Gunfire noises.
On Floor 5. I mean, Bell reached this Floor on his first day, and these soldiers took a week. I wondered for a second how they managed the ammo, then I shrugged. I also didn't care.
We passed by the first lines of soldiers and reached the surface, while curiously examining the gear and levels of these soldiers.
Some of them were locals, probably recruited as cannon fodder, or imposed as a token of participation. But the rest were French Foreign Legion, all with levels 5 or 6. Quite decent for normal humans.
A large airstrip was being dug out by a bulldozer, while a transport helicopter deposited a cargo crate beside hundreds others. Well, I guess it was a way to supply a base far in the desert. But for a permanent solution they will need railways. Thousands of tons of munitions per day took quite the logistic train to deliver.
'We make contact?' Lisa asked me as we walked around the base without being perceived by anyone.
'No point doing that here. We'll just be held at gunpoint and arrested. Or we'd come in conflict and have to kill them all.' I answered with an easy voice.
Lisa sighed. 'I'll grab a few phones and laptops. More data would be helpful.' she sent into my mind.
Instead I grabbed some real food and drinks, plus some clothes, boots and various other small bits. French cognac will serve me well.
Then a small two-seat helicopter arrived, just before we could leave.
A nice brunette lady with oversized breasts barely kept inside her suit jumped out, with a duffel bag in hand, and it was the first time I felt Chi in another person. It was a slight shock. And she sensed me too as her eyes locked on the empty spot between two crates, exactly where I was waiting.
'Bring the new lady. Time to go.' I urged Lisa and began heading back towards Floor 1.
Lisa wiggled her fingers, and our visitor vanished from the soldiers perception and ran after us.
As soon as we entered the Dungeon, the lady fainted in my arms and we ran down towards our Rivera base.
'Easier this way. Level 1 are too slow.' Lisa sent on the way, and I just nodded.
An Infant Dragon made me smile for a second on Floor 12, before Lisa blew it up and looted its vial of blood.
The woman in my arms woke up the second we reached safety, and froze as she looked around.
"Parle vous Francais?" she asked in a scared voice.
"Oui and Yes. But so does the Dungeon. We'll switch to secure comms now." Lisa said rapidly, then continued with a long telepathic message.
'I swear some of your stuff looks like Tinkertech.' my wife continued towards me, as she assembled a command center from two laptops and a few cellphones, and looking very experienced doing this.
This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
A folding table and chair, plus a portable powerpack, by the French Legion symbol. Took her only minutes to assemble.
But then I realized Lisa coordinated Endbringer battles as well as dozens of parahuman ones. This stuff was kids play for someone like her.
'Probably a decade more advanced than Earth Bet regular tech, considering that without a failure of civilization from villains and Endbringers.' I mused as the lady turned towards me, curious about my Chi.
I smiled kindly, then summoned my Spirit Weapon and had it fly around, then hover still.
"Uh...Guiding?" she asked out loud, before slapping her mouth and asking Lisa.
'Serena wants to know if you also know Honing and Reinforcement.' my wife sent with a snarky tone.
I nodded towards the newcomer.
'The Epicentre Base above is slated to be shared with Academy City by next week. It means Ground Zero.' Lisa added as data began scrolling on the laptop screen.
I nodded slightly. Right, I did choose Academy City and also Universalty. Which meant the visitor was from the other side.
'The Academy has a few Espers as teachers. And Serena must be from the University.' I disclosed before Lisa found out by herself.
'That University is barely a one-story building in Geneva, the Ecole Phenomenale. The Academy City is basically a city-state in the Cape Verde Islands. Just off the coast.' Lisa continued as the Earth's map loaded on the second laptop, then opened the new wiki page.
Over 7 million people, most of them students and staff. Skyscrapers and long bridges, plus combat arenas, beast cages and a large defense fleet that included a pair of battleships and a dozen cruisers.
Probably for the best, considering the increasing numbers of Beasts about to plague the Earth.
Serena mimed claws at me, as Mystic jumped out from my bedroll, and strolled calmly to demand its crystal tribute. I flicked a low level crystal at the cat, and vanished in mid-air.
"You can pet Mystic all you want. The fur is very fluffy too." I said out loud. It wasn't like the Dungeon didn't know how fluffy its own Carbuncle was.
Having found another servant to use as a fur cleaner, Mystic purred happily in Serena arms, while Lisa read the latest news about Beast attacks and people getting game screens.
Then she opened her inventory to provide several potions for Serena. "Potions only work on humans." she warned the busty teacher while glancing at me.
'You think it could poison a Dragon to death?' I asked with a warm voice.
'Probably no effect. But needs testing anyways.' Lisa decided with a careless tone.
Yep. The Dungeon wouldn't give us a conceptual weapon that would kill the stronger Boss simply because they weren't human. I mean...it couldn't be that stupid, right? I just grinned wistfully.
After scowling at the taste, Serena smiled and gulped the other stat potions without complaining.
I held her hand as she was about to poke another free point into Chi. She had 5 Chi as a level 1, which was nice.
'Lisa explain the peak effect.' I said in my mind.
My wife just sighed. 'Get her to level 20.'
I scratched my head then took the woman in my arms and ran towards Floor 19.
My Black Ghost ran forward to grab a pair of Lizardmen and bring them back, while I took out the Green Dragon's claw and handed it to Serena.
"Chop neck" I said while pointing at the victims.
Serena hesitated for a moment, then nodded and whacked the Lizardmen.
The Green Dragon claw killed the Lizardmen easily. So my Black Ghost brought a Battle boar next.
It took Level 3 Serena three hits to kill the boar, but she reached Level 4. As her level grew, she became a bit more confident, faster and stronger as well.
And as Serena crossed into level 20, she killed a Lizardman by herself. Mostly. Oh well.
She'll need to train with Minotaurs and Ligerfangs anyways.
"Back to Rivera now." I said gently, and began walking home.
"Thank...thank you!" she spoke hesitantly.
I shook my head. Another lamb, for now. But she did have Chi, which mattered a lot for me.
'You want another companion, husband?' Lisa asked me in a casual voice, while examining the newcomer without any hint of envy.
'Uh. Serena has Chi. It may be important.' I deflected a bit awkwardly. I was still a bad liar.
Lisa smiled. "You can stay, Serena. Bath time!" she commanded while taking off her clothes and jumping in the lake.
Serena glanced at me and blushed, then nodded and undressed as well.
I just stared at her impressive assets for a second, too mesmerized to think properly.
Then she jumped in the lake and laughed. "Cold but nice!"
I smiled and undressed as well. I really had the best wife.
