Chapter 102: Premonition

“Hmmm...” I tiptoed to wipe the fog off the mirror as I brush my teeth, feeling that something wasn’t right.
This time it was a strange feeling in my guts, but clearly different from usual food poisoning. It felt like a happy time, falling from a height, and a day before I was having a period at the same time.
Let’s think about it scientifically. Since my period had just ended, this shouldn’t be another beginning of my bloody cycle.
And since this wasn’t a period, wasn’t diarrhea. Then, it could only mean… I’m pregnant.
.
.
.
“Ahhh, how can I come up with that conclusion.” I banged my head on the sink.
Maybe I just hadn’t fully woken up yet. There was no way a girl could get pregnant from only masturbation, right? Any healthy highschool boy should know that one can’t get pregnant with only sex toys.
I nodded to my perfect logic and placed my toothbrush back to its cup.
“Is there something wrong?” Barbara opened the bathroom door to check with Skynet in her arm.
“Nothing. So, what are you having Skynet do this time?” I changed the subject. There is no way that I would tell my niece that I mistook something else as me being pregnant.
“I’m having Skynet check my essay about fundamental magic theory. It’s a highschool homework thing.” She added after I looked at her confused. I kept forgetting that magic was a thing in this world’s school.
“Barbara’s getting some fresh insight about it. She mentioned in her work that the universe itself is magic. And her preliminary calculations seem to be correct.” Skynet added.
“I got this idea when the professor said that the magic intensity increased when the magic formula conforms to natural phenomena.” Barbara proudly said.
“As I said, it’s only a preliminary calculation. There is still a lot more research needed in that for it to be conclusive.”
“Yeah yeah, but if I’m right, that means we are living in someone’s grand magic all along. And with this, we might get closer to answering everything in the universe!” She triumphantly raised her fist into the air.
[Hey, Skynet. Is there something in her essay that mentions anything about a strange feeling in the stomach?] I secretly checked.
[No, why do you ask?] Skynet seemed to be confused.
[Nothing… I was checking how close she was.] But from what I saw, she was still very far away.
“A-Anyhow, why can’t you have your own computation device check your homework?” I pulled Skynet back from her. Hoping that she didn’t ruin my porn- homework downloads.
“Ehm, Bryan said he can’t. And he told me to get his sister.” She dejectedly looked out of the bathroom door. Well, her computation device was lower speced than mine due to the lighter power requirement, but I never thought that it would be that bad.
“Bryan is still young. He’s still feeble in that area.” Skynet consoled, but for some reason, I felt that there was smugness in her voice.
We finished our morning preparations and the breakfast that Cocoa had prepared for us. The nine tail fox maid went jogging very early this day. She said that she wanted to prepare herself for this weekend hiking.
… Maybe the weird feeling in my gut was telling me that there was something wrong with this? Cocoa looked like she was sneakily doing something before she went out after all. And why does she need that green pencil box for jogging?
“Hey, Kuro. Ms. Fluffy’s acting weird.” Barbara interrupted my train of thought.
“Hmm, isn't she this energetic in the morning?” I compared her behavior with a cat on earth. Usually, they would be most energetic during the twilight.
“Yeah… but she’s doing it more than usual. Look, instead of claws on the scratching post, it looks like she wants to destroy it instead.” Barbara pointed at a scene of a fluffy marshmallow hugging, biting and kicking the scratching post.
“Were you feeding her something weird?” I checked.
“It’s only one meat slab from the fridge.” … Wasn’t that meat from dungeon monsters? Cocoa said that it was very expensive, but from how Ms. Fluffy is acting, maybe it was poisonous.
“Maybe we should bring her to a vet-” I worriedly look at the Flying snow leopard, but a loud siren suddenly rang.
“What is it?” Barbara stood up.
“A fire alarm?” It was my first guess as I focused my senses on my hearing and picked up several people in the next room beginning to stir. There were also several loud footsteps indicating that some people began to run downstairs.
Barbara was fast to act and began to grab Ms. Fluffy while I reflexively stored big and expensive things, like the fridge for example.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
“Monsters are coming to attack the city, mistress.” Skynet notified the news at the same time that I peeked out of the window and noticed several people began to run on the street.
“Playing morning news.” Skynet said. Then her voice changed to that of a middle-aged man.
“A large group of monsters is heading to the Bluebell academic city. Citizens are advised to find shelter and prepare for combat… We just got a report from the front line. The monsters are led by several class A monsters. The military is doing their best to stop them.” If I remember correctly, the class A monsters are bad news. My brother said some of them might be even stronger than the giant troll that I fought. And if they came in a group…
“We are safe here, right? Maybe if we stay under the table...” Barbara acted like it was an earthquake.
“We need to run!” I yelled. From my experience, this kind of monsters could level this building. I grabbed my niece’s hand and pulled her out from under the table.
I told Barbara to pick Ms. Fluffy up and quickly swept the room, expensive items first.
[Skynet where is Cocoa!?] I asked while waiting for Barbara to put on her shoes.
[She said that she was already next to shelter number seven. It’s nine kilometers away. I advise not to go there.] Skynet replied. Then she brought up a navigation window in my vision pointing me to shelter number nine instead.
… Shelter number seven? I checked the map... Wasn’t that 20 kilometers away? How come my maid ran that far? Did she intend to race us to the top of the mountain this weekend?
Anyways, since she was too far from us. I had to give up on following her, bringing Barbara there would only increase our risk. Also, with all the equipment that I gave her, she should be able to survive some small skirmishes.
