Chapter 54 · The world turns
"So Jade you came back to see you uncle then?" Ruby asked as she passed me my drink
I gave a small nod before replying "how did you know?"
"Ha, not to say this isn't a great place and all but there's not much to come back to." She gave a sigh
"It's not that bad is it, seems peaceful," Wick commented between sips.
"I guess if you like dull and grey," Ruby replied her eyes losing some of there glint.
We sat there for a few seconds the only sound was the people talking in the background their words hard to make out and the sound of Zoe as she tried to use a straw to finish the last of her drink. Wow, she drunk that fast...
"Well, anyways," Rudy said ending the awkward silence "you've been in London right Jade, so come on tell me all the details."
"Well um what do you want to know," I asked. I had spent most of my time shut in, I mean I hadn't even gone shopping I had those delivered to my place so it's not like I had ever seen anything at least...
I mean could I tell her about magic. No that's stupid, she would think I was crazy and what if there was like some kind of law saying not to tell others about it.
"Um, playing sly are ya, alright then what about any guy's you hooked up with. Any good looking ones or are with one now?" Ruby asked giving me an evil smile.
"I, um, no," I stuttered back.
"Oh really," Ruby replied still smiling

Fuck why didn't I lie? Stupid brain I mean I could and should have come up with something better than 'no'. Right.
"So you didn't hook up with any guys at all, not even him," Ruby asked pointing at Wick who almost choked on his drink.
"Jade can do way, way better than Wick," Zoe commented in what I guess is a compliment. I think.
"What do you mean by that!" Wick said half copping, half shouting.
Zoe gave a wave of her hand at Wick before exclaiming, "Wick with your fashion the only person you could get with is a ghost from the eighteen hundreds."
This seemed to shut Wick up as he turned half purple and continue to drink his water, facing away from Zoe and therefore in turn me.
"So anyway if you didn't hook up with any guy then," Ruby seemed to pause for a second before leaning forward next to my ear giving me a wide glance of her chest and her faint scent of deodorant before humming quietly " so do you bat for the other side then."
I felt my face freeze as I tried to work out what she had said before the reality hit me. Then she blew on my ear.
"Baw ha ha ha, oh come on Jade I'm joking lighten up," Ruby laughed as she leaned back.
Suddenly I realized what she was doing. She was teasing me.
I tried my best get give a few laughs but while my heart was calming down the knot in my stomach still sat there making it felt pointless so I quickly stopped.
"But for real Jade didn't you get with anyone," Ruby asked after a few more chuckles.
I gave a shake of my head doing my best not to look over at Zoe. I didn't want to be talking about this but so far I didn't see much of a way out of it.
"Wow, so you still a pure maiden hmm," Ruby concluded with a wink causing me to nod.
"That's great," I suddenly heard behind me as Zoe squeezed my shoulder "now I know what I need to get you."
"Wer, what," I whispered whipping my head other to look at Zoe's smiling face.
"Yep, I know loads of great guys you can meet up with, oh there's Edd he..." Zoe gushed on and on about different guy her eyes seeming to glaze other a little.
I half heard what she was saying not really paying attention to her words. I looked at her hand still resting on my shoulder. I felt it. Like an anchor hooking my eye's.
I could explain why I felt sad as Zoe took it back nor could I explain why it suddenly felt so cold even with the electric fire being so close by.
"I need guy friends," I heard Wick muttering next to me.
