17 - WHEN ONE IS BEHIND THE GRID, ONE IS OFF

The group of children all sat amongst each other on the ground, whilst putting together their own broom sticks just as Witchie had done. In the calmness, and the cold of evening - they felt relaxed, and overly calm. “Anything could happen now.” said Frankie as she sat criss-cross on the ground next to Charlotte, who was struggling to put anything together. From behind, Ciel crawled over to Charlotte and began to assist her within the construction. “No Charlie - you put this with this! And, you’ll break the strings like that.” she assisted, putting her hands on Charlotte’s to only better the aiding. But, despite the extra teamwork she was receiving, Charlotte still didn’t understand the concept - and fell backwards on the ground. On her knees, Ciel looked over at Charlotte, who was groaning. Until, finally Witchie came over and lifted her hand out. “Here, I know what to do.” she told her.

Charlotte grew happy, and accepted Witchie’s hand with a grin. “Yes, do so!” she screamed happily with joy. Accordingly, Witchie sat down with Charlotte, and she too began to help her. Meanwhile, a bit far off - Meishu was next to Lucette and Yu. “Feeling better yet?” asked Lucette with a sly look. To Lucette - Meishu turned his head to her, as he was laying down. “Not yet.” Meishu replied, with a deep tone. Lucette smiled, before looking down at her own lap. “Faker…” she mumbled. Hearing her, Meishu looked up. “What is there to fake!? I literally have a hole in my head!” he shouted at the girl, who began to break out in upbeat laughter afterwards. “Yeah, right Meishu - and I’m a queen.” she cried with silliness still within. Meishu stared. “You were.” he said in a near silent pitch.

“Ah!” gasped Lucette, as just like Meishu had done many times - she had thoughts of back at home, a time so far away, yet close in the heart to her. For she had grown up there, and had a great many of family and friends before attending school. Thus, with everything scattering, in head, she could see the old castle of which she would reside. Within that castle, there were so many rooms - all French and Italian Renaissance in design. She could remember running through the open halls, and viewing the unglassed windows before eating. “Good times!” she remembered her mother saying. “So much time has passed.” she then told Meishu, who gravitated his hand towards hers. “Same here.” he told, now imagining Japan. There, he could remember being lost inside of a market alongside Kaminari, who was sick at the time. He could remember the fear and the sadness - as well as the pain. Never again he had promised himself when he found her, and took her home - never again would he get so far from her. Yet, he had done it now, and was now far apart from her. He had abandoned his word, and now felt bad for it. Sitting up, he began to finish his work of a broom. “There, done.” he told Lucette, who stood up now.

Looking up at her, he spoke again - “Wait, what are you doing Lucy?” he asked. Lucette turned back and frowned. “Stop calling me Lucy, or I’ll kick you in the arse.” she told Meishu, who grinned as he too stood up. “We’re preparing for flight.” Lucette then told Meishu. Meishu scratched his head. “Alright, Lucy.” he responded, before Lucette turned. Turning back forward, Lucette delivered a kick to Meishu, with her actual foot turning and hitting his rear. “Didn’t I say I’d kick your arse?” she reminded him, whilst he held onto his area. “It’s a word!” Meishu tested.

Lucette shook her head. “But more importantly it’s not my name.” she replied, before shouting over to Witchie - “So, are we ready?” she asked her. Witchie stomped. “No - because this fool!” she yelled back.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

Charlotte, who was next to Witchie, whined. “Me? Fool…!?” she continued to whine, as Witchie jumped up and down, still stomping - like a child in anger. Lucette snickered. “You two make quite the pair.” she joked over to Witchie and crew.

Witchie snapped, “Ok, why don’t I just let her sit on the back of mine, or something?” she asked the group - as if they’d respond. As one may assume, they didn’t. So, Witchie answered her own question. “I will…” she quietly announced - before getting louder. “Everyone, brooms up!” she ordered, making everyone rush to pick their brooms up from the ground. After lifting his, Meishu turned to look at Lucette. “I can’t believe I’m working with a witch…” he whispered.

Witchie overheard - “The Witch!” she corrected, feeling pride within

. “Ok…” Meishu then silently spoke back, whilst twisting the broom around within his grasp. . “What an insane little girl.” he then said to Lucette who wasn’t paying much attention - before Witchie walked over to him.

“Hey, man,” she started - “Ready to fly?” she asked. Meishu blinked a few times. “Perhaps.” he replied while blinking more. “Why’d you come to me?” he then added. This made Witchie smile. “You talked.” she then informed Meishu, before looking at his broom. “Pretty neat.” she told him, as she walked a bit off and away. “OK.” she now told the whole group - “I’m ready for sleep, so we’ve best get off now!” she announced, whilst lifting her broom in the air.

“Thus, mount your belongings my great men - or, whatever those horsebackers say!” Witchie declared, as she sat on her broom.

Lucette sat down on the broom like she had done earlier when she was chasing after Witchie.

“I’m ready over here.” she told Witchie, who was getting down on a broom herself. “Hm - then let’s fly!” Witchie then said, as she slowly prepared herself, before taking off into the sky. “Off she goes!” yelled Ciel, as she looked up. “Let’s go.” said Stelline to her friend Lune, as she launched off. Lune kicked back, and then flew off as well.

Soon, everyone had taken off, and was flying together in a large mass, except for Charlotte. On the ground, Charlotte sat there kicking rocks. “Hey, guys!” she screamed, hoping for someone to return in order to help her. “Help!” she then cried. “I’m alone - !” she continued, still holding small hope, before it all fell out. “I’m done for…” she then cried, looking up at the sun which was almost gone. As she did so, she shook - hearing some sort of animal running by her.

Back up in the sky, Witchie led the group towards a large building. “It’s a palace!” exclaimed Ciel. “Nuh-uh, that’s a castle.” said Lucette.

“Shut up.” said the rest of the group, as they neared the castle even more so.

“So - what exactly is this place?” asked Meishu as he got closer to Witchie. “You’ll see.” Witchie giggled back.

“What if it’s a school for witches!?” asked Castille. “Unlikely.” said Flawrin in response, as they all landed. Witchie smiled -

“We’ll see!”
