E75-The Corpse

Time, always in motion, gave encouragement to the servant and the nobleman so they could finally reach their destination. After a little less than two days of walking, the two men managed to arrive at the mansion. However, judging by Mateo's deplorable state, it seemed that a part of his life had been left behind on the journey back.

When the rest of the servants noticed this, they hurried to Orrin to inform him of his son's and Apolo's arrival. The butler headed to the door to greet them and investigate the reason for the delay.

—Why did you return on foot? Where is the carriage you departed in?—Orrin asked worriedly, seeing the exhaustion on his son's face.

—They sent it flying!—Mateo shouted as he sat on the ground, utterly drained.

—Bring water and something to eat—Orrin requested from the other servants, realizing that attending to the newcomers was a priority—Why did they send it flying? Did the carriage literally fly away?

— I crossed paths with a wizard at the ministry, and he cursed the horses to explode in the middle of our journey as revenge—Apolo replied, watching as the servants brought him a pitcher of water.

—What madness! But what kind of wizard learns such a savage spell?—Orrin exclaimed, somewhat concerned—Let's hope this matter ended with a warning.

—It wasn't a warning; that lunatic nearly killed us!—Mateo responded, drinking water as if it were an elixir that extended life—Praise my ancestors for making me such a good driver; otherwise, I'd be dead!

—Were they trying to assassinate you? How should we respond, young sir?—Orrin asked, concerned about the matter—Shall I send a letter notifying your grandfather about the matter?

—Don't do anything. Everything that happened in the Ministry of Magic is cursed!—Apolo exclaimed in despair. The young man was a hundred percent sure that anything he attempted at this moment would fail; he felt that his ancestors were not on his side during this trip—Go and fill the dungeons with roses. Have all the servants say nice things to the graves every morning. I don't want any more trouble with the dead!

—As you command, sir!—Orrin exclaimed, quite satisfied with the idea. Unfortunately, the dungeons had turned into a cemetery, and there was no turning back. Now, at least the least they could do was improve the treatment of the deceased to avoid their wrath—As good news, I can tell you that we've bought a new carriage.

—Well, I like good news. I love good news. I don't want to receive bad news for the rest of the month!—Apolo responded with happiness and a hint of madness. It seemed that he was still a bit affected by what had happened.

—Actually...—Orrin began to say.

—I don't want to receive bad news!—Apolo interrupted, more concerned than angry. It seemed that something had happened in the house during that tragic day, and the last thing he needed was more problems.

—It's important that you know, my lord...—Orrin said in a low voice.

—Then say it; there's no point in hiding it—Apolo commented, observing how all the servants had somewhat teary eyes, and it seemed like a tragedy had occurred. This prompted the young noble to pray for his ancestors' help in his head, over and over again.

—I regret to inform you that while you were visiting the Ministry, Cristóbal passed away—Orrin said with sorrow—Apparently, we were the only ones he spoke to, so his body was never collected by his relatives. Or maybe he had no living relatives; the truth is, he was a very reserved person, so we don't know exactly what to do with his body.

—Who?...—Apolo asked, but quickly realized, from the servants' mournful expressions, that it must be one of his servants. The young noble could barely remember the names of Orrin and Mateo, so this "bad" news mattered very little to him. However, he knew it was better to show sorrow and join the rest of the household—Who would dare doubt his noble soul? He's surely happy, reuniting with his ancestors. I hope you've buried him in the mansion's cemetery as befits him.

—We haven't buried him yet; we didn't know if we could use the cemetery since we're not members of his family—Orrin replied sorrowfully while wiping the few tears from his eyes with a handkerchief. The rest of the servants were equally sad, suggesting that Cristóbal was quite beloved in this house.

—But don't talk nonsense; of course, you can use the cemetery!—Apolo responded immediately. His intuition told him that the dead person might be causing the problems—Not only that, if his real family hasn't cared for his body, then we'll arrange a noble burial. After all, I can't have children anymore, so you are my only family in the capital!

—Yes, it will be the best burial a servant can have!—Mateo exclaimed, adding more enthusiasm to the topic, also thinking in his head that the reason he had nearly died was probably due to this vengeful corpse.

—We are very pleased with your decision!—Orrin said with a smile.
