Chapter 21: Argumentation

[Deathbricks underestimated how much sneaking in quotes he would need]
It’s quite boring sitting in the bus when nothing is happening. Other people are chatting happily, and my sister's been too quiet these days. Most of the time she just looks at me and smiles, I wonder why. While my brother is sleeping, Sophia was writing something in her notes. The scenery outside is just a plain white blanket everywhere. The bus’s rocking from left to right from time to time makes me sleepy while I’m quietly looking outside. I summarize the abilities that I tested until today.
1. Skyrim game magic system is no good in this world. For example, I could target myself with all non-self-target spells. Well, this is understandable. In the first-person-shooting game, players couldn’t shoot themselves while back in reality; they can. I believe I could even shoot my head with a [fire bolt] spell. Of course, I wouldn’t try that. However, I couldn’t target others with self-targeting spells.
2. My magic from Skyrim isn’t underpowered. The problem is that their inefficiency and their weak ‘spell integrity.' The existence of interference fields in this world makes them useless. I tried to use bound weapons, arrows or runes but when it came into contact with other people or monsters' interference fields, Poof! It disappears just like that. Maybe I could still use them on the environment or objects to do things like destroying the ceiling, tree or bridge.
3. I tested the healing spell on myself once when I got hit by that massive explosion, and It works perfectly. Even so, when I try them on other people or monsters, it doesn’t work at all. Maybe it has something to do with that interference field again.
4. I don’t know the extent of what these healing magics can do. If I lost an arm will my healing magic regrow it? I don’t know, and I don’t want to try.
5. Some spells don't work at all, like the clairvoyance spell for example. The biggest disappointment is the [transmute spell]. I thought I could get rich by turning iron to silver or gold. When I tried to cast it nothing happened.
6. I couldn’t learn magic by just clicking on a book anymore. I needed to read through the entire book word by word. This sucks, It’s like having to study for university again, and memorization is not my strong point. Just one spell that my brother gave me to study earlier and I could only remember a quarter of it.
7. About the knowledge and my muscle memory from the game that I have, they only know how to execute those skills, magic, and combat techniques. I don’t know any of the basics behind those things. What part of those symbols makes a [fire bolt] spell fly? I have no clue. I know I can do it but don’t know the theory behind how it works.
8. My big boobs don't obstruct my movements at all. Maybe this body’s muscle memory knows how to handle them.
9. While I know how to enchant, there are no soul gems in this world. I will try to look for a substitute, but I'm not sure if I'll find one.
10. Knowledge on smithing is limited to the games items only. Again I don’t know any of their basics, just that I can somehow do it. Why do I have to hit the iron x times to make a helmet? I have no idea. Nevertheless, in the end, If I got my hands on some ingots and a facility for smithing, I think I could craft a real sword.
11. I’ve never tried summoning any living beings, or non-living beings to this world yet. I’m afraid of what could happen. What would their attitude be? Well, it sounds too risky for me to summon any unknown beings here. I don’t want to be held responsible for them if they run amok and kill any civilians they see like when I accidentally stepped on a chicken in Skyrim.
12. The most mysterious perk I have is the speech perk. I don’t think I was any better at negotiating than I was in my past life. However, shopkeepers or people always mysteriously gave me discounts and free gifts. I wonder if this is because of the speech perk or they’re just lolicons. Meh, I think it might be both.
13. Some cheats or hidden effects from perks like the quiet casting effect on dragon shouts doesn't translate to this world. It's only made my spell quiet. Someone or something that made all this happen seemed to separate dragon shout from the magic system.
That should be all for what I’ve already tried. I haven't tried the self-buffing spells like ebony skin yet. However, I doubt they would fare well against an opponent with an interference field. The muffle and invisibility spell should work fine, but with my stealth perk, I doubt I would need to use that.
“Who discovered the ways of using magic in your world Kuro-Chan?" Sophia's question broke me out of my reverie.
“Hmm? I don't know, why? What about here then?” Bethesda Game Studios, perhaps? Though if I tell them that I don't think I can answer what would come next. So I ask to deflect the question back to her.
“I’m currently trying to write my assignment report. The origin of magic in this world has disappeared from historical documents. Some books said that the godlike being taught us, while the other books say that it was developed from magic tricks or hypnosis techniques. I thought Kuro’s world might have some answers for that question.” Sophia flipped through her notebook.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
"What?! An assignment? Do I also need to write one too?” I thought I only needed to kill some monsters and become an adventurer. School work is too much trouble, please, I don't wanna do any!
“That’s just for extra points Kuro. Sophia needs to get her adventurer license fast because of some circumstances.” My brother woke up and joined the conversation.
