A nice meal pt2 (74)

A look of horror appeared on both Sofia and Noelle's face. Both had no idea what they had just witnessed. What the hell had they just seen?

Kai's body trembled slightly as he looked like he was about to fall over, a cloud of smoke rising from his face.

"What the fuck?!" Sofia cried out as she dashed towards Kai, meanwhile Noelle was frozen in shock.

What...?

Was he dead? No... After all that, Kai was just dead like that? He just apologised, so why was this happening? He couldn't be dead, this was all fake. It had to be.

More and more cracking and rustling came from the branches above them. Looking up, Noelle's eyes widened once more.

The space above them was decorated red as countless abominations fell from the branches, like bloody snowflakes signifying the start of the war.

But these abominations were all on a much higher branch than the one that fell on Kai, meaning they had at least two dozen seconds before anyone was in any actual trouble.

That's doesn't mean they were safe though.

Sofia stopped her dash towards Kai and inwardly cursed as she pulled out her bow. After nocking an arrow, she pulled the sting as hard as she could and let go. The arrow flew threw the air, it's power allowing it to fly undisturbed. The shot struck true, hitting the pack attached to one of the falling abominations.

*Boom*

The abomination that was struck by the arrow blew up, the arrow striking the bomb pack that was attached to its disgusting hide. That explosion caused a chain explosion with all the other abominations in close proximity and the space under the trees glowed red.

Bits of abomination started to fall, but it was only a drop in the ocean when compared to all of the other abominations that were still falling with their bombs attached to them.

Sofia cursed and drew another arrow. This time, she activated her innate ability to help her prepare and shoot the arrow quicker.

Still, all of that happened in only a few seconds.

Noelle was still shocked at what happened. Even though she wanted to do something, what could she do? She didn't have a bow like Sofia, or any type of magic like some of the moon beasts were shooting at the abominations. She just had her scimitar, so what could she-

Noelle was snapped out of her state of confusion when a terrifying roar exploded out beside her. Turning her head, for the third time so far, she was shocked with what she saw.

See, throughout their whole journey together, the only time Noelle had seen Kai use his innate ability was in their final duel in the white room. Even then, all that happened was that he lost his mind and gained some fighting proficiency.

What the hell is that?

What was beside Noelle was no longer Kai, it was now a Lycan that towered over her in size and dominated her in muscle. The cloud of smoke looming over Kai dissipated, revealing his yellow eyes. His fangs looked like they could rip anything to shreds, and his claws looked even more dangerous.

What had happened was at the last possible moment, Kai fused with Umbra. The fusion gave him a large boost to his defence and health pool, and also to his strength.

Even after having his face exploded, the explosions were basically negligible because of his insane stats.

If he were hit with an explosion back in The Dome in the first attack, he would have most certainly died. But now?

The explosion was basically negligible, he still had lots of health to spare. Still, the fur on his face was singed and his skin was burned, the pain lingered even after the explosion.

Kai looked up at the falling abominations, a look of anger in his yellow eyes.

His legs trembled slightly at the fact he nearly died another time in this dreadful forest, but Nonchalance helped keep him calm.

More and more abominations were killed before they even got the chance to land because of the joint effect of Sofia, some other human archers and some of the beasts who could use magic.

But there was still much more falling, threatening to exterminate the army then and there.

Suddenly, Kai saw an enormous ashen gray wolf jump above the army. Kai thought he knew the full extent of Aldred's size, but...

How wrong he was.

Even when Kai first saw Aldred, he was absolutely massive. The sight of a large wolf would have been enough to terrify anyone, so what if that wolf got bigger?

Aldred continued to grow in size as he soared... no, walked on the air. Kai had no idea how it worked, Aldred was actually walking on the air, rising higher and higher as he continued to get larger and larger.

It was a detail about the wolf that Kai had forgotten. The second mural in the tunnel depicted Aldred as walking on the air, but Kai just thought that he was mid jump or something. But no, Aldred was actually walking on air.

