Across the battlefield from where the main fighting was taking place, there was two beings engaged in a ferocious clash.
One was an extremely tall four armed Demon wielding three different weapons, the other a wolf that was slightly shorter yet was still not giving the Demon any openings in the brutal clash.
Whenever the Demon swung, Aldred would dodge under and swipe at its exposed chest, but the Demon would respond by blocking the attack with one of its other weapons.
Whenever Aldred tried to initiate an attack, the Demon would always try and peirce the gray wolf's hide with its rapier, but Aldred was always able to dodge at the perfect moment.
It was a terrible stalemate, neither could land a decisive blow on the other. They were the perfect match for each other, like yin and yang. Neither could win, yet neither could lose.
But with every failed attack, the aftermath of their battle affected the areas around them.
Craters appeared in the ground, shockwaves were sent far and wide, knocking over beasts, abominations and humans alike.
Aldred growled. He did not like the current situation, not one bit. Even though his and the Demon's fight was completely even, the same could not be said for the beasts and humans who rallied behind him.
The army of beasts were slowly losing. They were already lacking in numbers to begin with, but now, Aldred realised how much they had underestimated the number of abominations there actually were.
There was just too many of them. With every fallen beast or human, five or six abominations took their place. Even though crescent moon abominations were extremely weak, bottom of the barrel with their stats, useless skills and tentacles that could be ripped off by even a toddler, their numbers were just too big.
As Failure once said, a few quarter moon beasts would be able to kill a gibbous moon abominations. But it was the same the other way around, a few crescent moon abominations would be able to kill a quarter moon beasts.
Realistically, it would be dozens of abominations needed to kill a quarter moon beast, but there had to be a lot more than a dozen out their, slaughtering anything that moved without discrimination.
Even though Kai was doing an incredible job holding back a large majority of them, he was only one person. One strong person maybe, but one person's strength was not enough.
After all, no god rose to the top by themself. Everyone had to have some kind of help at some point. After all, if they didn't, they would either be dead or...
Trapped in an elaborate prison they could never escape from.
But all that didn't matter to Aldred, all that mattered was killing the foul abomination before it could kill him.
"You've grown weak."
Aldred ignored The Demon's taunts. He had long put up with them after all. Anything that abomination had said, Aldred had heard at some point before.
How many times had they fought by now? Aldred couldn't remember. It was the worst when he was younger, The Demon was constantly out for him.
Ambushes, assassinations, anything and everything that could end Aldred's life. The Demon knew that if Aldred got the chance to grow up, he would pose a massive threat.
Luckily, Failure found him and protected the young wolf. At the time, Failure was much stronger, but now...
Aldred sighed and dodged another one of The Demon's attacks.
"I have not grown weak. If anything, it is you that got weaker."
Aldred grinned as he dodged to the side and took a step, rising a few inches into the air. This was all that was needed to dodge The Demon's second attack. Aldred then aimed a swipe for the full moon abominations neck.
"After all, I was always weak. Yet I grew strong. But you... maybe destroying that precious mace of yours finally brought you down to my level."
The Demon growled and swung its axe downwards, aiming to cleave that detestable wolf in half. Aldred swiftly dodged by stepping on air and pushing himself out of the way.
They continued go blow for blow, neither one losing any momentum with any hit.
Fangs, blades, claws, anything that could be used as a weapon was used as a weapon. A battlefield was not a place where you turned down any sort of help.
Both Aldred and the Demon were not against dirty tricks. Sometimes Aldred would use dirt to momentarily blind the Demon, but the Demon would also swing its claymore wildly at times where Aldred tried to take to the sky and gain a height advantage.
On numerous occasions, Failure shot wooden tendrils at the Demon, but the tendrils did not do much. If Failure was in his prime he could probably do a lot more.
But time took a toll on everyone, even Aldred knew. Everyone got old eventually. Their bones would weaken, their reflexes would slow.

But until Aldred could physically not move anymore, he was not going to stop fighting.
But as time went on, Aldred got more and more desparate.
Not long had passed, maybe three minutes overall, but Aldred knew that this war was not going to be a long one.
It would be decided in a matter of mere minutes. Either the humans and beasts would persevere and survive to see tomorrow, or they would be drowned in the slowly dwindling tide of abominations.
And right now, it looked like it seemed like the latter would come true.
More and more beasts fell under the wave of abominations, their bodies overun by the foul tentacled creatures.
Aldred just needed one moment. One moment where the Demon messed up and he could gain momentum. If he could just get one oppurtu-
Aldred's eyes widened in shock as he caught a glimpse of something. Why it had happened, he had no idea. Even in all of their duels thus far, the Demon had never done this. This was the first time.
The Demon had grown complacent.
Even though it was only for a moment, a moment was all Aldred needed to capitalise on the Demon's momentary lapse of focus.
The Demon thrust its rapier forward, but it was such a sloppy attack that Aldred nearly believed that it was a trap.
But it wasn't, the Demon really had just done an incredibly terrible attack. Aldred was shocked. That abomination always took such care in making sure their weapons were always kept safe, they treated the blades like extensions of itself, four extra limbs on top of the four arms it already possessed.
