CHAPTER 16 - SETTING A PORTAL
Julia gave a full report to Orion on their situation. They had gained new allies and a secure place to set up the portal. Julia, Margaret, and the portal mage made preparations to get the portal going.
The groups had to negotiate with each other to find a suitable spot. The location needed to be in a secure spot in case of an issue. While both parties could have access too.
The location for the portal ended up being set near the summit of the biggest mountain of the furnace peaks, which was an extinct volcano. The group setup a few teleportation pads to get there to where the portal was built.
A lot of materials were needed that apparently weren't available. Johnny was able to assist with the matter using the prototype’s core. Although some of the parts weren't what he was expecting. He had to improvise with what he could produce.
The day finally arrived for Orion and the others to come from the alliance.
Julia stood next to Johnny while they watched the portal mage do their thing. The portal was a circular stone wall that was powered by radiant fragments. It stood sound 15 feet in diameter.
They were standing on guard in case anything went wrong. The worst case was a few powerful rift eaters would break free from the portal.
“At least this didn't end up with some sort of disaster. Usually I lose someone setup beacons for portals when I did these assignments.” Julia told Johnny who was watching intensely.
The portal mage was successful in doing the portal summon when it glowed to life with a radiant white light.
Orion was the first to step out as he was followed by many other alliance members.
He spotted the group as they remained on guard. They didn't move or react until the last of the group made it through. When the last person exited the portal. It fizzled out.

“Glad to see you were successful here Julia along with our champion so far. I would like to stay and chat but I need to have a private meeting with elders. From what you have informed me. It seems things are much worse than I thought.”
“How so?” Julia replied.
First of all the captain has access to rift eaters and new ones too. It tells me he has a chosen as his contact. We need to act fast in figuring out where they are hiding or this world will fall,” Orion spoke in a serious tone.
Julia watched Orion leave onto one of the teleportation pads with a few others. She sighed hating having to do this kind of work getting everyone set up.
“I'll be getting the alliance members set up to find out more of this planet's corruption.” She spoke to Johnny, before moving to speak to Margaret.
“I want you to have your first watch with Johnny Margaret. I really want tte others to have some time to decompress after the recent fight.”
“Understood.” Margaret said to Jukia as she walked away with the others.
Johhny looked at Margaret. “Well I'm going to see what I can still learn about the prototype. Creating new things from the core is a new one for me.”
Everyone left except for a few dragoniod guards, portal mage, and her assigned guards.
Margaret followed Johnny to tte main cavern where the prototype was parked. He got into the car as he turned it on. He quickly was talking with both Albert and Julia's brother to see if they knew anything.
Meanwhile in the elder council room.
Orion was giving his demands and supports to the elders present. The green dragoniod elder was a no show. A few of the present alliance members were curious, but were told that supporters didn't have to attend.
The meeting went on for a few hours before the ground shook violently. Everyone wondered what was going on. A few minutes later Orion’s arm band went off with a warning from the portal mage. All he got was a faint help message before it cut out. Orion explained what was going on as he left. He gathered some help as he ran for the portal mage.
Elsewhere around the furnace peaks the others in Julia’s group got the distress call. They all quickly joined up with Johnny in the main cavern to get in the prototype.
“I wonder what the fuss is all about. All I know is the portal mage said to get the prototype there as fast as possible with everyone.” Johnny spoke with concern to Julia who had just arrived along with tye others.
Everyone climbed into the Humvee as he floored it for the first of the teleportation pads. Everyone barely had time to buckle up as Johnny took off.