By now, Aldred was much bigger than a truck. His body hid near half of the falling abominations, but he just continued to grow. Just as the gray wolf was about to collide with the abominations, he opened his mouth and-

Swallowed half of the descending abominations.

A deafening bang came from the wolfs stomach as some smoke made its way out from in between his fangs, but Aldred didn't react. Even when some abominations crashed into his hide, all that would happen was that his fur would singe a bit.

Kai looked up in shock at the sight. Aldred had just decimated half of the air raid by eating them. Kai had eaten abomination flesh before, so he knew how disgusting it tasted.

Yet Aldred didn't flinch at the horrible taste. Kai didn't want to imagine how many abominations the gray wolf had eaten in its lifetime.

For some reason though, Aldred didn't go after the other half of the abominations. He floated down while the abominations followed, but at a slower pace.

"We have been given a gift. Since Aldred has so kindly lessened the burden, I want everyone to attack the abominations before they land. Free XP, I cannot believe how kind the Demon is for this gift."

Failure grinned as he spoke. He stood on a wooden root that stuck high out of the ground and had his arms spread wide, striking a confident pose.

Kai sighed at the sight. Failure might have been an extremely capable warrior that's lived for who knows how long, but Kai got the feeling that he was a showman at heart.

But at the mention of free XP, every human present had a greedy smile grow on their face. The abominations in the air were defenceless. Looking at it now, the trap laid by the abominations was absolutely rubbish.

Aldred could have wiped them all out if he wanted to. Even if the trap was set to wear out the gray wolf, Aldred looked like he could easily do that forever. That attack took nothing out of him.

And even if Aldred couldn't do it, Kai was almost certain by now that Failure had many tricks up his sleeve. He wouldn't have survived this long if he hadn't. And based off of Failure's character, Kai knew that each trick was going to be extravagant and would not be easily forgotten.

He truly was an enigmatic showman.

Sofia turned into a robot, her arm moving rapidly in the same motion. She seemed to grow ever so slightly quicker with each arrow fired, as if she was finding a rhythm. She only missed a few out of the countless that she had fired so far, and each arrow caused the abomination to explode, which in turn caused a chain reaction.

Both John and Noelle couldn't do anything in the current situation. Kai didn't really know what John was capable of, but he was defintly more of a tank than a damage dealer. But Noelle...

All she could do was look above her with a bitter look on her face. She couldn't believe that she actually got shocked at what she saw. She may have seen many traumatic things in her time in the compound, but she had not seen anyone get blown up, that was a first.

She had her scimitar out, the blade gleaming with might. It looked as if she was internally debating about whether to throw her weapon at the falling abominations, but decided against it. Unlike Kai's Life Eater, her blade wasn't an item. It was just a regular weapon she was given at the start of the tutorial, meaning if she threw it she would have to look for it once it landed.

There was also the possibility it would be destroyed in the explosion, but who could know?

The only one who remained still was Kai, an ingenious idea sparking in his yellow eyes. He was level nineteen right now, so if he could kill some of these abominations then he would be able to get level twenty, giving him a new skill selection.

And he wanted a new skill selection.

A low rumble escaped from his throat, it was almost a laugh. Since the beginning of the attack, only about twenty seconds had passed. Aldred had killed all of the abominations that were the closest to landing, so all the ones that were left were only about halfway from where they dropped.

But Kai had no way to reach them. He didn't have a bow or any magic, he had no method capable of dealing damage.

That was only if he wanted to damage them from range though.

Grinning, he activated his telepathic connection with Wa'rak. Every time they battled together made their understanding of each other slightly better. Now, they were nearly always on the same wave length.

So all Kai needed to do was say one word into the link.

"Tree."

Then, both Kai and Wa'rak made a dash for separate trees across from each other for what was soon going to be known as one of the most incredible moments of the tutorial.