That was why the Demon spent a hundred years hiding after Aldred destroyed one of its weapons. A mace that had the power to burden anything it hit, making them slower.
It was the worst of the abominations weapons. The rapier had the ability that anything it pierced, the wound would suffer from increased blood loss and take longer to heal.
The double headed axe had the ability that anything it severed would take longer to regenerate, if it could even regenerate at all.
And the claymore, the claymore had the ability to slightly enhance the other three weapons. Aldred did not know how it worked, but he knew that it did.
And for whatever reason, The Demon had basically given up its rapier for free.
Grinning, Aldred dodged the thrust and...
Clamped his jaws down hard on the thin blade.
Instantaneously, the rapier shattered. The blade which once caused Aldred so much trouble when he was younger, all that extra time he had to hide to spend healing, one of the four weapons that created all his problems was now destroyed.
Aldred was ecstatic. Now, two of the Demon's four weapons were destroyed. That itself was a huge boost. If before the Demon was slightly stronger then Aldred, now they were maybe perfectly equal. If he were lucky, Aldred might be a little stronger.
So why didn't The Demon react? Why were they so calm despite the fact they just lost one of the four weapons Eye of the Moon granted it when that bastard god gave that abomination the order to exterminate all the moon beasts?
Aldfed thought that the Demon would maybe retreat. Even if they did not retreat, he at least thought that the full moon abomination would show some kind of emotion.
So Aldred's expression couldn't help but darken when the Demon swapped its claymore from one of its left arms to one of its right arms. Now, the two remaining weapons were evenly spread.
Without delay, the Demon charged again. Aldred crouched and jumped to the side, but an anxious feeling couldn't help but gnaw at the old wolf's heart.
Why was The Demon fighting so differently to all the times they fought previously? It was so... lazy. It was like it had a surefire back up plan, but Aldred had caught no scent of anything in the lead up to the war.
But he just couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong.
Their battle continued to rage on. Time passed ever so slowly, yet with how quick they were moving, it felt like minutes had passed when in reality it was only seconds.
The claymore and the double axe The Demon wielded were working double, making up for the missing two weapons. The foul abominations grasped each handle with two hands, giving each attack it attempted a little more power than previously.
But even with the added power to each of its blows, the Demon felt weaker.
Aldred new that it had yet to go all out, but then again, so had he. Yet for some reason, he felt confident that if both of them went all out that he would be the one to emerge victorious.
Aldred did not like feeling confident, he knew that there was no reason for him to be confident. The Demon was much more experienced than him. It was forged for the soul purpose of the extermination of the moon beasts.
So why was Aldred feeling confident?
And only adding to the anxiety building up inside him, thirty seconds later, the Demon slipped up again.
Aldred was panicking, but he couldn't just pass up the opportunity to destroy another one of those dreadful weapons. But it felt too good to be true, The Demon had to be plotting something.
And if it was, Aldred had no choice but to enter it willingly.
After another sloppy attack, Aldred was successfully able to destroy The Demon's claymore.
After Aldred done so, he couldn't help but shiver as The Demon's entire aura changed.
The full moon abomination remained completetly still as it dropped the hilt of the claymore, the broken blade falling to the destroyed ground, ruthlessly discarded.
"Finally. It seems that my Lord had decided the weapon that he wants me to fulfill his ideals with."
What do they mean?
Aldred growled nervously. He had no idea what The Demon was going on about, but just as he was about to speak up...
He froze as his eyes widened.
The Demon's body shook as its chest burst open, tiny fleshy tentacles bursting out. The Demon did not react to any sort of pain as the tendrils started wrapping around the double headed axe, the final one of its weapons.
The fleshy substance started wrapping around the axe, coating it with itself. Aldred anxiety couldn't help but grow at the sight.
And soon, he realised why he felt that everything was off.
"My Lord. I have failed to complete your orders for so long. But you have graced us with your blessing. You have given us the luck we needed to exterminate these damned beasts.
Watch as we finally complete your original command!"
The double headed axe, which was still being wrapped around by the flesh inside the Demon's chest shimmered slightly. More and more tentacles shot out as the flesh coating the weapon got thicker and thicker.
After a few moments that felt like an eternity, The Demon's chest closed up as the flesh remained around the axe.
"Bear witness to your downfall, foul wolf."
Aldred couldn't help but shiver.
Everyone was in danger, they were all going to die. Anything with a full moon in their eye was the strongest being in this forest, unbeatable by anything below it.
Unlike how enough crescent moons could beat a quarter moon, and unlike how enough quarter moons could beat a gibbous moon, nothing could compare to a full moon abomination.
That's why Aldred knew that they had lost.
"Two... there's two..."
Whatever had come out of The Demon's chest and wrapped itself around the axe was the worst possible thing that could have happened in this war.
The double headed axe, the final weapon of the full moon abomination, the executionor that followed the orders of Eye of the Moon...
Was now a full moon abomination itself.
