Come at me (53)

Wide-eyed, Kai quickly turned his head and tried to sniff out where the abomination went. While his nose was much stronger due to the effects of Wolf's senses, the stench of the dead abominations all around them was just too overbearing. It completely blocked out any way they could find the thing.

Wa'rak must have realised the same as he took a low stance, ready to react to anything that attacked him.

Only the abomination didn't.

Behind them, one of the boars fell, five deep gashes dug into its side. Its armour was completely penetrated and blue blood was pouring out of the wound.

After only a short squeal of pain, its neck was effortlessly slit open too.

Wa'rak's eyes flared with anger as he swiped in a wide arc, hoping to hit something.

He didn't, and another one of the armoured boars was killed.

A low rumble echoed through the cave, almost like it was a laugh.

The abomination was taunting them.

Enraged, Wa'rak made a dash towards the group of beasts, positioning himself in the centre of them all so he could react to any potential attack.

Kai, on the other hand, was much calmer. Watching his surroundings carefully, he tried to spot any hint about where the wendigo abomination could be.

A stag fell.

Followed by another boar.

Wa'rak was losing it at this stage, he was absolutely livid at the cowardly abomination. The wolf kept howling and barking, trying to taunt the abomination into showing itself.

It didn't, and the squirrel's neck was snapped in an instant.

The beasts were dropping like flies, and Aldred was doing nothing about it. The gray wolf was watching in silence, not even moving.

What the hell is he doing? Does he just not care?

Time was running out, Kai did not have long left in his transformation. Each second more wasted brought him closer and closer to death.

But the abomination was just too smart, too cunning, too-

Got you.

The fact that the abomination was this smart meant it had to be sentient and not just a mindless follower like the crescent moon abominations. Meaning...

It has a soul.

Activating Soul Sight, Kai saw seven souls. Six belonging to the moon beasts and Wa'rak, and since he failed to see Aldred's soul...

A single black orb floated around the tunnel. The orb was even darker than the shadows and had thin red lines throbbing on its outer layer, like veins. The orb was flying around rapidly, Kai could barely keep his eyes on it.

Still, barely meant he could track it.

Snarling, Kai lunged forward and swiped his claws in an X shape. His sharp, built in weapons hit something hard. Still, with the much higher Strength he currently had, he managed to dig them into his target.

Growling, Kai tensed his claws and held the invisible abomination in place. From the way its soul was moving, Kai could tell it was thrashing around, but Kai gritted his fangs and used every fibre of his being to keep the abomination in his grasp.

Wa'rak, seeing Kai struggle in place with nothing in front of him, quickly realised what was happening and used the abomination's lack of movement to his advantage.

Jumping towards Kai, Wa'rak snarled and swiped at the air in front of the Lycan. The arrogant wolf's attack struck true against the abomination, Kai could tell by the way Wa'rak's body bounced off something that wasn't there.

Suddenly, Kai felt a hit much stronger than it should have been land on his gut. His eyes widened as he coughed up blood through his mouth.

What the fuck!

The fact that Kai could roughly see where the abomination was while it was invisible was helpful, but it didn't help the fact that even though he knew where it was, he had absolutely no idea what it was doing.

Freeing itself from his claws, the abomination dashed away and Kai lost sight of it while he was recovering from the hit he just took.

Unable to do anything about it, Wa'rak was flung into the cave wall by the abomination. The wolf, dazed, then suffered another blow while it was standing up.

Currently out of the fight, Kai had no choice but to fight the abomination alone.

Fine then, bitch. Come at me.

Facing off the abomination, Kai looked up above its soul to where its ugly head should be. Staring it right in where its single eye should be, Kai grinned.

I see you.

Unfazed, presumably, the abomination's soul made a sharp movement forward, right towards Kai. Still grinning, Kai lifted his right arm to block the attack.

The abomination struck his left.

Doubling over once more, Kai let out a roar as he swung in a wide arc. Buying himself enough time to recover, Kai lifted his head and saw that the invisible abominations soul core was much lower now.

As if it was crouching

Mocking him.

This bitch!

The fact that he was being taunted by an invisible wendigo looking thing did not bode well with Kai. It's also only a quarter moon abomination, himself and Wa'rak would probably easily be able to kill it if it wasn't invisible.

Throwing a glance over towards Aldred, Kai spotted that the gray beast was still watching silently, unmoving.

Left to his own machinations, Kai started forming a plan in his head. If one of his best traits was giving up when he wanted to, then another would have to be the fact that he's extremely petty.

Petty enough to do anything to piss off those who annoyed him first.

While those may be two extremely contrasting traits, they are two sides of the same coin if you look at it a certain way.

... Probably

Grinning, Kai dashed towards the where the abominations soul was and tried to slash it. The abomination swiftly dodged and landed another attack on Kai's furry side, blood spurting from the wound.

Unfazed, Kai attacked again. Still, only being able to see the soul of the abomination was not that helpful. The invisible wendigo blocked Kai's attack and cut his arm, five deep claw wounds decorating his forearm.

But Kai did not give up. Attacking over and over again, Kai kept pressuring the abomination while Wa'rak also launched an attack from time to time. His health and Mana were both dropping at a rapid pace, but he did not care.

All that mattered was killing the damn abomination.

His attacks got quicker and quicker, even more precise and even more dangerous. Every failed attack meant he was one step closer to finally hitting the abomination.

Still, time was running out. Left with about a minute for his transformation, Kai desperately pursued the abomination until, finally, the effects of his plan bore fruit.

