Chapter 45: Goblin Fortress

Chapter 45: Goblin Fortress

When Aiko killed the goblin, he waited a moment for his friends to catch up. Now it was time to find out what was hiding behind this mysterious wall from which the now dead goblin had come. But since they could only vaguely glimpse the event earlier, they had not remembered where exactly this wall was from which the goblin had come. Therefore, they now took it upon themselves to search the entire wall of the cave. It wasn't long before Eichi had given up.

"Oh, let's not bother. It was probably just an optical illusion anyway... a mirage or whatever it is."

Just as he said this, he wanted to lean against the cold cave wall to come down and relax a bit. But just then it happened. His arm slipped through the wall as if it didn't even exist, and he falls into it. For the rest of the group, it seemed as if he was swallowed up by the wall.

Full of worry, they ran straight to him. Since he was not to be seen, they decided to go also by the wall. But without falling.

When they left the wall again, they found themselves in a wide meadow. In front of their feet lay Eichi.

"Hi, guys. Already here?" he greeted them.

But they had little time to pay attention to their friend. Because what they just saw took their minds away.

They were no longer in the narrow passage of the cave. No. What they saw before them was amazing.

A huge cave. Probably several kilometers long in diameter. Full of meadows and trees. A little to the left, there was even a waterfall, from which shot clear blue water. You could easily hear the splashing. It was somehow harmonious. Although they were one hundred percent in a cave, they were sure of it because you could see the stone wall of a cave on all sides, even above, it was not dark there. On the contrary. There was a kind of natural light shining. Approximately the same brightness as the sun on the surface of the earth. However, they could not locate any source of light. It was as if the cave was illuminated by something magical.

"So, what do we do now?" Eichi asked.

He had gotten up in the meantime and knocked the dirt off his butt.

Of course, it went like it always did. Aiko and Eichi were helpless and Hiroki had to explain to them what was going on.

"So think for yourself. We are in some kind of... let's say anomaly. -" He was interrupted by Hiroki, who was talking out loud to himself.

"I knew it, so it was an anomaly. You probably didn't expect that, did you? That I would know what was going on" He was proud of himself.

Hiroki ignored him and continued.

"So, very simple. Since we are in an anomaly of the dungeon, there is currently no easy way out. -" Now he was interrupted by Eichi.

The latter walked towards the wall behind them and spoke.

"Hiroki, I respect that you're a god and all, but even you should think for a minute. Why don't we just walk back the same way we came?" As he said that, he walked towards the wall. He was sure he could just walk through like he did the first time. But it didn't happen. Instead, he hit the wall head-on.

"Ouch!" He rubbed his head to ease the pain.

When Hiroki saw it, he had to raise his hand in front of his eyes out of strange shame. He didn't want to see it any further. So, he continued. This time a bit irritated.

"Now, if you would just let me finish for once, you wouldn't have to make such a clown of yourselves.

We're not going to get out of here that easily. To do that, we have to fulfill a certain goal. Most of the time, that goal is the old familiar boss.

So, our goal is to find and kill the boss here, then we can go back to the main cave."

It was a simple concept. The hardest part was just finding said boss. This could also take several days, as there are often other, hidden, caves in some dungeons where the boss is located.

But fortunately for them, they didn't have to search for any hidden entrance or the like. Two minutes after they started to follow straight from a small path, they spotted some kind of fortress in the distance. They decide to approach it, hoping to find the boss there.

On the way, of course, they talked to each other.

"How is it that such an abnormality can be found in a dungeon that, according to the school, is classified as easy?" Eichi wanted to know. It was a fair question because according to Professor Pertina, these dungeons were thoroughly tested for their difficulty level. Hiroki had been expecting a question of this nature to be asked, so he didn't hesitate to answer.

"Dungeons are always structured the same way as the number of monsters living in them. Each difficulty level has a specific number of monsters per floor. Here, the people who checked the dungeon must not have been paying very close attention and overlooked this cave. That's why, according to their measurements, the difficulty level of this dungeon is much lower than it should be.

If they had gone down one more floor, they would have noticed it right away, but that wasn't done."

When asked why they didn't, there was a simple answer. These dungeons had been designed by the school only for students to enter the first and second floors. Therefore, they simply closed off the entrance to the lower floor and walled it off.

They went on and on, but it seemed like they didn't get anywhere. The fortress was still miles away. When Hiroki checked the time, he realized they didn't have too much time left. If they still wanted to kill the boss and get back up in time, they would have to reach the fortress in a few minutes. But with their current speed that was not possible. So, Hiroki used his powers again.

It was now as if he and his friends were moving at double speed. But only they did that, not the outside world. They began to run, and it was as if they were flying across the path like lightning.

If a person from a distance saw them, it would look like watching a video at double speed.

It didn't even take a minute, and they were already only 100 meters away from the fortress.
