Chapter 64 · Walkout
The table was quiet as I ate the simple meal. It was some kind of beef with beans and a potato mash dotted with pepper. It wasn't fancy but there was lots of it which I was grateful for because it half hid me.
The room was like most of the others fairly plain the only difference was the large wood table and the empty unlit fireplace. No printing or artwork, no flower displaying their deep flavours the only thing that gave any light was a black steel chandelier that hung above ups giving off the odd flicker of light flexing the shadows in the corners of the room.
"So what do you do for a living Mr wick," my uncle said not looking up from his plate.
"Well I'm currently working at a library and I also help with Zoe's agency," Wick managed to choke out his hand coving his mouth as he tried to finish his food fast, not that I blamed him.
The mood I used to was normally happy. My uncle always wanted to tell me about this and that often some new trinket he had gotten or asked about what I been doing at school.
Now the room felt closed in now helped with the flicking looks of worry my uncle gave me and the whithering gazes he passed to Wick.
"Sounds fascinating. Didn't you have an anther 'friend'" my uncle started before he looked at wick again "joining us, Jade?"
I gave a nod "she's out."
My uncle seemed to think for a second before he nodded more to himself than me and continue to eat. The room quickly fell into the sounds of cutlery and little else.
I sat there eating too much slower than Wick. I wanted to talk to Ripley even if he was acting odd. I missed him and I needed to know.
All this time the questions I should have asked but never had. What happened to my family; my mum, dad and even my brother. I'd thought they had died but I had never been to a funeral or seen any graves.

But it wasn't just that my whole head felt like it was filly clicking piece together after a long time of being apart and I was... sacred. What was I going to find?
However, maybe I'm just overthinking it. I just needed the right time.
"I..." I started before Wick suddenly stood up.
"Thank you for the food it was very nice. If you don't mind I will head back to my room," Wick quickly said be for getting up and almost jogging out of the room.
I didn't have time to turn before the door shut with a click leaving just me and Ripley.
"Well at least he ate it all," my Uncle said seemly a bit shocked at the speed that Wick left with.
I gave a nod before clearing my throat and trying again "uncle I want to talk to you about something."
My uncle turns to look up at me his body stiffen and his eye's slightly bulging "It's not about him is it?"
"No," I whispered back trying not to roll my eye's. I mean for real what had gotten into him.
"Thank goodness, well ask away dear I will try my best for you," he replied his whole body relaxing back into his chair.
"Ok, I wanted to ask about my pendants," I said.
For a second my uncle's face seemed to twist into that of shock. His eyes bulged twice the size, his face grew red like a tomato while his entire body seemed to suddenly grow rigid.
The whole house seemed to grow quite like it was holding its breath. Even the flicking candles of the chandelier seemed to freeze and grow dim.
My uncle seemed to realize that I was waiting for him and he took a deep breath "what um, what would you like to know dear?"
I looked at him now with a weak smile on his lips and a drop of sweat roll down his head which he quickly brushed away with a napkin.
"Well, what happens to..." I started to say before the door burst open.
"Sir there's been an issue down in one of the factories. They need you to make a call if you are willing sir," Terry hurry muttered holding the door open.
"An issue? Sorry dear, I have to take this," Ripley quickly rambled before running out the door with Terry shutting it behind him.
Leaving me alone now even more unsure. Why did my uncle act so shocked and was work that much more important than me?
Surely he can tell can't he how scared I am. I don't know what I'm doing and I don't even know myself.
He uses to always be there when I was unsure but the one time I really, truly needed him suddenly work is more important. It wasn't even just now it was for as well.
He didn't ask me anything about London not even trying to ask about Zoe when I got here just hid in his office.
Something didn't seem right at all.
I sighed as I finished my food alone. Guess I will ask in the morning or talk to Zoe when she gets back.
If she comes back.
I shook my head and banished the thought away. I finished my meal before leaving the table and heading to my room.
