Chapter 49 · Empty Walls

"It's smaller then I remember," I committed

"Looks run down," came Wick voice which earned him a glare from me.

I look back at my old school. It looked kind of like a church but extension had been added over the years slowly turning it from a place of praise to one of learning. The old grey shell of the building was surrounded by a little wooden fencing hiding the garden and playground that stood empty.

yet no noises could be heard from inside and even less movement too.

"Do you think its closed or something," I asked feeling a little sad see somewhere I had spent so much time empty.

"It might just be the holidays. They were the best part of school," Zoe said with a distant look in her eye.

"Zoe I wish I could say I'm surprised but I'm not," Wick sighed shaking his head.

I had been showing them around for a while now. There's wasn't much too Thent-hill but the town did have some history to it.

"So this place use to be a church did it," Wick asked which had been one of the few things he seemed to be interested in. Most of my short tour he had been reading his phone or one of his books. I was surprised someone like him was able to carry so many books without falling over but he seemed to walk around just fine.

"I think so," I replied looking to the stone frame.

"Do you know what kind?" He asked again

"I don't know it's just always been a school since forever. No one here is very religious as far as I know," I said slightly out of breath.

"You sure you don't know?" Wick whined

"Wick she doesn't know," Zoe said for me with a roll of her eyes.

"Why do you want to know?" I asked

"Well, the energy of this place is weird. necromancy here, life energy there and this church should have some form of fate magic but it's a dead zone," he explained starting slowly but slowly faster his tone getting more and more annoyed.

I just looked at him, "Ok".

"Good, see Zoe I'm not 'boring' you just need to try listening more," he gave a nod and then went back to his book.

Zoe slowly lean down to me away from Wick, "you didn't understand any of that did you?"

I shook my head making Zoe start giggling.

"What, what's so funny," Wick complained as we started to move again.

"Just girl stuff Wick" Zoe lied between every odd laugh.

Wick just shook his head not seeming, wisely, do not want to ask more.

"So that's mostly it," I said walking us to the only other place we hadn't been yet.

"This place is kind of small isn't it," Zoe asked following next to me.

"Yes, the town was hit baldy with plague and illness about forty or so years ago and its taken a while for it to recover. Most of the crops kept failing year after year and people seemed to get ill almost every week or so," I explained.

"Weird, so where we heading," Zoe asked

I stooped thinking about the past of the town as I pointed to the little library a few minutes from us.

"Okay, is that we're you uncle works then?" Zoe guessed.

"No, but its got a public phone," I explained.

"If you want a phone you could always use mine," Zoe said taking her mobile out.

"Oh," was all I said as she handed it to me.
