The next day we descended deep into the Tree labyrinth until we reached the Mammoth Fools, since they were also 7 meter tall like the Goliath.
Perfect training ground for Lisa as she prepared for her own fight with the Goliath. Eventually, she figured out a way to make energy steps to jump from. More anime powers and she barely scratched the surface of a real Esper. A strong one could lift mountains. Or shatter them.
As we returned, we found Bell bravely fighting his way though swarms of ants, the adamatite club crushing insect shells with ease.
"Hey Bell. Much better with a shield, isn't it?" I asked in a casual voice.
"Pef! Yes, I didn't even get injured once. Too bad about the loot though..." Bell answered as he pointed out the countless ant crystals on the ground.
"All this trash is worth like 7000 valis. The eggs of that bird are worth a million each. Your choice." I answered in a dismissive voice.
"What? Wait for meeeeeeee!" the kid yelled as he abandoned his loot and chased after us.
By the time he reached the first floor, Lisa had already obtained 3 more eggs, and prepared another Jack Bird for Bell to kill. Which he did with relish.
"A million valis for a single egg? Why aren't more people hunting these birds?" he asked in a curious voice.
"They are hard to catch." Lisa answered instead, and started walking towards the exit.
"What? Look another Jack Bird...I just..." Bell spoke foolishly as he missed and the bird flew away at ridiculous speed. I couldn't even see her wings move.
"Sarah is a bit special." I explained in a half-whisper.
Bell hid the egg in his belt and nodded seriously towards me. "She's so scary though."
Was she? Yeah, she certainly was.
"We can only pity her enemies then. At least we're safe with Sarah on our side, right?" I asked a bit rhetorical.
Bell nodded seriously. "When can I join you two?" he asked instead.
I shrugged. "Nobody is stopping you from descending to Floor 23. Well, there's plenty of Minotaurs on Floor 15 though." I answered with a mild voice.
Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on the original website.
Bell frowned and his hands clenched tight. "I fought one already."
"So you did." I answered in a calm voice.
"I can kill one, I think." he spoke without thinking.
I just nodded. "You'll have to kill thousands of them. But I could do it, as did Sarah. They're pretty great at pushing your stats over S." I said softly, as we met Loki's Familia party near the exit.
The stupid werewolf locked onto Bell for no reason and began mocking him. So, Sarah just punched him with her Energy Fist, and made a Bette-shaped hole into the Dungeon wall. "So obnoxious..." she said in an angry voice, while his comrades stared at us in disbelief.
"Don't kill the poor werewolf, my love. Some people are just idiots." I urged Sarah in a gentle voice.
"...Right. My fist just slipped." she offered as a pathetic apology, then walked on.
Bell and Aiz took a few steps away to chat, while I went to heal the silly werewolf. His jaw was actually shattered. Wasn't this guy at Level 4 or something?
"She's training to kill the Goliath, so her fists can be lethal. Best to keep your mouth shut around her...or have a healer on hand." I offered as a sound advice.
Bette spat a few broken teeth and glared at me. "Crazy talk. The Goliath is Level 4."
"And I killed him yesterday by myself. Damn thing takes too long to respawn." I added as I signaled Bell to follow.
Aiz glanced at me, then back to Bell. "I am going to kill a Minotaur tomorrow." the white rabbit proclaimed in a grand voice.
Aiz hugged the boy tight. "I know. You're very brave Bell."
Then she let go and walked away, leaving everyone staring after her.
Bell grew far too red in the face to be healthy.
A bit later, we checked his new status. D rank all over the board. He could fight a Minotaur perhaps. With his Familia to buff and heal him.
Maybe even without, if far more dangerously.
"You'll keep Bell safe, right?" Hestia asked me in the morning.
"It's actually your choice, my Goddess. He can already Level up, and waste half the points he could gain in this level. I would wait for S ranks at least, if not SSS." I answered and stole a kiss.
"Why do I even worry? He's just like you two. Maybe even faster..." the Goddess wondered as she came out for air.
"You worry because you care. That's why we love you. Also, stay inside today. Or I'll do things to you that you'll need soap to clean your mind." I answered in a loving voice, but colder eyes.
"Ah! Not again..." Hestia uttered as she began to blush fiercely.
I was certain Lisa had hired someone to look after our Goddess, but things could always go wrong.
Soon after, we just kept pace with our hero and only buffed and healed him as he fought through moths and bats, then orcs and silverbacks until he found the first Minotaur.
Then Bell dropped his shield and club, and took out his new black dagger that had cost us one third of our fortune.
And with two steps and a single slash, he decapitated the Minotaur and fell to his knees. "I did it! See grandfather? I can be a true hero."
I waited for a few seconds out of respect. "There's thousands more Minotaurs out there. Are you planning to offer them a blowjob?" I asked when things got a bit awkward.
Lisa elbowed me a bit hard, breaking a few ribs and probably my spleen too. What? I spoke from the heart. And it worked!
Bell sprang to his feet and rushed the herd of Minotaurs, chopping limbs and heads with amazing ease. He was a natural.
"That's a good recruit for our Familia." Lisa admitted in a low voice.
I nodded with a wry grin. All that was left was to get Bell a few girls into his bed. How hard could that be?