“Well it’s not really a secret Aunos, It’s about my family's debt. My father was addicted to gambling, and when he couldn’t pay his debt anymore, he ran away. He has left the debt to me, my mother, and my younger brother to pay it. With the money I acquired this week; We will have a lot more room to breathe. Even so, I still want to get an adventurer's license as fast as possible. I want to at least graduate at the same time as you guys. Kuro you are very lucky that you get to start at school in class 2B. I was only in class 2D when I joined.” … I thought Sophia was a noble girl. Maybe she was before her trashy father wasted all their money.
“By the way, I'm curious Kuro. You seem to have some scientific knowledge. You appear to know some things about biology, chemistry, electricity, and physics. Despite that, your spells are so primitive. Why is that?” My brother seems to be honestly curious. However, this question is difficult to answer.
“Uhmm, we don't have magic in my world, my magic is self-taught.” Both of my sentences are true to a certain extent… when considering them separately. My real word doesn’t have magic. My character also learned magic from spell books. Note to self: Don’t mention the College Of Winterhold from the game to anyone.
“So Kuro-Chan is the one who invented magic in your world?” … how can Sophia conclude like that? Wait a minute, Yes. What I said can also be understood that way. It’s better to correct those misunderstandings immediately.
“No, I found some magic books, so I learned the magic from those books.” Yup, this should be about right.
“Oh~, then where did you find those books, Kuro-Chan?" Sophia's next question made my brain run like a hamster in a wheel. How should I answer this question? I couldn’t say I bought them from a mage because I just said that magic doesn’t exist in my world. Let’s see, from the general store? No. In someone's house, I broke into? No. I got them from a random guy I killed on the road? Hell, no. Oh, let’s try this.
“I found them in some ancient ruins.” This should be believable right?
“What kind of ruins were they? What do they look like? Who made-.” Sophia started asking a bunch of difficult questions again.
“I don’t know. It was just very old and had a lot of traps and walking skeletons. By the way, why aren't those guys who were intimidating you on this bus anymore?” I try to change the subject. If they ask more questions, I might let something slip out.
“Huh? Oh, you mean the Schulz brothers team? I found records of them dealing with those bandits we killed. Those records came from the [cybernetic eyes] you picked up and some [cybernetic brain] I salvaged from the last bandit battle. I sent those records to the school’s staff. Right now they should be answering a lot of questions.” My brother smiled menacingly. Well, good for you brother. It doesn't like I care much. I am happy as the questions about my past life stopped, so I smiled.
Some students also came to talk with us along the way. I also talked some with them. I think my social abilities have improved significantly since arriving in this world. I believe that they've been growing at a faster rate than my energy capacity. When we reached the city, the bus began to slow down and let some of the students out. Some of them waved their hands at us while leaving the bus. I also said my goodbye to some familiar faces. The cold fresh air that came from the open door made me feel more energized.
“See you next week, Sophia.” I waved to my first friend from this world when we arrived at the bus stop closest to my house. She’s not bad; I think. If I ignore her strange obsession, I think I can be on friendly terms with her.
It’s almost twilight while we walk back from the bus stop. I noticed the boy that tried to hit me with a snowball when I walked past this area last time. This time, he came with his friends, so he's not a lonely boy after all. However, they look suspicious. It’s like they're trying to ambush me. Well, they are just children, so their technique is quite poor. I could notice them from miles away. I told my siblings, but they just chuckled.
We have to walk past them anyway to return to my house, so I walk past them carefully. As I expected, when we walked past their hiding spot they sprang out and threw their snowballs at us… at me to be precise. However, their precision is what they lack. Some of the snowballs were thrown widely and flew to my siblings but my sister easily danced out of the way, and my brother side steps elegantly. For me, it’s not difficult to avoid those lack of direction of the snowballs, but it’s not good to let those children go after they just ambushed some random pedestrians they don’t know. So I catch some of the flying snowballs and throw them back at their faces.
“Pff! Wahhh! She's too strong!” A little girl was complaining.
“See? As I said she's invincible!” Another little boy I saw before on my way to school was bragging for some reason.
“Oi! You! Come play with us!” The biggest boy in their group orders me haughtily.
“Come back before dinner, Kuro-Chan~!" “Pfft, Have fun.” My siblings don't help at all. And I saw you are laughing at me, brother! Oi! Don’t walk away without me, you traitors!
“I don’t want to, I’m already a high-school student." Well, I’m older than that. However, right now this is my current status quo. I don’t want to degrade myself further than that by playing with these children.
“Liar! At best, you are only a few years older than us.” “Yeah, come play with us, It's fun!” “Please~?” These children are obstinately blocking my way. Even so, I have more important things to do, buying toys and tools for nighttime activities, for example.
“Yeah! Yeah! Because you are still a kid like us you should play with us, big-sister.” This big boy is annoying me. Children this, children that. I’m really disturbed. Do I look like a child to you? Oh well, I’m now in a loli body. But my D cups should indicate my age right? I'm 30-years old for Pete's sake! I need to tell them something more tangible…
“I am grown up! I've already had my first period!” I confidently told them off.
