E92-Back Home

Logically, the Gururis didn't remember their previous lives, or it would create too many problems that the wizards didn't want to deal with. Therefore, the two creatures didn't quite understand what the young man was trying to tell them. Although the young man knew that the Gururis wouldn't understand, as a skilled butcher trained to kill from birth, Apolo occasionally needed to justify himself, so he ended up letting out the comment that had been on his mind for a while.

Gururis created from children tended to be more demanding and less submissive, so Apolo knew he had to provide them with certain human comforts, like clothing and a name. In contrast, the pink Gururis had several advantages; for example, they had much more initiative than today's Gururis and often acted on their own if they sensed a problem in their environment. On the other hand, the green Gururis, originating from lambs, followed their natural instincts, preferring to passively accept their surroundings and avoid unnecessary trouble, even if it meant that a massive problem was developing for Apolo in the given environment.

On the other hand, the reason the house had to be furnished wasn't because they originated from humans, but because of the dust released by the other creature that was necessary in the Gururis' creation process. The creature from which their dust was collected was a high-level magical creature that was usually found in the abandoned furniture of old houses. So, the pink Gururis also acquired this paranoia and felt uncomfortable when there were no furnishings to explore for a long time. This paranoia escalated to the point that the pink Gururis would become extremely aggressive and conspire to kill the owner of the house to change the situation, which was usually the magician who had created them.

Improved or current versions of Gururis were produced with a completely different creature that lived in some swamps of the empire. These creatures were not only much easier to find and therefore cheaper but also had the advantage of eliminating this paranoia and producing other issues like constantly smelling foul. Although the more modern versions lost this paranoia and replaced it with other problems that were easier for most nobles to accept.

Lastly, the aggressiveness of the Gururi towards their peers was quite different between the two races, and this was because the creatures that lived in abandoned furniture were very territorial, so they couldn't coexist with their own kind. In contrast, the swamp creature grew in very large herds, so they needed to have other creatures around them to interact with. This resulted in the pink Gururis being aggressive towards each other, while Zoe was friendly with them.

To ensure that the two pink Gururis didn't kill each other, certain conditions had to be met, which Apolo had researched in advance. This was partly why buying a pair of these creatures in ancient times cost a small fortune. The key condition was that two human twins had to be sacrificed at once. This significantly raised the price because it was very difficult to find two children with these characteristics when there were many magicians and nobles searching for them. However, in modern times, things had changed, and apparently, the demand for these children had dropped significantly over the decades. Nevertheless, despite this hostility among the pink Gururis, it was still possible to have an older Gururi with a younger one or two younger ones if they met the conditions, as the creature living in furniture naturally grew with its mother until she died, and then she inherited the furniture from her mother. Therefore, that instinctive relationship that the pink Gururis had could be simulated, as long as the other Gururi was old enough and had the skill to defend against the younger ones and the will and instinct to adopt them. But in Zoe's particular case, the will was already innate, as she wasn't a pink Gururi.

While the writer spewed this extensive lore explanation about these incredible and curious creatures, Apolo watched as the pink Gururis opened the suitcase to inspect its contents. Inside the suitcase were three sets of white robes, child-sized and identical to those Apolo wore, although the trophy, which was a white quill, was embroidered in white. The clothing was incredibly fine, and it seemed like Apolo had hired the same tailor who had made his own clothing to create these robes. Also inside the suitcase were white sandals similar to the ones Apolo wore, and finally, in addition to the sets of clothing, there was a single small cane that appeared to be made for a child to use. It was white with a gold pommel, just like Apolo's.

Upon realizing there was only one cane, the two pink Gururis fought over it, but Apolo stopped them with a couple of strikes.

—Never fight in front of my eyes! The cane belongs to Zoe, and she will have it until you two manage to learn everything from her!—Apolo shouted with anger.

With joy, Zoe picked up the little cane and looked around, not quite comprehending why the other two Gururis were staring at her with intense hatred. It seemed that if it weren't for Apolo, they would have attacked her a while ago.

—Zoe, when they try to attack you, use the cane to knock some sense into them!—Apolo instructed, looking at the green Gururi with concern.

—Yes, Master—Zoe replied, not fully understanding the command or why her new siblings would want to attack her.

Resigned to not getting the cane, the two pink Gururis approached and took the robe that seemed prettiest in their eyes and started to put on the clothes with some difficulty. Finally, only one set of clothes was left in the suitcase, so when Apolo saw that Zoe didn't have the initiative to wear it, he ordered:

—Put on the clothes just like the other two.

Following the order, Zoe, who was more experienced than the other two Gururis, made the clothing disappear, and when Apolo realized where it had gone, he saw that Zoe was already wearing it. The clothing was identical to what Apolo wore but white, yet there was still a slight difference: each garment had a name patch on it. Zoe's clothing patch looked improvised and not as pretty as the patches on the other two sets of white robes, which is why the pink Gururis had discarded it as their first choice. As for the clothing sets chosen by the other two Gururis, they each had a patch embroidered with two names: Aquiles and Nicolás.

—Perfect: Zoe is the green one. Aquiles is the one with the big nose and pink skin, while Nicolás is the one with small ears and pink skin,—Apolo commented as he tried to remember. The truth was that the nobleman was terrible at remembering names, so he had ordered these patches to help him with this mission—In any case, let's get moving: all three of you go to the driver's seat of one of the two carriages, and Mateo, take us back to the mansion!

—As you command!—Mateo exclaimed, trying not to cry. It had been five long and hard months living in this carriage, so the man couldn't bear the thought of enduring this "punishment" any longer. While he had become accustomed to being a driver, the truth was that he had mentally prepared himself to become the next butler, and having so many servants under his command didn't make sense for him to suffer this infernal "punishment". However, Apolo thought differently and had assigned him this task.
