As Kai read the name of the class, he couldn't help but feel something well up in his chest. It was something foreign, something unknown. He didn't really know what he was feeling, so he just spoke what was on his mind.
"That name is really dumb."
Indeed it was, the name of the class just sounded like the system had grouped every important thing Kai had accomplished in his time in the forest into one single class.
His Statshfiting, Soulcery and his meeting with The Ever-changing.
The thing is though, this class was Legendary, that itself made Kai's heart rate pick up. What were the chances of being offered a Legendary class?
If this class had only been offered because of those three incredible accomplishment, then what were the chances anyone else would receive one in this class selection?
Honestly, Kai doubted anyone in another tutorial had gone through as much as he had. He couldn't help but sigh as he went over the list in his mind.
Be paired with a crazy woman, who ended up just actually being broken inside, who was more than happy to beat him up.
Tame a wolf that had tried to kill him ten seconds earlier.
Meet a God.
Nearly get killed again by an invisible man, then again by Sleepy.
Kill a man for the first time, that itself still kind of haunted him as even in the final battle, Kai had focused on killing abominations and leaving the humans to fight amongst themselves. After all, they weren't necessarily bad people, they just ended up on the wrong side of the war.
Kai just gave up there, if he were to continue going all the things he had seen or done in that forest then he would have been there all day as he was pretty sure he was about to run out of fingers to count how many times he had nearly died in the last month.
And more importantly, there was a Legendary class description to read.
What do you get when you cross a brand new class, an extinct class and an imprisoned God? Nothing good. By bringing together various different aspects, this class has been created. This class will offer the user a medium boost to the acts of Statshifting and Soulcery, improving their proficiency while simultaneously reinforcing their soul. The user will be able to tamper with souls easier than the average being, making this the perfect class for modifying souls. This class grants +5 to all stats and +35 unasigned stat points per level.
Kai's eyes scanned over the description once more after reading it the first time. Nodding his head in approval, he seemed to have made up his mind.
"This class basically just does what Statshifter does, but better. Even more so considering it also boosts my Soulcery, the tampering with souls part is kind of strange though."
Still, even with the strange wording, Kai was certain that he would pick this class. This was also the only class that had any mention of The Ever-changing, which was a relief as Kai was unsure what would happen if he were to pick a class that didn't include his master. Would he just never get to see that smug gender fluid bastard again?
Also, Kai was a little bitter than the system openly shit talked his journey so far in the first line. What's so bad about a new class, an extinct one and an imprisoned God? He's still alive, so that seemingly random mix had to be doing something right for that to happen.
Who knows, maybe Kai would just go and achieve something else for the first time so it could be added to his future class selection, maybe then the system would warrant it to be a Unique class like Statshifter.
So, after glancing through all the other options one last time to be sure, Kai made his choice.
Class - Statshifting Soulcerist of Change (Legendary) selected
Kai grinned, happy with his choice.
Then, even more notifications came in.
You have received 535 unasigned stat points
The Ever-changing has granted you a sum of XP for that wise choice
Level 31 reached
+5 to all stats
+35 unasigned stat points
And finally...
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
You have received weakened Legacy Item
Kai froze. That was a lot more notifications than he should have gotten.
The one about The Ever-changing made sense, considering it wasn't the first time they had gifted Kai XP, he was just happy that his master was proud of his choice.
The other notifications though, the ones about the large portion of unasigned stat points he had received and a weakened Legacy Item...
It was then he remembered one of the lines that was in the Statshifter class he was offered, one that he did not really pay much attention to.
Even if you do not pick this class, you will still gain a lessened version of this class along with the one you choose due to you being the originator.
So the five hundred unaisgned stat points came from the one million he was offered, and the weakened Legacy Item was just a worse version than the one he would have received if he were to pick that class.
Still, what would a Legacy Item even do? It had to be pretty useful for it to be included in a Unique rarity class, right?
Well, there was only one way to find out.
Promptly, a new line of text appeared before Kai's eyes.
Stat Bead (Unique)
A bead created for the originator of the Statshifter class. Due to the user not actually picking their originator class, a weakened version of the Legacy item has been rewarded. A large portion of the Legacy items abilities have been sealed away in order to not destroy its weakened form. More of its abilities will be unlocked as the user grows or if they find a crafter or blacksmith talented enough to repair it.
