Chapter 16: Welcome back

Chapter 16: Welcome back

At around 10 p.m. they reappeared in front of Hiroki’s house. It was already dark outside.

“Woah, this world has two moons, how cool is that!”, mentioned Yasuo. It was true, this world had two moons. One was around the same size as the moon on earth, while the second moon was a tiny bit smaller, though he had at least two times the number of craters on him. Even the night sky was more beautiful here than on earth, as there were way more stars visible. You could even catch a glimpse of some sort of nebula that looked strangely familiar to the Orion Nebula. It was very colorful and bright.

As they walked towards the house's front door, the door suddenly opened and Gaia welcomed them.

“Hello guys, welcome back. How was your time?”, she said as she grinned at Hiroki.

Aiko was about to answer “Well, it was actually-“when suddenly Hiroki interrupted him as he was cramping and putting his hands to his stomach.

“Guys, I… I don’t feel so good.”

As he said that he began to seemingly sweat a ton. The sweat got worse and worse and it appeared as if Hiroki was melting.

“Ahhhhh”, all his friends jumped into the air out of fear. The sight was horrific, as Hiroki turned in some sort of slime.

“Guys, help me, help me please!”, he screamed.

But his friends couldn’t do anything, they didn’t even want to as they were too scared. Thus, they watched Hiroki slowly turning more and more into a slime, until he was completely absorbed by the muddy ground and vanished.

As they realized what just happened, they turned toward Gaia.

“What in the world just happened? Is he dead? Omg, what do we do now?”

They said these things as they were really hectic and shocked about what just happened, but Gaia didn’t seem to care. It was strange that she didn’t even show a change in emotion, not anger or sadness. Instead, after a short while, she started grinning and giggling.

As they looked at her in confusion, a human silhouette appeared next to the door. At first, they couldn’t see who it was, but as the figure came closer, they saw Hiroki standing in front of their eyes. Yes Hiroki, the same Hiroki that got turned into slime and vanished not that long ago.

They dropped their jaws as they didn’t know how else to react.

Gaia turned around and embraced him as he screamed.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

“Haha guys, it’s a prank!”

Hiroki and Gaia both started laughing.

Eichi, as smart as he was, connected all the dots: “Are you for real? Don’t tell me you never even went with us to earth? I thought you said you were coming with us, but I guess you just sent one of these clone guys with us.”

Hiroki still couldn’t stop laughing, thus he tried to calm himself down as he was heavily breathing in and out.

“First of all, that wasn’t a clone but a doppelganger… huge difference, we’ll learn it in school.”

“And secondly…of course, why would I go together with you guys? I already knew that you were going to spend the whole day on earth. I didn't want to throw away such a precious day. And technically I shared my consciousness with the doppelganger, so you could say that, technically, I was with you the whole time. But thanks to that I had a very relaxing and enjoyable day together with Gaia, hehe", bragged Hiroki, while Asami blushed as she buried her face in his right shoulder.

Eichi raged as he started running towards Hiroki.

“You fucking moron!”

Seeing the upcoming danger, Hiroki freed himself from Gaia’s embrace and ran inside the house, trying to get rid of him.

They ran several laps around the dinner table and the sofa. It took them around 10 minutes until they finally calmed down. After that, they gathered in the living room, as requested by Hiroki. Aiko and Eichi both sat down on an armchair, while Yasuo decided to remain standing. Gaia and Hiroki were sitting on the sofa, holding hands. As they were all ready, Hiroki began to speak.

“Now just a short review about what happened on earth, so that maybe Gaia also gets to know what happened.

So basically, our talk was shit, not even our super acting skills helped. Because of that, I had to use my powers to… let’s say make their parents believe that everything was ok. Then we spent the rest of the day philosophizing about my powers and our future.”

Hiroki had no desire to talk any longer about that, as he was sure his wife had nothing to ask, so he just went on with the next topic.

"As you may still remember, tomorrow starts the new semester at the academy. Luckily the king arranged classes for us and also a, …well more or less believable background.

If someone were to ask you who you are or where you're from, just say your name and that you come from a noble family who lives at the border of this kingdom. You can just use your family name if they were to ask. But I highly doubt that, since everyone pities the noble families living at the kingdom’s border, there wander around many demons that must be dealt with. So in a way, it’s a good background as most of the people will leave you be."

Now Gaia spoke up: "Could you please explain to them when school starts, darling? And also tell them all the important information since I noticed that you guys tend to handle things rather spontaneously…"

As she said that, Hiroki, Eichi, and Aiko subconsciously turned their heads toward Yasuo, as if he was the one Gaia was talking about. Yasuo avoided their gazes by turning his head around.

"Ok, so school starts at 9 a.m. and I will teleport us to school, so… let's wake up at around 8 a.m. If you want, tomorrow I can give you guys something to write, but in theory, you shouldn't need anything for school. Though there are probably many nerds that will write down each and every word that these teachers will say in class.", explained Hiroki.

Looking at the clock, Hiroki decided to end their talk.

“But for now let’s eat and then go to sleep… I’m tired from today’s activities.”, he continued, while gazing toward Gaia.

40 minutes later, all the lights, that previously shone through the windows of the house, were switched off and the last source of light that was left was the starry night sky.
