Chapter 25: Dryad Village

Chapter 25: Dryad Village

Henry leapt towards one of the dryads, ready to attack her. However, vines emerged from the ground, trapping him in place.

'Shit.' Henry tried to cut the vines, but they regrew in second.

"Blaze" One of the members of the Demon Hunter Corps, a male fire mage named Jan, burned the vines.

Seizing the chance, Henry landed and leaped quickly.

"Asura's Wrath Sword Technique, Second form: Asura's Charge!" Henry flew forwards extremely quickly and pierced the dryad's body with Dawnbringer, causing the dryad to combust.

You have slain 1 Demonic Dryad. You have gained 50 Demon Slaying Energy Exp. Current: lvl 9, 480/500 Exp. You have also gained 5 Darkness Points.

Henry landed on the now unoccupied ground.

"Thanks, Jan" He saw Jan struggling, so he decided to help.

'Let's try this.' Henry pulled out his gun and imbued his energy into the bullet. He had learned the principle for imbuing aura into projectiles from Joseph while he was teaching him aura shaping. He shot at the dryad's head.

You have wielded a gun in battle. Congratulations, you are now a Gun Novice. Current: Beginner Tier Gun Novice, 0/10 Exp.

The bullet flew into the dryad's body. Henry had aimed at the head, but he missed. Fortunately, this stunned the dryad enough for Jan to burn him with fire magic.

You have slain 1 Demonic Dryad. You have gained 50 Demon Slaying Energy Exp. Level Up! Current: lvl 10, 30/1000 Exp. You have also gained 5 Darkness Points.

Congratulations! Your Demon Slaying Energy is now equivalent to 2-star aura.

'Good, it seems assists still count as kills.'

Henry and Jan ran towards Joseph, who was fighting three dryads on his own. Jan cast ring of fire around them, protecting them from vine entanglements.

Jan shot a fire bullet at the dryad Joseph was fighting at close range, giving him enough time to make some distance and join Henry and Jan in the circle of flames.

"Thanks. I wanna shoot them but whenever I shoot one, the others block it with their vines. Hellwalker, you go act as a distraction while Jan and I charge our hits."

"Ugh, alright." Henry leapt out of the ring.

'Hooh! Now that's a jump. It's good to finally have some of my aura back.'

The dryads approached Henry with their vines as to tie him up.

'Severin Empire Military Swordsmanship, Fourth Form: Cyclic Slash'

He cut up all the vines, his improved aura finally making him fast enough to cut them midair.

"Come here." Henry took the opportunity while they were regrowing their vines to leave a trace of Demon Slaying Energy on each of them.

"Demon Slaying Energy: Purging Chain Lightning!"

Henry had deliberately put in a very low amount of Demon Slaying Energy, so the lightning only stunned the dryads. However, that was enough.

"Duck!"

Henry heard Jan's voice and immediately pushed himself down, creating a small crater. He then watched as three fire charged arrows each flew into the head of a dryad, killing all three.

You have slain 3 Demonic Dryads. You have gained 150 Demon Slaying Energy Exp. Level Up! Current: lvl 10, 180/1000 Exp. You have also gained 15 Darkness Points.

"Phew." Henry looked around the battlefield. Most of the dryads were dead by now, mostly by Captain Eve's hands. Her large amount of Holy Energy burned the dryads into cinders if they so much as touched her with their vines, which as he had seen himself, was their favorite move. He was feeling quite tired, so he decided to leave the rest to everyone else and went into Jan's ring, where Jan and Joseph were sniping all the remaining dryads.

A few minutes later, the demonic dryads were all dead.

"Good job, everyone. Let's rest."

The team set up a campfire with some Peneris Grass they had gathered back in the plain. They all sat in a circle and ate.

"So, Captain, why'd the trumpet send us here in the 72nd region? Do you get to choose while using it or something?" Henry was quite curious.

"No, it's just that the regions of Hell are ranked by the amount of demonic energy they contain, and demonic energy intercepts/weakens Holy Energy. Thus, the region that's the easiest and least Holy Energy consuming to enter with the trumpet is Mephilis."

"I see."

"By the way, I saw you had a MagiTech gun. Not a bad choice for a secondary weapon, but you need to train your aim. Once you reach the intermediate tier, you'll skip straight to squire level, as you already know about mana imbuing."

"I know. I'll try to train it in our battles." Henry had already guessed what Eve said. He was taught in the military that beginner tier in any level was training pure skill, while intermediate tier was learning the basic principle behind the next level's ability, and the advanced tier was training an embryonic form of said ability. He already had both the principle and a matured, not embryonic, form of the abilities of squire and knight level, so he only had to go through the beginner tier of each level. Of course, he actually planned to save up and buy the experience crystal, saving him time and avoiding the risk of training in battle. Null's Shop still had six days before refreshing, and at the current rate, those would be enough to save up the 500 Darkness Points needed for the crystal.

Soon, their rest was over. They gave mana potions to those who needed them and discussed their future plans. According to Captain Eve, the plan for today was to get inside Andromalia and start a fire at the crop storage. Then, they'd split for the remaining days and spread more chaos until they force Andromalius to come out of his hiding and take the artifact he stole. Of course, Eve made sure to make it clear that their goal was not to kill Andromalius, just steal the artifact and leave.

"Does anybody have any more questions?"

"No, Captain" They all shouted in unison.

"Alright, tonight, we storm Andromalia!"
