Chapter 25 - First day as janitor

*Riiiiiiing* *Riiiing* *Click*.

As soon as I hear the second ring of the alarm clock, I turn it off, it's 7:00 in the morning, so I have 1 hour until work starts. However, it's not that hard. I have to know the areas I can clean and which ones are out of bounds. I don't want to clean a place used to trap a powerful demon or some nonsense like that.

So I took a bath, got dressed, and had breakfast at the central square. Kawaii also accompanied me since I didn't want her to be alone in the apartment since I would only come back when it was nighttime.

After breakfast, I head to the northern area. As there is still time left, I walked around quietly yesterday. I was so focused on wanting to get to the institute that I did not pay attention to anything, but now that I am not in a hurry, I can see that this city is immaculate and tidy. All its infrastructure is a fusion of the houses built in the 1900s with the current era's modern and elegant look. The streets are paved with primary colors, while the trees are placed in such a way as to provide shade.

As I walk, I see some students leaving to go to the academy, others go out to do their daily activities, clean their sidewalks, and others go out to work.

After 20 minutes, I get to the academy's gates, but I don't see any guards. I have no idea why so I don't think about it and walk through the gates, but as soon as I cross the gates, out of the bushes, some black-colored Ent-like monsters trees come out and surround me.

I guess it's the security system, and that's why there are no guards outside the gate. I raise my hands in surrender while Kawaii does the same.

But the moment I raise my hands, the group of Ents attack me, pointing their branches towards Kawaii and me. I dodge the attack and see that a branch brushes past Kawaii. That attack could make a hole. The thought of what could have happened to him breaks my patience instantly.

I draw my sword and make a charge attack towards the Ent that I aim directly at Kawaii; without thinking, I make a horizontal attack towards him and cut him in half. The Ent doesn't seem to know what happened and when his upper body falls to the ground, I stab my sword in his face.

Some things I don't want to remember from my adolescence run through my head, but the passive skill cool mind keeps me under control.

[You have defeated Ent from the forest]

I draw my sword and turn my head towards the group of Ents that are still in their position. They want to attack me, but they don't move.

* Eeegghhh!!!

Is that the sound they make? They sound like they can't breathe. I don't know if it's my imagination, but it sounds like they want to talk to me, but it's too late to fix things.

* Eeeeggghhh!!!

* You think I'm going to stop just because I kill this rotten branch?

* Eeeeeeeegghhh!!!

* You attacked my pet and almost hurt it. It doesn't matter if god or buddha personally comes to a stop me. I'm still going to kill them.

I start to load the Focused Slash and aim it at these rotten trees. I look around to make sure no one gets hurt by the sound of my sword other than those pestilent trees.

These geezers see that I'm about to launch an attack, so they run towards me, but it's too late.

* Get the fuck out of here.

Focused Slash!

A laido is thrown in the direction of those old trees, cuts them in half, travels about three more meters forward, and then disappears without a trace.

[You have defeated Ent of the forest x 5]

After killing these trees, I put my sword away and pick up their corpses as I plan to sell them later, and if I can't sell them, I will use them as firewood for roasting meat and marshmallows.

* Are you okay, Kawaii?

* Kiiiiiii!!! ( ✜︵✜ )

* Relax, I won't let anything happen to you.

After seeing that Kawaii was okay, I managed to calm down a bit. It seems that this commotion will attract attention. In any case, I don't regret what I did. What's more, I would do it again if the same situation arises again.

Anyway, I keep walking toward the academy, although I do not know if I can work after what I did. If they bother me with that, I will leave and look for another way to get the information I want.

After walking for 5 minutes, I get to see the academy. It is as if it were a first-class resort. Its walls are white with light blue tones, and its doors, floors, and windows are made of wood, while in front, there is a sign that says "Knowledge Center."

When I get to the entrance, I notice a man about 30-40 years old looking at me and smiling as if he approves of me or something.

* Welcome, I thought you would go through the entrance for the teachers, but I didn't think you would enter through the main door and think you would easily defeat the Ents, as expected of you.

Ah, I see. You are confusing me with someone else. I better clear things up at once.

* I'm sorry, but I think you're confusing me.

* You're not the new substitute instructor who came to replace the one who just left for the goblin extermination mission?

* No, I'm the new janitor, and I'm here to clean the first floor.

