearly stronger than me. With ease it pushed me onto my back and pinned me to the ground with its legs on my wings. Its mouth snapped a multitude of times too close to my eyes, thankfully four of my legs were keeping the creature away, though that wasn’t going to work for long as the creature was quite heavy.
I had no idea what to do in such a situation. I just tried pushing back against the creature, which kind of worked as my legs went farther out, but it seemed the creature wasn’t moved.
Rather it started getting more desperate, so I just kept pushing and my legs kept going farther and farther. Suddenly the creature stopped and tried to put some distance between us.
I gladly allowed that not wanting to deal with a creature wanting to eat me.
I had some sympathy for the creature, knowing I had to deal with the same hunger. But I had no way of helping it. Instead, I simply started walking backwards. The creature thankfully didn’t try to jump at me again and rather also walked backwards, it wasn’t long before I lost sight of the creature, but I didn’t stop until I was sure the creature didn’t follow me.
Finally, able to appreciate the surroundings, I looked around the area, the trees were massive and had a reddish tint, with leaves of a dark rich green. The branches of these trees were long and made a sort of roof as they interlocked with other branches from different trees. The sun was still able to come through, casting light on the otherwise dark area.
The largest of the areas where the sun struck was on a blueish rock. Now that nothing was happening, I was able to take note of the chill I was feeling, so I trotted over to the rock and just took a break.
I was finally alone...
The wind was gentle... The sun felt warm...
This is nice.
I looked at a flower that had blue petals.
This place sure is messy, but it does have its moments.
I’m not sure if I wanted to come back to the humans again, they are too pushy.
Maybe later, I do miss everyone I met. Oh well they can wait; I want to explore!
I looked over myself and was not happy with the results. All my fur was dirty, just like that creature, my wings were also not working anymore, four of my legs were red tipped for some reason. It looked like blood.
Was it from that creature?
I don’t know, and I don’t think I care that much. What I did know was that I was a mess.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
I felt the hunger return
And that I was hungry...
I had looked around already and nothing looked like the food I saw before... Unless.
Getting off my rock was saddening, but last time I was too hungry, nothing good happened. Walking over to the blue flower, I chomped down without hesitation; it was a flower I saw all the time after all.
It didn’t taste good, but the sun was still high up, the moon wasn’t coming any time soon.
Do flowers even feed me? I don’t feel any less hungry... Now that I’m thinking about it, I’ve gotten hungrier...
Maybe eating flowers was a bad idea.
I could try eating some creature after all that other creature tried to eat me... no no, I’m sure I’ll find something.
I don’t know where that thought came from, I never had thought of that before now.
My hunger must be messing with me.
I grumbled internally, nothing around my area looked edible. I hoped I could find this place again; it looks nice.
Without a direction in mind, I picked a random direction and started trotting.
----------------------------------------
This place was pretty enough that it almost made me forget I was hungry. Almost.
It was very peaceful as well, something that I didn’t know was a good thing or a bad thing. As I was wondering where all the creatures were, I met two of them on my path.
One was huge and blended into the shadows well, it had four short legs and a round body. It was standing on another creature that was lying on the ground, it had deep brown fur with a mass of red just under the other creature.
Just as I was about to show myself to the two creatures, the one on top reached down and ripped a piece off the other creature.
Ok so that’s happening.
I already had an idea what was happening, this had looked remarkably familiar to earlier, but for some reason I didn’t want to think it was correct.
I quickly hid behind the tree again; I needed time to reorganize my thoughts.
So, is this normal, taking one's life and eating its corpse?
I had seen the darkness and felt the emptiness, the feeling of absolute nothingness, I don’t know if that was the same as death, but I did know that existing as nothingness was horrifying. Thinking about it frightened me, I do not want to ever experience it again. Yet creatures did it without a second thought.
‘Never kill things without a reason to... I killed it because it was going to kill us.’
That was what Jack had said, or well how I remembered it.
… I’m hungry, and I have already seen a human getting eaten by its own, another creature had tried to eat me, and now these two...
I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was subjecting other creatures to the realm of nothingness, something I did not wish to do.
But that goblin tried killing both me and Jack, and Jack stopped it by killing it. Will I come back to nothingness if I don’t kill? Could I even? I barely held my ground against that white fur creature, and that one was smaller than me.
I looked behind the tree, looking for the black fur creature who was significantly larger than myself. It was still there, calmly eating.
That creature is larger than a human, and I can barely do anything to them... what am I supposed to do?! UGH.
This was getting frustrating, between the mess that my thoughts were and my hunger. Just as I was contemplating what to do, the black fur stopped eating and started lumbering to the side, leaving the dead creature.
…
I waited for the black fur to come back.
It's already dead...
I tried to convince myself.
...
After a bit it didn’t come back.
Ok thoughts go away for a moment, it might not even taste that good.
I told myself if it didn’t taste good, I wouldn’t bother trying to kill things. I approached the dead creature, slightly curious at what the insides of a creature looked like.
The brown fur was large when compared to me.
I felt my legs sink into the brown fur as I climbed on top of it.
I didn’t even need to climb the creature as the entire side of the creature was open, chunks of what looked like meat were spread about on the ground. Coming out of the opening and onto the ground was a pinkish thick line sprawled about. Pinkish sharp objects were present inside the creature.
I looked side to side, before climbing back down.
I wonder...
I carefully took a small piece of the creature, eating it proved my suspicions.
So, is this where meat comes from? It tastes a bit different though.
I went to the next piece and quickly picked it up.
It doesn’t matter I guess; it still tastes so good.
I hurried around picking up the scraps of meat, not even a couple of moments later I was at the entrance of the brown fur.
Ripping through the brown fur was easy, so awfully easy.
It was all a blur until the feeling of hunger went away. Which was when I just looked around, there was a lot of blood, and looking at myself, I could tell I was covered in it. It felt like when I met Silven.
Oh, that was the red shells’ blood.
I felt sticky, which bothered me.
I looked back at the dead brown fur, feeling slightly bad about it now, but then again, why should I?
Whatever I’ll think about this later, rather can I find water to clean myself? That’s how I got cleaned last time after all.
Not wanting to think about this any longer, I looked to where the black fur left and decided to go there. It also went to clean, probably, I mean I don’t feel nice having blood on me, it must also not like it.
I hope.
