Sakura Haruka-Senpai: “Hey Yuuki, are you free for tomorrow? The club needs every member tomorrow to discuss what to do for the Cultural festival, please reply quickly when you can. Don't forget to remind Senko-kun alright?”
Yuuki Rin: “Yes, I'm not busy tomorrow, what time should Senko and I go to the club room for the meeting?”
Sakura Haruka-Senpai: “The meeting itself is Scheduled at 2:30 PM, so it's best that Yuuki-Kun and Senko-San get there around 1:40 to 2:00 pm, is that a bad time for you two?”
Yuuki Rin: “Not at all, I'll be sure to tell Senko about the meeting, and get there early for Senpai’s sake.
Sakura Haruka-Senpai: “Glad to hear that Yuuki-Kun is still very reliable! Well I gotta go now, Schedules got strict lately, See you tomorrow.”
I stopped responding after that and left it on read, these announcements are usually sent on our group chats, so If Haruka-Senpai is the one directly messaging me about this unexpected club meeting then the preparations for the cultural festival might be too strict to just be announced in the group chat.
You'd wonder why I'm calling her Senpai instead of just her name, But before starting highschool we agreed to address each other with proper honorifics. Senko, Kana and I are all freshmen so that rule didn't necessarily applied to the three of us but we had to address Haruka as “Haruka-Senpai” as it might cause trouble for all four of us, it could make people believe we don't show respect to our seniors and it might make her look bad to her peers to simply address her without honorifics, due to making it seem like she's letting her Kohais disrespect her.
I quickly grabbed my phone and texted Senko to tell him about what Haruka-Senpai asked for me to do.
“Senko, Haruka-Senpai has sent me a text message about the upcoming cultural festival”
“Did she ask you out on a date together at the cultural festival?”
“No!!! Of course not!
“Is it that both of you are gonna sneak off to go on a date while the club meeting is going on?
“As favorable as an outcome that is for me, Haruka-senpai of all people wouldn't even consider me a potential love interest!
“And here we go with the self-loathing talk from this afternoon!
We're getting off topic! It's about an emergency club meeting. It's around 2:00 pm tomorrow so don't be late.
“That's it?”
“yeah why?
“Then let's go there together after lunch time then?”
“Sure.”
I placed my phone down on my lap, took a deep breath, and tried to gather my thoughts.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Geez… where does he get off teasing me about Haruka like that!?
Even though Senko might come off as a rude jokester, he's actually one of the most loyal friends I know. Back in middle school he always had my back, whenever one of us got into a scuffle with other students, we always jumped in to support each other no question asked.
He was basically like my brother from another mother if that made any sense whatsoever.
°°°
The next day, Senko texted me that I shouldn't wait for him at the cafeteria nor wait for him to get to the club room, because his recess got delayed due to excess work from his classes.
I'd call him a flaker, but it's not like I can really force the guy to tell his teacher that recess should be on time now can I? And it would just cause trouble for both of us.
With that I just headed to the cafeteria and looked around the available dishes today. The available dishes today seem to be Shiza Salad, Tater tots, Onigiri, Sushi, pork BBQ, some pizza, Miso soup, chicken wings, hamburger, tempura, and bowl of ramen.
For dessert there were Daifuku, some Yokan, Wagashi Choco-Bananas, Some Dango. And lastly for drinks there was Black tea, green tea, some oolong, iced tea, coffee jelly and latte. Talk about being sugary…
“Maybe I should just find Kana and have lunch with her instead? Though I doubt her classes are over yet.”
I ended up settling for a bowl of rice, some chicken wings with tempura and Oolong Tea.
I'm not sure how obvious this is, but I'm not exactly a “people person” which was how my sister describe me when I first entered middle school, she's not wrong in that regard I tend to prefer my own company than other people, but I always hated not having any of my actual friend's around me whenever I eat lunch, feels too lonely, especially with how many people are in the cafeteria enjoying food with their friends.
“Maybe I should just quickly eat these and head straight to the Club room,” I kept looking around for an open table before settling on one near the corner.
Hopefully nobody's gonna judge me for eating in a corner alone right?
“Thank you for the meal.”
°°°
I quietly ate my lunch and headed to the clubroom.
Our club wasn't necessarily only focused on a singular topic if anything ohr club was made from remnants of three different clubs that weren't exactly popular, those were the History club which Haruka-Senpai and her friends are part of, Filmography which I was part of and lastly… The anime club that Senko and Toda-kun were part of.
Yes people kept asking if were gonna animate the “Feith Grund Ourder Series.” We kept saying no because we're just students and not a full time studio.
Arriving at the entrance of the clubroom I checked the time on my phone, it was 1:30 pm. I was an hour early for the club meeting. I opened the door and lo and behold It was empty.
I entered the clubroom, it was fairly spacious, there were around 6 large tables that were surrounded by at least 10 chairs if we went through all the sides. There were also different decorations all over the wall that were befitting comics and other creativity oriented topics.
After entering and closing the door behind me, I sat on a chair and then placed my bag on an adjacent chair. In situations like this most people would be bored, however, I tend to save E-books on my smartphone so I can read any manga, light novel or web novel I have on my phone as long as they were saved there.
I scrolled through my phone for a bit and decided to read a web novel written by Herena Kacavasha. It was called Snow Night, a story about a young boy who planned out a massive stage for his self-destruction, however this play of his was undercut because it was stopped by his beloved fiance.
I really enjoyed this story and was itching to give it a re-read in my free time.
“I should have enough time to read three chapters right?” I started reading the E-book.
°°°
After a while of reading I heard the clubroom’s door sliding open. I didn't pay any attention to it because I was guessing it was probably a club member I wasn't that close to at least until I heard their voice.
“Good afternoon, You're here early as usual Yuuki-Kun.” it was a familiar voice.
Looking up from my phone It was Haruka-Senpai. Her voice was soft but lively, she placed her belongings on a chair across the table from mine and sat on the chair next to it.
Looking into each other's eyes, really just reinforced to me that she really is the prettiest girl on campus.
We were now sitting across from each other… Gee Destiny way to make it look like a date.
“Good afternoon Haruka-Senpai, have you had lunch yet?” I placed my phone down on the table.
Haruka-Senpai simply gave a relaxed laugh.
“I actually haven't had lunch yet, because I was planning on having it here in the clubroom. How about Yuuki-Kun, have you eaten lunch yet?
“Yes, I did have lunch already, in fact I had it before calming here.”
“Now that you mentioned it, have you been here for a while?” Haruka-Senpai gave me a curious side-eye while she played with her hair for a moment.
“Not at all I just got here, I just started reading E-books while waiting for everyone to arrive so that the meeting could start.” I scratched the back of my head for a moment.
“Well then, Thank you for being early as usual.” Haruka-Senpai took out a bento box which had a Ham and cheese sandwich, some omu-rice and some fried lotus root.
“Oh right, Haruka-Senpai, Senko told me he might be coming late since his classes aren't dismissed yet.”
“That's fine, As long as he gets here soon it shouldn't be an issue.”
“I guess you're right.”
“Mhm, Thanks for the Meal.” Haruka Senpai Clasped her hands together and whispered softly.
Haruka-Senpai started eating her lunch. I couldn't help but feel like I was Intruding on her business. Maybe it's better that I continue reading the E-book to avoid any bad events from happening.
I started reading the E-book again but I really couldn't help but have glances on Haruka-Senpai.
I know we aren't dating at all... but just hanging out together like this... I wouldn't mind staying like this all the time. I couldn't help myself but smile softly.
