Chapter 82- New York War (5)

As Mark and Kevin retreated to a nearby wall, they discussed their plan to take down Adam Steel.

"He's too strong," Mark muttered, frustration evident in his voice as he assessed their situation.

As Kevin turned to Mark, his expression serious. "The three officers who were with us earlier are helping to get the civilians to safety," he explained. Relief washed over him as he spoke.

Then he looked at Mark, their shared sense of duty evident in their faces. "It's up to us now," he emphasized, highlighting the seriousness of their task.

Then Mark turned to Kevin, his eyes determined. "That's why Sir, We need some heat," Mark suggested, his tone carrying a sense of urgency.

Kevin looked at Mark with confusion. "What do you mean, heat, Nightwing?" he asked, seeking clarification.

Mark took a moment to explain, knowing that Kevin might not be familiar with Adam's vulnerabilities. "Adam Steel can transform into a crystalline structure held together by strong atomic bonds," Mark began, his tone serious as he relayed crucial information. "When exposed to heat, these bonds weaken, making the metal more susceptible to damage. High temperatures can cause the metal to expand, leading to strain within the material. If we can raise the temperature high enough, we might be able to weaken him significantly."

Understanding dawned on Kevin's face as Mark spoke. "So, the more heat he's hit with, the weaker he becomes," Kevin summarized, grasping the strategy.

Mark nodded in agreement. "Exactly, sir. We need to exploit this weakness if we want to take him down."

Kevin reached into his pocket and pulled out a lighter, offering it to Mark. "Here, I know you'll need this for the heat," he said, handing it over.

Grateful for the assistance, Mark accepted the lighter. "Thanks, sir. Now, I just need some oil," he said, scanning their surroundings. "I saw a gas station nearby. I'll go grab some. Can you buy me some time?"

Kevin nodded, his expression serious. "I'll do my best, Nightwing. But be careful," he cautioned, concern evident in his voice.

Mark returned the nod, determination shining in his eyes. "I will, sir. Let's do this," he said before darting off towards the gas station, his mind focused on the task ahead.

As Mark hurried to the gas station, Kevin readied himself to stall Adam Steel. With his gun in hand, he took a deep breath, gearing up for the upcoming fight. "Let's make this quick," he muttered, his voice steady with resolve. Mentally preparing for the challenge, Kevin braced himself to confront the formidable opponent standing in their way.

"Where are you, you bastards!" Adam yelled as he ran towards the edge of the smoke. "That damn Night Wing threw smoke at me! I'll never forgive him!""

As Adam caught sight of Kevin, he sneered, "Where's that damn Nightwing?police Man?"

Kevin shot back defiantly, "You should be worried about me, you fatass!"

Adam's anger flared at the insult. "You bastard! Fine, before Nightwing, I'll deal with you first!"

With a swift motion, Kevin tossed a smoke bomb at Adam's feet, obscuring the area in a thick cloud of smoke. "Let's see how you handle this," he said with a smirk, readying himself for the next move.

"You may be quick, but you're not quick enough," Kevin shot back, his tone dripping with confidence despite the looming threat before him. He taunted, his voice filled with sarcasm, "Having a metal body has its drawbacks, huh? It Slows you down, doesn't it?"

Adam Steel's anger flared at Kevin's words, his metallic form trembling with rage. "You dare mock me?!" he said loudly, his voice echoing through the smoke.

But Kevin stayed cool, his focus steady as he assessed the situation. "What's wrong, Steel? Feeling a little rusty?" he quipped, a smirk playing on his lips.

Then Adam's metallic fists clenched tightly as he stepped through the smoke, his eyes scanning the area for any sign of Kevin's whereabouts. The taunts only fueled his fury, and he was dead set on making Kevin pay for his disrespect.

"You'll regret crossing me, you motherfucker!" Adam's voice boomed, echoing through the smoky air. With each step, his heavy footsteps sounded scary, making Kevin nervous.

Kevin stayed unfazed, fully aware and ready for Adam's next move. As the smoke dissipated, revealing Adam's intimidating presence drawing nearer, Kevin realized he had to act quickly.

Then Kevin's heart raced as he fired shot after shot, each bullet hitting Adam Steel's metallic body with pinpoint accuracy. But Adam's laughter, echoing through the chaos of battle, shattered Kevin's hopes. His shots were useless against this relentless foe.

"You monster!" Kevin exclaimed, his voice filled with a mixture of anger and frustration as he continued to fire.

Adam's laughter only grew louder, mocking Kevin's futile attempts. "How many times do I have to tell you? Bullets won't work on me," he taunted, his voice dripping with malice.

Then Adam said "I may not be faster just like you said, but I'm faster than you," he declared to Kevin, his words dripping with disdain.