* WHAT?! Are you serious?

* Yes, may I know where the cleaning tools are, to begin with?

The teacher points me to the right as if I were a robot.

* Thank you, and good day.

I head to the right, where the professor points, and pick up the cleaning materials. This guy is still trying to assimilate what just happened, so I can't ask him for a map of this enormous complex or in which areas I can't enter. It seems I'll have to find out on my own.

I started looking for a storage room or a place where the cleaning equipment is kept, but I couldn't find it. I keep looking around until I finally find the storage room. I open the door and find a cleaning cart, a work suit, and even the instructions on what I must do, so I start reading the instructions.

Curiously I don't get a notification when I read the instructions. It seems that this function is only activated in the dungeons.

According to these instructions, there are two buildings that I have to clean. The first one is the center of knowledge which is where I am. Here they teach basic and advanced knowledge of this world. The second one is the center of effort, in which they perform physical labor to be in shape, either combat training or simple exercise.

It also says that I can recognize which is which by the signs attached to the front of the buildings. Another thing is that I don't need to clean the classrooms in the first building, which is good, and I concentrate on the hallways, but in the second building, I have to clean the hallways and sweep the training area.

It will be tedious, but if I can get into the library, it will be worth it. Okay, let's suit up and get this started.

...

Now I find myself pushing the cart through the halls of the first building. The bad thing about this is that I have no idea where to start. I wanted to go to the entrance, but.

It would be awkward to meet the professor again after our first encounter, so I took another way and found an entrance from the back.

Who cares? Let's get it over with.

I turn around to go back to the back entrance and start cleaning. These floors have magically placed on them so that their durability doesn't wear out, so it's no problem to use a mop and dry.

After that, it's time to clean the windows, which is tricky since I have to clean them one by one, but after 10 minutes, I finish it, so I move on to the next hallway.

While I start cleaning the other hallway, in some classrooms, students start talking, but I ignore them and continue with my work.

* Boy 1: Do any of you know if the replacement for the training teacher is coming today?

* Boy 2: Well, as far as I heard, they interviewed the adventurers yesterday to see who was suitable.

* Girl 1: I hope it's someone who can use more advanced magic than our master.

* Boy 1: Dream on. Those people spend their time exploring the world.

So they are discussing their teacher's replacement. We used to do that at school too, but we expected it to be more relaxed.

As I remember those school days, a girl comes running into the room at full speed.

* Girl 2: Listen, I know who is the replacement for the training teacher!

* Boy 1: Who?!

* Girl 2: I don't know his name, but he's a swordsman class adventurer.

* Girl 1: And how do you know he's a swordsman?

* Girl 2: Because I saw him 15 minutes ago, he entered through the main entrance.

* Boy 2: But the entrance is protected by the Ent of the forest, and they attack anyone who does not wear an academy pin or badge.

* Girl 2: That's the amazing thing, he went through the doors, and they activated the six Ent of the forest to surround him, then the Ent's used their sharp branch ability, and he dodged all the attacks, and then he charged towards the one on his left and cut it in half, then he charged a powerful beam of light that cut the rest of the Ent's and took the bodies away, it was terrific.

* Boy 1: What?! Is he a magic swordsman?

* Girl 2: Maybe, it was all so fast that I couldn't react in time and when I realized it was all gone.

* Girl 1: It must be a magic swordsman, that beam of light must be of a light attribute, and magic swordsmen tend to go for that attribute or fire.

* Boy 2: Great, I can't wait until tomorrow for the practical class.

...

That conversation... it's good that you heard it, while the commotion it causes is intense, making you pay no attention to the janitor and focus on the instructor to come.

I don't like to be the center of attention, especially for these young people, because I don't think I'm some role model, it's good to admire someone, but when that admiration turns into fanaticism, that's dangerous.

Anyway, I have to avoid making eye contact with any student to avoid being recognized, and I can finish my work calmly.

...

As I'm cleaning up, I keep listening to the story of my fight against the Ent of the forest, which makes the story spread out pretty fast.

After a long time, I finally finished cleaning the first building. At the same time, cleaning, I also tried to look for the library, but when I passed by the entrance and saw the division of the building, I found out that the library is on the second floor. It looked like I would have to ask permission to go there.

Okay, for now, let's focus on work. I still have to clean the other building. Come on. Time is still running.