We decided to go where Barbara suggested and sprint out of the room. The cold morning air brushed past us as we moved along the curving balcony hallway. The sky was so clear, and there were no monsters on the street yet. If the alarm wasn’t sounding and the people outside weren’t panicking so much, it would be just another beautiful day.
“Move in order! Do not push!” A woman in a black uniform stood next to the stairs yelled while waving her hand at us.
Her uniform was different from the police but I didn’t inspect it that much as there were several dark shapes that just sped across the blue sky which seemed to be attack planes flying in formation.
The military seems to have gone all out.
I counted the sound of supersonic booms as I was running down the stairs and equipping my battle gear at the same time. There seemed to be around fifty of those flying things. A group of girls a staircase below us also yelling and pointing at them. They said something like, ‘Elites, the elites’... I wanted to check with Skynet about their meaning, but suddenly the earth began to shake accompanied by a very loud boom.
“Ah!” Barbara lost her balance and fell, but I caught her just in time.
“Are you alright?” I yelled.
“I’m okay. Fluffy, scarf mode.” Barbara replied while moving her index finger about. And Ms. Fluffy climbed out of her embrace and began circling around her neck. Seeing it like this, her training was quite useful.
We easily maneuvered along the street as people seemed to move in one direction. Also, the road was big enough that we spread out to have a gap between three to five meters away from each group.
“Skynet, can you speed up Barbara?” I asked as I noticed that some people were running faster than they should. Maybe there was some kind of sorcery in play.
“Bryan already did that with a gravity manipulation spell.” She answered while the booming and ground shaking became more intense. I was debating in my mind about princess carrying my niece. But with Ms. Fluffy on her, it would be me running while unable to see the road and that could be dangerous-
“Get down!” Someone yelled, and I reflexively looked up to the sky.
It was a large black and round thing zooming across the sky which then hit the building nearby with a loud bang. The roof shattered from the force of the impact and sent deadly rocks and pebbles flying in all directions. Some of them even flew toward us.
At this moment, my mind began to accelerate. I noticed Barbara trying to protect me by trying to push me down. However, I took a step and stood my ground, telling Skynet to deploy her shield with a surge of my power.
The rocks and pebbles rained down on us like deadly bullets. But when they hit Skynet’s field, they slowed down and floated out, like they were slowly falling through a mass of water.
Skynet’s spell stays for a short while. As its ends, those pebbles were pushed away a bit and fell down to the ruined road, but the area three meters around me was in pristine condition.
Other groups nearby didn’t fare so well. Some were alright, but a few people got hurt. The worst one got several pebbles buried in her body and was bleeding profusely.
“Kuro, we need to run.” Barbara tried to pull me while I had a dilemma.
I could have her run before me while I save these people, but if something like this happened again along the way, I wouldn’t be able to protect her.
I could also make her stay while I heal them, but that would also put my niece at more risk.
“Medic! I need a medic!” A police officer yelled while checking the girl who took the brunt of the blast.
“I can heal!” I gritted my teeth and yelled back, pulling Barbara along.
“Thanks, Miss…” He paused a bit as he looked at me, but he continues. “She's got severe bleeding, the rock nicked several of her arteries.”
“Get them off her body.” I handed my failed mithril kitchen knife to him. “Be careful, it's sharp.” I added and began to do the work from my side, pulling rocks from her body by telekinesis spell. Some of them looked scary, and I had to check with Skynet before removing them.
From what I tested with Brie’s dad the rapist, my healing spell could restore one's body. It could even restore the internal organs. However, for some reason, it couldn’t grow out any appendices back. And the most troublesome thing was, if something stuck in the body while healing, it would stay there.
“We didn’t have that much time!” The police yelled. Luckily, his hands were still moving.
“Just get the important one and tell me when you're done!” I yelled back.
The booming and shaking seemed to be closer and closer. Sometimes, I also saw a white flash at the corner of my eyes.
“Done!” He yelled. And I immediately cast the healing spell on the victim.
Her flesh visibly restored and her bleeding quickly stopped while my Magicka drained rapidly. The policeman was flabbergasted as he looked at me… Wasn’t healing spell normal here? I wanted to check but the girl began to stir.
“Mnnn-” She moaned as a faint healthy pink shade began to appear on her cheek, but her facial expression rapidly twitches and began to convulse in pain.
… It seemed we didn’t remove all the rocks.
Anyways, I took my knife back from the policeman and told him to take the girl to the shelter. From the look of things, it would be a lot safer for everyone to have a doctor there looking at her.
Then I moved on to another victim with a broken leg.
“Stay still, this will hurt!” I yelled at the girl who was lying on the street, holding her friend's hand in pain. Then I immediately twisted her feet, trying to get it back into the right position before casting the spell.
“Ahh!!” The girl flopped around while her friend and Barbara hold her down. After a few seconds, her leg went back to normal.
“Let’s go.” I helped the girl stand and pulled Barbara to run. There were a few more people who got hurt, but those weren’t life-threatening. So, I left them alone.
Anyways, we arrived at the shelter a few minutes later, and we were welcomed by a group of officers in a white dress giving us a warm drink and a blanket while asking who we are.
We showed them our ID cards and they arranged for us to sit in a small corner. However, as I was putting my ass down and began to sip the hot chocolate. The same policeman came out from nowhere and pointed at me.
“Hey! That girl can heal.” … For some reason, I had a bad feeling about this.
