With a resounding bang, Felix's body hit the polished hardwood floor of the Dojo. "Ouch!" he exclaimed, rubbing his head where he had landed. His sparring partner and friend, Reggie, stood above him with a smirk. "Oh, come on, I did not hit you that hard," Reggie said with a chuckle. But Felix's vision was still blurry from the impact. "That is enough for today," Sensei Aldo interjected sternly, putting an end to their training session.
"Ok, Sensei," both boys replied dutifully as they bowed to each other and walked back to opposite sides of the room. As they caught their breaths and wiped away sweat, Reggie suddenly had an idea. "Hey! We should go grab a slice or something," he suggested eagerly.
But Felix shook his head. "Umm, no thanks; I have something that I need to do," he said cryptically before leaving the Dojo and heading home.
When Felix arrived home, his mother greeted him from across the hall. "How was training?" she asked with concern in her voice.
"It was all right," replied Felix nonchalantly, though his mind was preoccupied with other thoughts.
"What?" His mother questioned.
"I said it was good," Felix repeated hastily before retreating to his room.
Once safely inside his sanctuary, Felix's gaze fell upon the numerous posters adorning his walls. They were all of his favorite fighter, Neal Octavius. With admiration in his voice, Felix spoke to one particular poster hanging above his bed. "One day, I will be the best, just like you," he declared confidently.
Felix himself was only fifteen years old but already showed great potential as a martial artist. He had a round face with puffy cheekbones and a smooth round chin. His most striking feature were his greyish blue eyes which resembled those of a wolf, and were always slightly droopy. His eyebrows were short and bushy, framing his eyes in a perfect arch. His nose was long and triangular with a spiky tip, giving him a fierce look. His lips were of medium thickness, adding to the intensity of his facial features. His black hair was short but styled into sharp spikes, with two shorter strands at the front of his forehead. Today, he was wearing a bright white Gi with a white belt, the uniform of a dedicated martial artist.
As the evening progressed, the sky outside grew dark, signaling the arrival of night. But as Felix looked out the window, something caught his eye - a big, bright full moon. He couldn't help but be drawn to its beauty and power. Every time he gazed at it, his eyes would turn into a white glow. And every time, he would tell himself with determination, "I am going to be the first martial artist on the moon."
But before he could indulge in these thoughts any longer, his mother's voice brought him back to reality. "Felix, time for dinner!" she called out.
"Coming!" Felix replied, snapping out of his trance and making his way down the staircase to join his family for dinner.
As the night wore on and dinner was finished, Felix headed straight to bed. But even as he drifted off to sleep, his mind continued to churn with thoughts of training and becoming the best martial artist in the world.
. . .
Felix woke up quickly and ran downstairs for breakfast. As he entered his room, a bright pink post-it note caught his eye. It was written in his mom's neat cursive handwriting, reminding him of her long shifts at the hospital. "I'll be working late again tonight. Don't forget to put in your full effort during training. Love, Mom." He sighed and crumpled the note in his hand, feeling guilty for not being as dedicated as his mother.
The doorbell chimed, and Felix made his way to open the door. It was Reggie, as usual. "Hey man!" Reggie greeted him. "Hey," Felix replied. "I just need to grab my stuff before we head out," he added. After five minutes, Felix had his belongings and was ready to go. They walked together to Sensei Aldo's Dojo, a daily routine for them. "I have some bad news," Reggie said as they made their way there. "What is it?" Felix asked with concern. "Jared is back," Reggie revealed. "He showed up at the Dojo right after you left." "Ugh, I hate that guy," Felix groaned. "Always getting his way because of his snotty rich kid attitude."