The abomination, which was constantly landing more and more attacks on the large, wolf beast, kept getting blood landing on it from every attack.

At this point, Kai had lost enough blood to decorate the abomination from head to toe, a faint humanoid form made of blood floating in the air.

Ecstatic, Kai gave a mental message to Wa'rak, telling the wolf to go all out. With their power of sight partially restored, the duo could finally fight the abomination on near-equal footing.

They were still at a disadvantage though. If the abomination figured out they could see it, it could wipe away all the blood just as easily as it spilled it.

So with three timers ticking away, Mana, Health and the abominations intelligence, Wa'rak and Kai got ready to go on an all out offensive.

Everything grew silent as Kai and Wa'rak stood side by side, eyeing up the bloody humanoid figure. It was still hard to see the abomination due to the fact that the blood blended in with the shadows surrounding them, but it was enough.

The abomination tilted its head, the blood covering it following its action. The invisible creature was seemingly confused that both wolf and half-wolf could now see it.

"Give it no time to think."

Kai dismissed Life Eater in favour of the raw destructive power his claws could offer. The blade was extremely useful fighting the weaker abominations, but Kai didn't know if it could keep up.

Both dashed towards the abomination at the same time, Wa'rak went low while Kai went high. The abomination jumped backwards, but the duo just attacked again.

Claws against claws, flesh against flesh, fangs against anything they could sink themselves into, the three rabid monstrosities fought with anything they had available to them.

The abomination got more and more worked up as more attacks landed on its invisible body. Even though Kai couldn't see it, he knew they were hurting it.

Wa'rak lunged at where the abominations neck should have been, but it caught on.

It realised it was covered in blood.

The abomination went mental. It dodged Wa'rak's attack and went crazy, bouncing off the walls and roof of the cave. Kai could only watch as more and more of the blood he so painfully spilled to mark the abomination peeled off its body.

The sight of the abomination's soul flying throughout the cave creeped Kai out. The speed at which it bounced off of everything was too quick to keep up with-

Beside him, the image of a pitch-black wolf dissapeared, quickly appearing beside where the abomination just was.

Wa'rak bounced off of the walls right behind the invisible abomination. The wolf was moving even quicker than the abomination, slowly catching up to the pace it had built.

Every time Wa'rak's paws touched a surface, they seemed to hit it twice at once, giving the wolf even more momentum than he should have got.

Finally, after about seven seconds of watching the most intense game of tag ever, Kai watched Wa'rak land on the abominations invisible back and smash it into the cave floor.

Still, the damage was done. Only a small percentage of the blood which covered the abomination remained, meaning Kai was back to not being able to see its powerful attacks properly.

A cry echoed through the cave as Wa'rak was sent flying off the abomination by something, Kai not being able to tell from the lack of blood.

Getting ready to defend himself, Kai watched the abominations soul rise higher and higher. Only once it was back at the normal height, indicating the abomination was stood up again, the invisible creature moved.

Making a mad dash for Kai, the abomination rapidly got closer and closer. Left with a fifty-fifty chance on wether it would attack his left or right, Kai lifted his right hand to get ready to block-

Only then he saw it.

Wa'rak's had unknowingly sacrificed himself for the greater good. The wolf, only just standing up, had five deep gashes on his side.

And Kai saw what caused the wound.

Five thin lines of blood were making a swing for Kai's left side.

I always did hate fifty-fifty chances.

Ignoring the fact that he got unlucky, Kai reacted quickly and dropped his right hand. Promptly lifting his left, he caught the abomination's gangly arm mid-swing and tightly gripped onto the fleshy limb.

Not letting go, Kai yanked the invisible limb towards him. With another horrid plan formed in his mind, Kai watched the soul of the abomination get closer and closer before he opened his mouth and-

Spat.

The abomination cried out as the spit hit it, mostly because the disgusting liquid landed in its eyes and decorated its face.

Why react to spit and not blood?

Madly grinning, Kai grabbed the abomination by the back of its head and squeezed. The Lycan then used his monstrous strength to drag the abomination towards the wall of the cave.

The abomination trashed around in an attempt to free itself, its claws constantly digging into every part of Kai's body. Ignoring the pain, Kai let out a ear-grating chuckle as he smashed the abomination's invisible head into the cave wall.

Then, without warning, Kai broke out into a sprint. Cries of pain echoed through the cave as the abomination's head was grated into the wall. Bits of its flesh were scraped off, a wall of abomination gore following Kai as he rapidly dashed through the cave.

More and more of the abominations face peeled off the further Kai ran down the cave, the abomination continued to scream.

Kai relished the noise.

Without realising, Kai had ran the remainder of the cave while scraping the abominations head against the wall.

Reaching the end of the wall, and with nowhere left to grate the abomination against, Kai looked down to the bastard in his hand.

The still invisible-

Oh...

The abomination's invisibility had long been deactivated, but Kai hadn't realised.

The abomination was missing half of its head from being scraped against the wall, even part of its eye was gone.

Yet it was still alive.

Growling, Kai walked over to one of the tree of the outer forest and lifted up the abomination. It fought weakly, its claws lightly scraping against Kai's muscly arm.

Letting out a small chuckle, Kai grinned as he retracted his arm and used all of his Strength stat to smash the abomination head first into the tree.

The bark cracked before the blow, while the abominations head was pulverised with the force of it. The rest of its body soon followed into the tree.

Kai watched as the abomination's body grew lifeless as it hung limply from the tree, its top half still embedded in the hard bark.

Kai looked at the body and grinned.

He had won.
