Chapter 49 – Fear the Night, Unsheathe the Saber, Thread the Fate (III)
The two men were able to detect immediately the changes in Lia’s expression.
When Lia felt the saber intent fighting against the energy, she immediately knew that Aiden was losing.
She was able of determinate that the one fighting Aiden was at least so strong like the two men fighting her.
But different from her, Aiden was unable of fighting such opponent in his own.
Not only was Aiden cultivation lower than Lia, at the late core-forming stage, but he also lacked Lia’s strength originated from the Nornir soul in her.
And though he could use saber intent, it could not be compared to Lia’s boost in her strength when she used the power of her second soul.
Lia had already noticed it. When she entered in this state, she was stronger that Aiden.
Imagining the scene of the weaker Aiden fighting an enemy against whom even her would have troubles, uneasiness surged inside the heart of Lia.
And she even remembered that Aiden left his saber behind.
“Young master!”
With an expression of rage and fear, Lia immediately began to run towards the place where Aiden was fighting.
However, before she could run for ten meters, a dagger cut towards her.
“Bastard!”
Using the threads around her, she formed a shield and used it to parry the attack, but immediately after it, another attack appeared from a completely different direction.
Though the attack was sudden, Lia was able to evade it using the ghostly movement she inherited from her second soul. However, she was unable to continue advancing.
“I’m sorry, miss.” Said one of the black-clothed men. “I could not allow you to go there.”
Anger immediately filled Lia’s mind. Seeing the two men keeping her from rescuing her young master, a vicious expression appeared in her face.
“Puny insects! If something happens to my young master, every one of you will wish you were never born!”
“Sigh, you are very strong, little miss.” Answered the other man. “But if you want to save the young man, then you will have to go through us.”
“You…!”
A terrifying killing intent, even greater than before, appeared around Lia.
“Step aside! My young master is waiting for me!”
“Sigh.” Shook his head one of the men, then, grabbing his daggers with all his strength, he and the other black clothed man waited for Lia.
Immediately after, Lia charged against them.

…
A black-haired boy was currently panting while facing a black-clothed man.
Aiden was currently truly in dire straits.
From the moment when the black-clothed man revealed his cultivation, he had tried with all his strength to pass through him.
Aiden was completely clear that it was impossible for the current him to beat someone at the late core-fusing stage. Moreover, without his saber, the possibilities of winning were even lower.
Moreover, he could not take the scene of the red eyed and multicolored hair Lia from his mind.
Because of it, his strategy from the beginning was to try creating an opportunity to bypass the enemy and run towards the place where Lia was fighting.
Unfortunately, he underestimated the power of a late core-fusing stage cultivator.
Though his body had unexplainably become stronger after the various strange events happening around him, it was still hard for him to evade the attacks of the man uninjured, not to speak about running towards the place where Lia was.
And though the man had been unable to infringe any serious wound in him yet, many small cuts and scratches had filled his body already.
Even his clothes, that had been made with high quality materials able to resist against some weaker attacks, were unable to stop the blade of an enchanted knife.
Every time that the glowing blade of the knife moved in the hands of the man, Aiden had to do everything in his might to try to avoid it.
But even with it, in more than one occasion he had been one step away of being killed.
Seeing the black clothed man about to attack again, Aiden focused completely in avoiding him.
In the precise moment when the man moved, Aiden urged the energy in his body towards his legs with the greatest control possible.
And when the knife was about to hit him, he ordered for the energy to explode, using the rebound to take a step to the left and leave the range of the attack.
But even after it, a new cut appeared in his arm.
The attacker though, wasn’t happy with it. So, immediately after Aiden avoided his attack, he rotated his body in a beautiful movement and throw the knife to his other hand, then, with a backwards grip, he attacked again.
Having just used a great amount of energy to evade the last attack, Aiden found himself unable to avoid the knife coming towards him. So, in a desperate move, he detonated crudely the energy currently present in his right leg, using the counterforce of the explosion to move out from the range of the enemy attack again.
However, such movements came with a price.
In Aiden’s right leg, a small fog of blood appeared, and a part of his skin was broken.
It was the consequence of exploding the energy in his legs rashly.
And currently, similar wounds were filling Aiden’s legs completely.
They were the reason because he had been able to last until now. The result of one of the few techniques he had memorized when he was yet part of his clan.
Exploding the energy in his legs and using cleverly the counterforce generated for it, he was able to gain a momentary boost in his speed allowing him to avoid the attacks from an enemy.
The technique was incredible, but the drawbacks were equally dangerous.
When exploding the energy in the body, the quantity of energy utilized was many times greater than the one used in normal movements. Not just it, but the burden in his body was equally great.
So, this technique was only useful for short bursts of speed.
If his cultivation were at the spirit-awakening stageyoung spirit, then it wouldn’t have mattered.
After all, the quantity of energy and strength of a body in such cultivation realm would had been more than enough to sustain the technique then.
But for the current Aiden, even using it in a hurry was enough to cause injuries.
That was the reason because normally, he didn’t use it.
But currently, he had not more option.
After all, if not because of the speed boost he gets after using the technique, he would have been dead for now.
“You are truly talented.” Said the man. “In a situation where you are facing an opponent an entire realm above you without any weapon, you had been able to last until now.”
“…”
“However, how much longer can you endure? If I’m not wrong, your energy is almost depleted, and the wounds in your body are already beginning to affect your movements. What are you going to do then?”
Aiden didn’t want to admit it, but the man was right.
Currently, his body was filled with injuries, and the energy in his body was in the verge of being depleted.
Not just it, but his saber intent, of which he was so proud, was practically useless now that he didn’t have a saber.
For the first time in a long time, Aiden truly felt what it was to be helpless before a opponent.