The animosity between Felix and Jared had been brewing since third grade. Jared's constant teasing, bullying, and even physical violence towards Felix and their friend Reggie had caused deep-seated anger and fear within Felix. But despite everything, there was still a small part of him that couldn't help but feel some form of pity for Jared, who seemed to be lashing out due to his own insecurities. "I remember our first fight," Felix recalled bitterly. "He targeted my injured leg throughout the match and still bragged to his rich friends about beating me." "Yeah, it was unfair how he won that one," Reggie sympathized. "But this time, I've been training all summer specifically to beat him," Felix declared confidently. They finally arrived at the Dojo, and as soon as Felix opened the sliding door, Jared's gaze fell upon him. "Well, well, look who finally decided to show up," Jared sneered. "I was getting bored of beating up these losers in this crappy Dojo; I want a real challenge." He had hazel eyes, slick blonde hair over his ears with one strand hanging in front of his face, and a muscular physique. The only difference between him and Felix was their Gis; while Jared had a yellow Gi and a purple belt from the elite Zogohr Academy, Felix wore a plain white Gi. "A purple belt is earned through hard work at the Zogohr Academy, something you wouldn't know about," Jared taunted. "So, are you going to fight me or stand there looking lost?" "Challenge accepted!" Felix blurted out in anger and without fully thinking it through. "Are you sure this is a good idea? He's really strong," Reggie warned him. "I know, but I want to beat him so badly," Felix replied determinedly. "Your funeral," Reggie joked with a laugh. "Thanks for the moral support," Felix said sarcastically as he changed into his Gi. "Please guide me," he prayed quietly before walking towards Jared with determination in his eyes. "Ready to be defeated by my Spirit Guardian?" Jared sneered confidently. "Felix furrowed his brow and turned to Jared, the self-proclaimed expert on spiritual matters. "Wait, what exactly is a Spirit Guardian?" he asked. Jared leaned in, his eyes shining with conviction. "It's a powerful force that resides within you," he explained. "And it's up to you whether you choose to unleash it or keep it locked away." Felix couldn't help feeling skeptical, but at the same time, a small spark of curiosity ignited inside him."How do you release it?" Felix asked. "How should I know, It just does, but only good fighters can do it, and you are not a good fighter," Jared said with another smirk. "You know, let us fight so you can regret your words." Felix said. "I see your enthusiasm for your loss." Jared said. They both bowed to each other.

Jared and Felix lock eyes, their bodies coiled like springs ready to unleash their fighting prowess. Jared takes on a fierce Wyvern stance, muscles taut and eyes ablaze with determination. Felix stands in a more generic stance, but his gaze holds a hint of cunning.
The tension between the two fighters is palpable as they circle each other, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Suddenly, Jared charges forward with a powerful punch, but Felix blocks it with ease. "Hah!" Felix taunts, but his cockiness is short-lived when Jared's left foot springs up and connects with his head, sending him crashing to the ground.
"Easy," Jared scoffs as Felix struggles to get back up. "That was just luck," Felix mutters through gritted teeth. But Jared's laughter only fuels his rage.
With a cry of fury, Felix unleashes a flurry of punches, but Jared effortlessly ducks and weaves around them. Before Felix can react, Jared lands a punishing uppercut to his stomach followed by a roundhouse kick that sends him flying through the air before crashing onto the floor.
"I have better things to do than waste my time with you," Jared sneers as Felix painfully gets back up. But Felix refuses to give up and prepares himself for another round.
Feeling the adrenaline coursing through his veins, Jared summons forth his Spirit Guardian, Erik. A bright yellow light surrounds him, taking on the form of a majestic wyvern. "My aura color is yellow," Jared announces confidently. "Get ready, Erik."
"Ready!" The Spirit Guardian responds eagerly.
Without hesitation, Jared channels all of his energy into one devastating move. "Special Move Yellow Thunder Flash Strike!" he roars as a deafening wyvern screech fills the room. A blinding yellow beam shoots out from Jared's hands towards Felix who desperately tries to block it. But the force is too strong and Felix's defense shatters, sending him hurtling into the wall with a sickening thud.
