Chapter 51 · Storytime
"So how you been doing then?" Ruby ask as we start to back the way we came.
I gave a nod "ok."
"Yep, still quite I see, you at least haven't changed much. So who are you new friends," Ruby asked with a smirk and a nod at Zoe who was standing next to me and Wick who had been pushed to the back of the group?
"I'm Zoe nice to meet you," Zoe introduced herself with a hand wave.
"Flitwick but everyone calls me Wick," Wick also said behind us.
"Well nice to meet y' all. Well as I said I'm Ruby I used to go to school with Jade here until she went to the city," Ruby explained
"So you were friends then?" Zoe asked, "surely you've got some good story's then."
"Oh story's there's plenty of here, it's a small town so everyone knows everyone but I can think of a few good ones from school. Hmm, well there was the one time the school was doing our annual sports day in the park next to the woods, was a warm day too but I'll be dammed if I can remember the month. You remember it, Jade?" Ruby started.
"A little," I whispered. I remember it somewhat but it must have been at least eight years ago now so I listened not wanting to remember it wrong, I didn't want Ruby to think I had forgotten after all.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Ruby gave a smile before starting "Well let me reminded you. Anywho the whole school was there even the most teacher came with a few odd helpers. There was the usual event's Running, skipping, which I did come first in, and that kind of thing but the main event was later in the day. It was the hiding contest, I know not the most imaginative name but that's what it was, anyway I asked Jade if she wanted to team up for it as she wasn't the happiest about taking part."
"I was just... I didn't want to get lost," I pipped in trying to give her my best scowl. She was making me sound lazy.
"Ha, your still the cutest even when I'm not trying. Anyway, to cut the story short we all hid in this wood and me and Jade got a tiny bit lost," she looks at me as she said that with a knowing look. It's not my fault the map was upside down.
"Not that we knew at the time as we were just kids. So there we were in the middle of the woods when this tiny dear walks right up to us. It got all the way to us to the point you could feel its breath. It was so small and it even had a little golden spark to its eyes. Unfortunately, when we went to touch it legged it. We tried to follow it when it left but like the wind, it was gone. Anyway, why in the end one of the teachers found us and gave us a talking to but not as much as your uncle butler did when he came to pick you up."
"Aww your so lucky I've never had that happen," Zoe cried her eyes a bit glazed trying to imagine it.
I heard Wick muttering something along the lines of 'bit long winded' but I decided not to bring it up. It's not like he had much of a choice of coming here so I could give him a bit of leeway. But it was starting to ware fin.
After a while, we started to slow as we drew near to were Ruby worked.
"So you work here?" Zoe asked
"Yep. Just till I earn some money to move else were, don't get me wrong its nice here but a bit slow and I want to see more of the world than this little town before I get too old," Ruby explained with a nod towards the Brick chimney pub.
