Unpredictable things happen every day

Unpredictable things happen every day

"Okay… okay, calm down," Kael said while gently patting their backs.

He released them from his grasp and summoned a few boxes of instant noodles and bread packs. "Keep them in the storage room, and I have to go hunt zombies."

"Hmm, before I go hunting, I want to see the orphans. Summon them to the main hall," said Kael.

Sita hurriedly walked out of the main hall and immediately summoned all the orphans. It didn't take long for the orphans to completely fill the main hall.

"How are you all doing?" asked Kael.

"We are doing good," all the orphans said in unison.

"Why are a few faces missing?" asked Kael with a frown.

The orphans looked at each other but didn't answer Kael and stayed silent.

"Rita, what happened? What are you all hiding from me?" asked Kael with a stern gaze.

The unintentional pressure exuded from his body made Rita and the other three ladies shudder, as they were close to him.

"Siri formed a team with a few other orphans and went out to kill zombies to prove to you that they are useful and can be your subordinates, but they haven't returned yet," said Rita with an anxious look on her face.

"Why didn't you all stop them from doing it?" asked Kael, his frown deepening.

"They went out without informing anyone while we were busy arranging lunch for the kids," said Sita, her back drenched in sweat.

The look on Kael's face always reminded her of what he did to the Vulture Wings shelter's boss and his subordinates—it was one of her worst nightmares.

Not just her, the remaining three ladies felt similarly anxious.

"Does anyone know which direction they went?" asked Kael, looking at the orphans.

One little boy, who was always close to Siri, stepped forward and said, "Boss, I know which direction they went.”

"Come with me." Kael reached out his hand to hold the boy and pulled him into his arms as he moved out of the main hall. He continued towards the entrance of the building, and soon he stepped outside with the little boy in his arms.

"Which direction did they go?" asked Kael while gently setting the boy's feet on the ground.

The little boy looked around and pointed his finger in a certain direction. "They went towards the center of the city," Kael murmured inwardly, looking in the direction the boy was pointing.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Everyone had already come out of the building. He turned to the young ladies and said, "I will be back soon. Take care of yourselves and the kids while I'm away."

The young ladies nodded their heads firmly, and he immediately moved in the direction Siri and the other orphans had gone.

"Mini scanner, scan for life signs and give me details of the found life signs," said Kael while moving at full speed.

Du….du….du….

[Scanning is initiated…]

[No life signs found.]

Kael started feeling uneasy. He began reproaching himself, "Am I too strict with these kids? If not, why would they go searching for their death?" Kael murmured while controlling two zombies.

After half an hour, he still didn't find any life signs. He released a helpless sigh and held his head with a frustrated look on his face.

[Life signs found: four males and one female…]

Kael's eyes lit up. He hurriedly moved towards the location where those survivors were.

After a few minutes, he reached the entrance of the storage room and entered inside. The moment they sensed his presence, they all immediately pointed their guns at him.

"Get away from here if you don't want to die!" shouted one guy while switching off the safety of his handgun.

"Guys, I don't mean any harm. I just want to ask you one question. Did you see a group of kids and teenagers?" asked Kael while staring at the survivors.

They looked at each other and said, "No, we didn't see any group of kids and teenagers," said the woman while looking at Kael.

From the beginning to the end, no one lowered their guns that were pointed at him.

"Are you guys sure? Try to remember if you saw any kids or teenagers passing through this place," asked Kael again, with a frown on his face.

“No, we haven't seen any kids or teenagers passing through this place,” said one of the guys with an annoyed look on his face.

"Grrrroar…."

Suddenly, a loud growl came from outside the storage room.

"Scan and tell me at which level this zombie leader is," asked Kael.

[Scanning is initiated… a newly evolved level 1 zombie leader is found.]

"Nice, 50 points. It's been a long time since I added stat points to my stats," Kael murmured and moved at lightning speed towards the level 1 zombie leader.

The level 1 zombie leader sensed the imposing presence approaching and turned to look at Kael, who was moving towards it with lightning speed. Even though his imposing presence was much higher compared to its own, it prepared itself to confront Kael.

"Grrrroar…"

With a loud growl, the zombie leader lunged at him, using its full strength to attack him right from the beginning.

The zombie leader had evolved from a normal zombie, so Kael found its current appearance amusing. Before, it had the body of a BTS singer, but now, after evolution, it had the body of a rock wrestler.

A baseball bat appeared in his hand, and since the zombie leader took the initiative to attack first, he used the baseball bat to counter the incoming attack.

Swoosh… Crack…

"Grrrroar…"

The moment its hand touched the baseball bat, the zombie leader's hand was crushed, bones broken, and blood splattered all over the ground. A painful growl reverberated throughout the place.

The group of people in the storage room who saw everything that happened had their eyes nearly popping out of their sockets.

"Variant…" they all exclaimed at the same time and looked at each other, seeing the fear reflected in each other's eyes. If they had known he was a variant, they would have spoken respectfully to him. But now, it was already too late. There is no medicine for regret. Of course, Kael wouldn't do anything unless they wanted to harm his life, but they didn't want to take any chances. Living in an apocalyptic world, unpredictable things happen every day.