As Felix lays unconscious on the ground, Jared stands triumphant, his yellow aura still pulsing around him. "I told you it was a waste of time," he mutters to himself as he turns to leave, his victory clear for all to see.
Felix woke up in the medic room at the dojo. He took a look at himself and noticed his chest and torn pants. "What happened?" he asked. "You were hit by Jared's powerful move," Reggie explained. "Where is Jared now?" Felix inquired. "He left to go somewhere," Reggie replied. "I should head home," Felix said, realizing it was time to leave. "See you tomorrow," Reggie said. "Until then!" Felix replied before rushing out of the dojo and heading home.
As he ran, Felix heard a voice telling him to go to the academy. It was on his mind all night, especially the match with Jared and the special move that had knocked him unconscious.
The next day, Felix decided to check out an old scroll shop downtown for some new moves. The door screeched as he opened it and entered the dimly lit shop, filled with candles and an old 1800's feel. A voice called out from behind the counter, asking who was there. "Just a boy named Felix," he replied. When asked about his business, Felix mentioned he was looking for martial arts special moves.
The old lady behind the counter stared at him before motioning for him to follow her to the back of the shop. There, she showed him a large selection of scrolls containing special moves. She reminded him that these could only be unlocked with a pure heart and explained that they were pre-made but he could also create his own.
A voice in Felix's head warned him not to do it, but he ignored it and picked up the Hydro Bolt scroll. However, when told it would cost twenty gold coins, he put it back and thanked the old lady before leaving with a smile on his face.
Back at home, Felix's mother greeted him and invited him to the dining room to meet someone important - Grandmaster Sensei Tom from the Kung-Fu Academy. After introducing himself, the Grandmaster offered Felix a spot at the academy. His eyes lit up and the aura around him turned white.
The Grandmaster could sense a mystical creature within Felix with great power, but only time would reveal what it truly was. "I see potential in you," he said. "Only time will tell."
"Ohhh, mom, can I please go to this academy," said Felix, his eyes shining with excitement. He bounced on the balls of his feet, eager for an answer. "Well, it is a chance for you to meet new people, and since I am always working late at night and never home, you can go," replied Felix's mom with a bittersweet smile. Felix's heart soared with joy as he jumped up in the air. Grandmaster Sensei Tom interjected, "They can come back home on holiday break if they feel like it." "Get a move on, Felix," scolded his mom playfully. "Go get packed up; the ship leaves tomorrow," she added with a hint of sadness in her voice.
"Thank you for letting me into your home; I must go now," said Grandmaster Sensei with a slight bow. "Tell him to be at the docks at 8 AM for check-ins." With that, he disappeared in a puff of smoke.
Felix's mom wiped away a stray tear as she walked towards Felix's room. "My boy has grown up to become a fighter like his father," she whispered to herself.
Felix quickly packed up all of his belongings, barely able to contain his excitement for the next day's journey. The next morning, he woke up before the sun rose and eagerly ran down the steps with his bags in tow. He gave his mom one last hug before zooming out of the house towards Reggie's place.
"Regg!" Felix yelled as he approached Reggie's door. "Aye!" came the reply from inside. "Are you going to the Academy as well?" asked Felix anxiously. "Unfortunately, No," replied Reggie with a tinge of disappointment in his voice. "I should really go to college because that is my dream."
"Ohhh," sighed Felix as he started to feel a tinge of sadness. "Here, I will help you carry your stuff to the docks," offered Reggie with a sympathetic smile.
The two boys walked in silence towards the docks, each lost in their own thoughts. As they arrived, they could hear the ship's final boarding warning echoing throughout the harbor. Both boys gave each other a quick fist bump and shared a knowing smile. "We will meet one day again; I cannot wait for that one day to come," said Felix with determination shining in his eyes.
As the ship slowly pulled away from the dock, Felix and Reggie stood side by side, waving goodbye to each other. "My name is Felix Warner, and I will do whatever it takes to win for Reggie and myself," declared Felix proudly as he stepped onto the ship.
