Vol 2. Ch4

I stood face-to-face with the dilophosaurus, the creature was a theropod, it was bipedal and had an S-shaped neck. It had a somewhat muscular but slim build.

I immediately knew that the dilophosaurus was a girl due its coloration of the body being yellow with black spots similar to that of a cheetah or a leopard, and its dual head crests didn't share the black spots but they were bright red.

The boys didn't have the girl’s yellow cheetah pattern with brown spots and red crests. The boys have a lime green body, while their crests maintain the lime green but have black striped pattern.

Why do I know this many details? I simply open up the official encyclopedia that comes with the game for players and read it for 2 hours a day during my free time.

The other main sign this was a girl was height due to the boys being way smaller by at least half the size of the girl. Boys tended to be 4 to 5 feet tall while girls were usually 6 to 7 feet tall.

And upon knowing all of these minor details, It was needless to say I was in for a world of serious trouble tonight.

Dilophosaurus is a genus of theropod dinosaurs that lived in what is now North America during the Early Jurassic, about 186 million years ago. Three skeletons were discovered in northern Arizona in 1940, and the two best preserved were collected in 1942.

It was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs of the Early Jurassic Period. Dilophosaurus gets its name from the two thin crests of bone on the top of its head. These were probably used as a display for courtship purposes.

As a more primitive predatory dinosaur, Dilophosaurus didn't have forward-facing eyes to give it stereo vision. It may have used scent as an integral part of its hunting technique. It had long and slender, rear-curving teeth in long jaws and strong front arms which would have been effective in grabbing prey.

It was fast - probably with a top speed of about 30 mph. Footprints attributed to Dilophosaurus appear in groups, so it may have hunted in small packs. It shares the same overall body configuration as Coelophysis even though Dilophosaurus is currently classified as a member of a different group of theropods rather than Coelophysis and its relatives.

Unlike the real-life dilophosaurus, the Kyoryu Online version has venom glands around the inner part of its mouth where it spits out venom that was said to afflict its target with blindness and a corrosive pain.

The boy variant has frills that go down on the side of its neck similar to a grilled lizard. But unlike the frilled lizard that when aggressive only raises the frills on its neck, the dilophosaurus frills will rise up and rattle very loudly to intimidate and threaten its prey, an extra detail I forgot to mention was that the dinosaur doesn’t need to raise and rattle its frills in order to spit venom at their prey.

“Easy there girl,” I spoke sternly while maintaining eye contact, and making sure the creature didn't leave my line of sight.

The dilophosaurus had curiosity in its eyes as it started approaching me. I held a torch on one hand and my longsword on the other.

“...” I maintained eye contact while slowly backing away, because the creature was also slowly approaching me and I wasn't gonna be on the receiving end of a blinding venom spit.

The last time I stood face to face with a carnivore this large was the Neovenator that Haruka and I saved from the poachers that Diego had as lackeys, and when I got mauled to death by the Bastard's pet Utahraptor.

I could feel my hands trembling while backing away, the dinosaur was slowly picking up it's pace… I had no choice but to run!

As if by instinct I quickly threw the torch I had in one of my hands towards the general direction of the dinosaur and I quickly did a dash away from it.

I heard the creature’s aggressive screech as I ran away into the thick forests.

“Senko, if you're near my area please Get over here this instant!” I sent it to Senko through the chat system. I didn't have enough time to chew him out for not coming with me, otherwise the materials I gathered would be wasted if I slowed down and let the dilophosaurus catch up!

While I ran I started slowly seeing what looked like light outside the forest! That was our campsite! I quickly ran out of the first and saw the campsite was trashed.

“Senko… where did you run off to?” I muttered in distress.

Our tent was relatively okay but it had several scratch marks and was stained with some type of ooze, the bonfire was still high but our other equipment was trashed into pieces.

I quickly heard a notification from the chat system and it was Senko, he told me he ran into the forest because several crested dinosaurs started approaching him.

I responded by telling him head back to meadow mosaic, this wilderness area is too dangerous even as a team!

That's when I Realized this area was too dangerous for both of us! I suddenly heard a loud hiss from behind which made me immediately turn around and the dilophosaurus from earlier was behind me!

The dinosaur immediately whipped its neck back and spat out a black grimy liquid, to which I instinctively ducked under.

“Jeez, can't a boy talk to his best friend in peace…” I drew my hand gun and was about to shoot the dinosaur but…

The tent suddenly shuffled around from behind me and out came a duo of lime green colored dilophosaurus. Their frills started rising and created a menacing rattling noise.

Just like this I was cornered by a trio of bloodlusted theropods.

“Yuuki this place is not safe, let's get outta here!” I heard Senko shouting from the forest.

I quickly shouted back that I was back at camp! That's when the yellow dilophosaurus lunged at me and I slid to its left and shot 3 rounds from my handgun!

The dinosaur was distressed but it didn't back down. Both of the green dilophosaurus whipped their neck back and spat out venom, which I blocked with my arms to protect my face!

“Gggaaggghh!” I held back the urge to scream.

The pain was excruciating! It was like I was melting to my bones. I really needed to escape this situation quickly!

I heard rustling from the forest behind me and there, Senko ran out with another three green dilophosaurus behind him.

“Senko over here!” I shouted at him to which he ran towards my location.

We stood back to back from each other as we were surrounded on all sides, we had to escape this as soon as we could. Unlike the herrerasaurus infestation from before, dilophosaurus is a different breed of danger, because they hunted in the dark and exploited the prey’s low visibility!

“How do we get out of here…?” I questioned.

“On a count of three I need you to fuck down and run straight to the yellow one and slide under it!” Senko demanded

“Don't start playing a hero here! We're in this together!” I snapped back!

One of the green dilophosaurus in my direction spat a venom towards us to which we both stood away from.

“I have a plan! So we need to cooperate! I have one of the firecrackers from town earlier! Let's use them to escape.”

Now that Senko mentioned it! Carnivores are very shy animals, the moment you fight back they tended to back off, but they had the numbers advantage in this situation so even if we do fight back we must run quickly.

“This better work out Senko!”

“It will!”

Senko handed me a few firecrackers, the dilophosaurus inched closer to us and as we lit the firecrackers with our torches we threw them in their direction, causing a fairly loud cracking noises that also created a lot of smoke.

“Run now!” Senko grabbed my hand and we made a break for it as the dilophosaurus shattered away.

We didn't look back at all! We kept running and running away from that area until we were sure to be way past meadow mosaic and into gentle expanse!

We mustered whatever stamina we had and ran up to the stone bridge of our main town.

Even after running all the way back, we never felt safe, we both scanned the area and we didn't detect any nearby carnivores, We didn't want to risk it and headed into town and back to our inn’s room.

“What happened back at camp?” I asked while catching my breath.

“While you headed for the firewood, I saw several glowing eyes, I got my bow ready but there were three of them, I didn't risk it and ran for the forest to find you, that's when I found out that forest was those dinosaurs' home and we trespassed.” Senko replied back.

“Maybe next time we gotta bring Kana to support us.” I suggested while putting the fire wood I had in my inventory to the auction system.

“I agree haha

!”

“Senko….”

“Yes Yuuki?”

“Remind me to never go anywhere with you alone next time.”

“That's my line!”
