Chapter 30 · Arriving

The taxi was deadly silent as I and Zoe sat inside. It was her fault for trying to put make-up on me. I let her play with my face for what felt like hours and I didn't know it would come off.

I mean it may have been a little my fault as she did tell me not to wipe my face but face platting you face into a pillow isn't the same as wiping it.

I looked over to see Zoe still pouting and keeping herself busing playing a game on her phone, at least she didn't have the sound that loud.

In the end, Zoe had to get a new pillowcase and redo my make-up which was more of a punishment for me then it was for her but I still felt guilty about it.

I looked out the window to see the sun just going past midday. It seemed a little early for an auction but then I had never been to one before so I couldn't really know. I turn back to Zoe

"so um, what time is this auction meant to be at?" I muttered to Zoe trying to start a conversation to get rid of this tenses feeling. Also, I kind of wanted to pry a bit more into what her involvement with it she had. I'm English I'm meant to be nosey.

"Its meant to start at five," Zoe began "but first their food and drink, then their item viewing, then people have to be seated. Its a right pain or so some of staff tell me."

"So is it far away then?" I asked looking at the sun still high up even in winter. Or is it spring now; well it still felt like winter.

Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.

"No love just ten minutes even with the traffic," came the ruff voice of our driver who had a cockney voice from the front.

"So why are we going so early?" I asked Zoe turning to her. I felt weird talking to someone I don't know.

"I have some stuff to sort out there. More paperwork," Zoe complained sticking her tongue out "but it's ok you can look at all the cool stuff while we are there, k."

I just nodded. I didn't really want to spend too long without Zoe but if she trusted where we were going then I guess it will be ok. I hope it doesn't take her too long mind.

It didn't take long for us to pull up next to a large marble bank-like building with large grey pillars filled with flecks of what looked like gold almost embedded inside. Large tinted glass door stook opens into a red-carpeted and curtains room.

we, I mean Zoe, pay the driver and to said goodbye with a "Tar, thanks for picking a cabbie," before I was dragged up the stair to the door by Zoe. I almost slipped a few time thanks to almost never wearing heals even if they were only so high.

We soon came to the doors that opened wide. Stepping inside I found a lobby with three people at in the middle of the room standing behind a worn wooden desk. Around then sat small tables with old wooden chairs that had red cushions built into them.

The walls still had a marble quily to them and looking up higher I could see a detailed carved patterns and looking closer I could see tiny images of creatures imprinted into it. Unfountly I didn't have time to look at them as Zoe was pulling me along to the desk in the middle of the room.

"Hello, my name is June is there something I can help you with?" Came the almost robot voice of the closes receptionist.

"Yeah, I'm here with Void to see the, oh gods what their name, the director person."

"Of course miss. May I have your name and the name of your friend please?" the receptionist asked.

"Okay, its Zoe and this is Jade," replied Zoe still holding my arm.
