Chapter 46: The Goblin King

Chapter 46: The Goblin King

Since they were now only an estimated hundred meters away from the walls of the fortress, they first saw the extent of it. It was a huge fortress. It was made of stones. Like an old knight's castle. But, in contrast to the normal medieval castles, this one had something creepy about it. It had several high towers that towered pointedly into the air. Just looking at it sent a shiver down your spine. You could constantly hear some kind of screams coming from the direction of the fortress.

"Do we seriously have to go in there?" Eichi asked in exasperation.

Hiroki had been thinking about it a bit as well. If they stormed the fortress and killed everything in their way, it would take them half an eternity to finally get to the king. Therefore, he considered using his powers to kill the goblin king. However, on the other hand, he was split. He didn't want to make it so easy for his friends. After all, to get out via the designated path, you have to kill the king.

And if truth be told, it was Eichi who led them into this hidden dungeon, not Hiroki. So they would have to make up for their own mistakes as well.

Therefore, Hiroki now told them his e decision.

"You have led us here as if you have to get us out of here. I recommend you approach the matter with some haste. We do not have the luxury of time in our hands."

When they heard this, final decision, they immediately realized that they could not refuse or talk their way out. Therefore, they held a brief meeting among brothers. They wanted to talk about how they would proceed. It wasn't long before they had a plan ticked off.

They would try to break into the fortress as inconspicuously as possible. Therefore, they did not hesitate for long, and the group started immediately.

Inconspicuously and slightly bent over, they ran towards the fortress wall. They wanted to prevent any of the guards from seeing them. They succeeded in doing so. They arrived at the foot of the wall without attracting any attention.

Fortunately, the wall was not very well built. Many stone blocks were protruding from the wall, which made them perfect for climbing. That's exactly what they were doing now. One by one, they clung to the stone wall and climbed up it. Since they were level 4 by now, it wasn't much of a feat. Aiko was the first to reach the top. But before he climbed over the wall, he observed the situation. There were some goblins stationed on the wall. But they were all poorly armed, carrying at most a bow. A guard was only a few steps away from Aiko. When he looked away for a moment, Aiko took the opportunity to jump up from the wall and attack the goblin. The goblin was too startled to react. When Aiko attacked him, he covered his mouth so the goblin couldn't raise the alarm. Now that the goblin was dead, Aiko helped his friends upstairs. Of course, he always made sure that he was not discovered by the surrounding guard. They walked along the wall until they were near the largest building of the fortress. That's where the goblin king should be. There was nothing spectacular in the fortress. Some buildings, smaller houses, and a lot of agricultural lands. The streets were teeming with goblins.

'If we'd had to fight our way through there, I don't think we'd ever have reached the king.' Eichi thought.

So now they went on without thinking further. They looked for a good spot and climbed down from the wall. This time there was a ladder, which was used by the guards. Therefore, it did not take long. Now that they were down, they had to be all the more careful. They didn't want to be seen by the goblins. They pressed themselves against the wall of a building, to attract little attention. As soon as the street was clear and none of the goblins were looking, they crossed the street and pressed themselves against the next building. They repeated this several times until they finally arrived at the big building. But even there they did not pause. They wanted to use every single second. Therefore, they looked for a low window and climbed in. Arriving at the building, which was probably the palace of the fortress, they went in search of the throne room. For that was where the king would most likely be waiting for them. As always, they walked in a crouched position, trying to avoid any goblin. If this was not possible, it was Eichi's or Aiko's job to take out the goblin as quickly as possible.

After a few minutes, they came to a door that looked very promising. It was a large double door, which, unlike the rest of the doors, looked very elegant. This had to be it. This was the door to the throne room.

Since they were so sure of it, they opened it directly. They did not try to act inconspicuously anymore. With a loud bang, the door opened. They had been right. At the other end of the room sat a large goblin. He had some kind of crown on and seemed very surprised to see intruders. There were only 4 normal goblin guards in the room, no one else. No goblin mages or shamans. No.

'Somehow I expected more.' Thought Aiko. Rightly so, of course. It was strange to see a king guarded by only simple guards. But there is a good explanation for that. Since no human had ever entered this hidden dungeon before, the goblins felt no need to train stronger soldiers. After all, they didn't need it.

With the guards all down, Aiko and Eichi set out to kill the king. The king, of course, was also a weak goblin, although he was built larger than the rest. With only a few blows and combined forces, the brothers defeated the goblin king. As a result, a [System Message] appeared.

Congratulations! You have successfully killed the target.

Your exit will be granted.

When they read that, a kind of portal appeared in front of the king's throne. It was about two meters high and shone with a bright light. There was no long hesitation, then the group entered the portal. Time was short. They left this hidden dungeon and finished their little adventure.
