BOOK 2 INTERLUDE 2 – STUDENT DRIVERS

Teaching the girls how to drive the prototype took longer than Johnny would have liked. He first approached them on the idea after he reminded them of what had happened to him after the death derby 500. He needed someone to take over if he ended up being incapacitated. Likewise, he had some random worries about them getting caught up in a derby with him.

It took about 2 months for them to at least get the basics of driving. Along with how to drive in a derby setting. Johnny was fine with that for now. He was impressed how each of them had there own driving style.

Julia ended being a natural fast as she already had experience. Johnny struggled with the others at first. Cleo and Lisa tended to drive too slow or were way to cautious. Qin and Margaret drive to fast or drove to wrecklessly.

He had to work with each of them to get a better understanding with their flaws. They still made mistakes. They ended up becoming less and less eventually. Teaching them how to drive in a derby was a whole other headache.

Johnny taught them how to drive in a derby setting as well. He had set up the prototype to be a racing simulator with a derby theme for himself. He showed them how it worked. The girls found it odd that smashing other cars was a thing at all. Johnny shrugged at the looks on their faces when he showed them. He told them this is what he loved doing for a passion.

Johnny asked if they wanted to try and learn it. Margaret and Qin thought it would be fun. Julia wanted to try it to impress Johnny. While Cleo and Lisa were hesitant on the idea.

Teaching them the rules of a demolition derby and contact racing via Banzai Bangers rule book was rough. The first few weeks he had to teach them in a class about what to expect and how to deal with certain situations. Like it was better to be defensive than offensive. The chances of surviving were higher that way.

The following weeks Johhny had them get accustomed to the prototype. He had tge simulator start off easy and progressively let it get harder to max difficulty.

Johnny had mixed feelings with the results. He just hoped they never had to race with him or in a derby together in a void portal.

Cleo and Lisa were the most disappointing in Johnny’s opinion. Sure they could hit here and there, but he knew they would be in trouble if this happened for real. They struggled trying to make any crippling blows.

Margaret and Qin were a whole other story. He was impressed with the amount of destruction they could pull off. The problem was they tended to end up wrecking out pretty fast. They did in spectacular fashion too.

Julia was the only one he had confidence in though. She managed to last well over half the times she tried. She played the on the defensive to start then would go offensive when enough drivers were knocked out.

Time eventually ran out for them as they needed to prepare for a new task. In a few days they would need to set up a portal beacon with a portal mage.