Function 1 - Store the users stats inside.
Other functions have been sealed away temporarily.
So this was what Kai had got for creating Statshifting, a pretty useless bead as he had not picked the class he had created. Sure why would he have? It seemed much worse in comparison to the one he picked, especially when he would be able to repair the Legacy item over time and as he got stronger, the only downside was that five hundred and thirty-five was a lot less than one million.
Still, the bead didn't really seem like a worthwhile reward. Obviously it wouldn't be as strong considering majority of its abilities were sealed, but it's only ability now was being able to store Kai's stats inside, but why the hell would he want to do that? That just made him weaker.
Kai sighed, slightly dissapointed, but not really considering he got five levels worth of unasigned stat points and a free item along with a strong class.
So that was class selection done. Honestly, it had taken a lot longer than Kai had expected it to. Compared to previously, all his options had changed drastically.
He had even offered a Seer class before, which Kai had even ended up becoming - kind of- with the help of his Soul Sense and strange ability to peer inside and catch a glimpse of what that being would do in the close future, but nothing of the sort had come up this time. Maybe the system just didn't believe his wonky future sight was worthy enough for a class option rather than his fusion or Statshfiting.
He was also happy that there wasn't any option with a sixty percent chance of death to do with Demons, that was also a positive.
But now, especially now that he got a whopping seventy stat points per level, Kai was stronger than ever.
Glancing at his status, Kai scrolled to his stats section to take in all he had gotten.
Stats: (717 unasigned stat points)
Strength: 204
Dexterity: 10
Constitution: 12
Mana: 109
Stamina: 35
Will: 19
Luck: 17
Yeah... Kai definitely needed to rearrange his stats. Both his Strength and Mana were incredibly high, while everything else was massively behind.
Of course, he was going to take a chunk out of his Strength and distribute it between his Dexterity, Constitution and Stamina, but honestly, his Mana was fine for now and Will and Luck... They both just seemed kind of useless.
Sure Luck was used for the command aspect of Kai's innate ability, but basically everything was a higher level than him so it was useless.
There was also the seven hundred unasigned stat points he could dip into, but there was no use doing that as he could just save them for any moment he desparately needed them.
So that was Kai's stats now, new class and all. He was proud of his choice and even prouder of his growth. Whatever awaited him at the end of these four days in the white room, he was about twenty percent sure he would be strong enough to face it.
But it's not like Kai's power ups were done yet, as he still had more notifications to get through, starting once more with this one:
Soul Core upgraded
Soul (C)
*Author Note*
Damn, this was a note I was hoping I would never have to make, but it seems I have to.
I'm burnt out.
It's not like I want to just end the story here, I really do want to finish it, its just that even though I've accumulated roughly 330,000 reads across all platforms, I'd say there's less than 100 consistent readers who have actually made it this far.
And those 100 readers are the reason I won't just give up on the story, I appreciate each and every one of you, and for that, I don't care how long it takes, I will finish this story, although I don't know if you all will actually bother finishing it because with the way I have the story planned in my mind, there's at least another 600 chapters, minimum ðŸ˜.
So while I'm not going to outright cancel the story, I am going to take it at a slower pace. The upload schedule will be Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
But do not fret! To make up for it, I'm going to be writing another story. I'm aware that it's the first 50 chapters that made people not want to continue this story, so I want to work on another one that hopefully people will continue to read and engage with.
And that is where this Author Note comes in. The new story in question is gonna be MC gets trapped in their novel, but with a little twist.
However, I want to make sure people will actually like the MC early on, so there will be a poll at the end of this chapter with 2 options.
1. A male MC.
2. A male MC turned female. This is the one I would rather write as I already have a pretty good plot in mind, and I would find it easier to write, plus it would personally be more enjoyable to write.
For now, the schedule will remain the same, and I will hopefully miss less uploads. It'll be about 2 weeks before the new novel first gets published so I can create a stockpile of chapters and let this vote go on.
So, thank you, the few who have actually made it this far. I appreciate all of you, and I would appreciate it if you all vote.
So, thank you