Suddenly Adam closed the distance between them, his metal fist striking Kevin's gut with brutal force. Kevin doubled over in pain, his breath stolen from him as he collapsed to his knees.

As Kevin knelt before him, vulnerable and wounded, Adam loomed over him, his gaze filled with cruel amusement. "What are you gonna do now, police man?" Adam sneered mockingly, his words filled with disdain. "It seems like Nightwing abandoned you. Let's finish this. Bye bye, police man," he declared, raising his fist, ready to deliver the final blow.

But just as Adam prepared to deliver the final blow, a voice rang out, cutting through the tension. Kevin's gaze snapped towards the source of the sound, his eyes widening in disbelief as he saw Nightwing approaching with determination in his eyes.

........

[Mark Side]

Mark Fletcher, also known as Nightwing, appeared on the scene just in time, his eyes blazing with determination as he confronted Adam Steel.

"Not so fast, Steel!" Mark's voice rang out, defiant as he stepped forward to confront the metal mutant. Then, with a swift motion, Mark ignited both of his batons, which had been coated in oil, causing flames to burst forth.

Adam looked at Mark, a mocking smirk on his metallic face. "Even If you're using your batons as a source of heat do you think you can defeat me?" he taunted. "Doesn't it hurt you? Your gloves can't protect you from fire, idiot."

Mark's expression remained stoic, his confidence unshaken. "Stupid," he retorted calmly. "My gloves are fire-resistant, you fool."

As Mark rushed towards Adam with lightning speed, he delivered a swift blow to Adam's body, causing him to grunt in pain. "Now I can defeat you with these," Mark declared confidently.

"Shut up, you brat!" Adam retorted, raising his fist towards Mark, who quickly evaded the attack.

"You can't hit me. You might be stronger, but I'm quicker and faster," Mark countered, landing another strike on Adam's weak spot – the left side of his stomach.

Adam gritted his teeth in pain as Mark continued to exploit his vulnerabilities. Charging forward, Adam tried to strike back, but Mark skillfully evaded once again, delivering a precise strike to Adam's left leg, causing him to stagger backward. Seizing the opportunity, Mark struck Adam in the head, sending him reeling.

As Adam regained his balance, he launched another attack at Mark, then Mark quickly countered with an uppercut from his baton.

"Aurgh!" Adam cried out as he was sent flying backward.

Mark approached Adam slowly, a sense of triumph evident in his demeanor. "Your martial arts is not that strong, isnt it?" he remarked.

"So what? I'm still stronger with this body!" Adam exclaimed through gritted teeth, clutching his injured form. "And you, how are you this strong?" he demanded, his voice tinged with frustration and pain.

Mark chuckled, recalling the serum boost he had received from another hero. "Well, let's just say I got some help from another hero. He gave me something," Mark explained cryptically.

"And just so you know, heroes always win." With that, he delivered a final blow to Adam's head, targeting his other weak spot and causing him to lose consciousness.

As Mark delivered the final blow to Adam, Kevin Bridget, watching the intense battle unfold, couldn't contain his astonishment and relief. His eyes widened in awe as he witnessed Mark's remarkable agility and skill. "Damn, Night Wing you really are something!" Kevin exclaimed, his voice filled with admiration.

As Adam lay unconscious on the ground, Mark turned to Kevin with a grin. "Just doing what needs to be done," he said modestly.

Suddenly Mark's mcall device buzzed with an incoming call, he quickly glanced at the screen to see a number flashing. It was Chris. Mark's heart skipped a beat; he felt that Chris had a problem on his side.

"Sorry, Sir, but I need to handle this," Mark said, a sense of urgency in his tone. He trusted Kevin to manage the situation they were in.

"Go ahead, Night Wing. I'll take care of things here," Kevin replied, his tone firm and reassuring.

With a nod of gratitude, Mark dashed away, answering the call as he ran. Chris's voice crackled through the phone, filled with urgency and concern.

"We need backup, Mark. There's a vampire here, and she's powerful. She claims to be a princess," Chris explained quickly, the tension palpable even through the phone.

Mark's mind raced. "What about Michael?" he asked, hoping for some reassurance.

"Michael's tied up. He's dealing with the leader behind all of this chaos. He'll join us as soon as he can. Our location is near the new downtown area we discussed before," Chris responded, his voice strained with urgency.

Suddenly, Mark heard Chris muttering names frantically. "Nononono, Emily!!!!!!" Then the call abruptly ended, leaving Mark with a sinking feeling in his chest.

"Hello? Chris? Guys?" Mark called out into the silence, but there was no response. Panic surged through him as he realized the gravity of the situation.

"Shit," he muttered under his breath, his mind racing with the possibilities. "I need to get to that downtown area. I know it well," he thought aloud, determination firming his resolve. "Please, let them be safe," he whispered, a silent prayer as he hurried towards the location Chris had mentioned.
