20 - SMOKEY TOWERS THAT TOWER OVER SMOKE

Riding in the back of a fancy and royal horse powered carriage alongside the knight of which she now knew to be named Gabriel, and his trusty little female friend, named none other than Livinia - Charlotte sat with a look of despair and growing anxiety on her face, as she prepared for the events that were to come. While she did, Lavinia, who was once staring off into the outside world and the beautiful fields that surrounded them, turned to look, and shake hands with her. “We never really got formal introductions,” she started, not wanting to make the scene awkward - “We were just kind to one another, and now preparing for war the next.” she then added, providing some layer of context to her earlier speaking. “Yeah, war…” Charlotte responded to her. “Yep, war - I hate it!” Lavinia then said, smiling as she did so, before she finally stopped shaking hands. “So, you - do you like war?” Lavinia then asked. “No, not at all.” Charlotte said while rubbing her stomach. “Looks like you have one of your own though!” Lavinia then said, as she pointed towards Charlotte’s grumbling belly. “Anyways, don’t fear - I’ve got food!” she then spoke, pulling out fresh bread and cheese at the same time.

“Eat as much as you want, there’s plenty more where this comes from!” she cheered, handing the meal over to Charlotte, who dug in. “My, oh my.” said Charlotte as she finished the bread, and then went on to the cheese. With it in her mouth, she began to talk to Lavinia - “I always see you guys with cheese, how many cows do you guys have?”. Lavinia smiles, and winks. “There are no cows.” she says, all while Gabriel leans back to see her - as the girls sat in the very back, and him in the front. “It’s goat milk.” he told Charlotte, who finished up her plate. “Now though, you mustn't eat too much - there’s better food ahead, at the war grounds.” he said next. Meanwhile, Charlotte sighed, remembering where she was headed. “Sir. Gabriel - do you like war?” she asked Gabriel, who was putting on his helmet. With it on, he told Charlotte - “War’s a terrible thing, but sometimes, we need to fight.”. Charlotte nodded, “Of course you’d fight a lot.” she pitched in. Gabriel turned to her, as the carriage finished its journey. “What is that supposed to mean?” he asked, before the coachman pulled him away. “We have arrived.” he informed Gabriel, who gave a thumbs up, while readying his sword. “I see!” he said with excitement, before running off - “Don’t get too far in there!” shouted Lavinia, before looking back at Charlotte. “You ladies are better off staying here.” said the coachman, dressed up in a suit with a moustache and short hair, to both the girls. Charlotte yawned. “But I’ll get bored!” she whined. Lavinia looked at her. “But, I bet you’d rather be here than fighting, would you not?” she asked her. Charlotte looked side to side. “Yeah.” she answered as she hopped out from the carriage. “I want to see the horse!” she then told the coachman, who was motioning to the horse himself. “At your order.” the coachman said to Charlotte, before placing down a stool, and politely gesturing to it.

Charlotte’s eyes grew sparkly. “I can ride her!?” she questioned, as she ran behind, and started rubbing the black horse’s tail. “Him,” the coachman guided, “-And, yes - you may.”. He then looked over at Charlotte playing with the horse’s tail. “You’ve ought to not do that.” he warned her, as she still did it.

Soon, after a few seconds of playing with him in a childish way, and pulling at his hairs whilst shouting “Horsie!”, Charlotte could see the horse begin to shake. “Huh.” she said with a blank expression, before the horse delivered a strong kick - which threw her backwards. “Little lady!” called the coachman, as he ran over to pick up Charlotte. “You must stay watchful.” he taught her, as he sat her up. “That’s the truth.” Charlotte said as she felt dizzy. “You’re right…” she then added, before screaming.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

At the large Witch School, there was a sudden explosion, which caused smoke to rise up. “They must be firing at one another.” the coachman said, as he carried Charlotte back into the carriage, and pulled down its curtain doors. “Maybe it’s safer to stay in here.” he told her and Lavinia before doing so. But, right after, Charlotte pulled the curtain back up. “I want the horse.” she told the coachman.

He sighed. “It’s dangerous right now.” he told her, before closing the curtains again. Charlotte stomped. “War is nasty.” she told Lavinia, who was busy writing in her journal. Lavinia closed the journal. “Right on point.” she said, meaning that she had the same view. Charlotte stretched. “Why are they even fighting in the first place?” Charlotte then asked Lavinia, who went back to working through her journal. “Well, because the castle where I - no, we, are from, is full of religious knights and kings. Meanwhile, they’re ruled by magicians and witchcraft loving buffoons. As you can guess, they don’t exactly follow our standards.” she told Charlotte, who stretched some more. “Anyway, what’re you writing?” she asked now - avoiding their earlier subject. “Nothing, just the notes for my concept sketch.” she replied, now stretching herself - “Ooh, movement feels good.” she said, while Charlotte took the time to take the journal. Immediately, she skimmed through Lavinia’s concept sketch. “Oh, are you intrigued?” Lavinia asked, wondering if anyone else was as educated as she was. Charlotte’s response proved negatively. “I don’t even know what that means.” she told Lavinia, as she dropped the journal. “Do you hear that?” she asked, now picking the journal back up. Lavinia froze. “I do - but what is it?” she asked Charlotte, who stood up. “I knew it!” Charlotte declared - “The moment I heard witch school, I guessed it!”.

Lavinia went out with a “What?”.

“My friends, they’re here, I know it!” Charlotte told her. “As, I recognise that sound from anywhere! It’s the harmony of Lune’s bagpipes!” she said, as awe swept through her chest. “I must go meet them!” Charlotte yelled, before exiting the carriage. “Eh - really!?” asked Lavinia, as she hopped out of the carriage, and followed after Charlotte in a sprint. “Oh, no.” said the coachman as he watched the two determined girls run into the building, and through the halls. He wasn’t even going to try catching up with them. By now, they ran through random pathways, and burning rooms, before hearing human speech. Courageously, they dared to enter a room, where now knights and witches stood, readying for combat. In the frontlines, Gabriel stood in front of Witchie. “Fine then - if we can’t handle this with our fists, then I guess that the Hikidama are the only other way!” he shouted, while pulling his Hikidama out from his pocket.

Witchie dropped her broom. “Fine then, wimp.” she said, pulling her own Hikidama out as well. Charlotte watched from afar - “This is purely inhumane.” she said, before sneakily making it over to the rest of the kids, who were behind Witchie. Scared to be alone, Lavinia crawled after Charlotte. “So, are these your friends?” she asked. “Yes, they are.” said Charlotte, as she walked next to Ciel. Ciel held her hand. “Why’d you leave us?” she whispered. Whispering back, Charlotte fixed - “You left me!”, before the bagpipes called. Meishu looked over at Lucette when they did. “I’m literally going to die.” Lucette told him, as he touched the back of his head. “No, I will.” he said, as Yu walked over. “Right.” she said, before the bagpipes finished.

Lune stood before everyone - “At once, in peace and glory - let the Hikidama Battle begin!”
