Chapter 7: A Deal with the Incarnates

Chapter 7: A Deal with the Incarnates

Jin finished another successful day of Devil hunting after clearing a small infestation of [Fire Devils] from a small town in Kansas and teleported home to see his family then get some rest.

But upon appearing in front of his house he felt an ominous presence. Jin took at his sword and slowly walked towards his house that was unusually quiet.

“It’s been a while.” A voice came from behind him.

Jin didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. He immediately summoned his sword of flame and teleported behind King and tried to stab him.

King stopped his attacks by grabbing both of Jin’s arms, his grip was like a vice. Even with all of Jin’s newfound strength and speed, it was still far behind the incarnates.

King’s twisted grin made his blood boil as he finally came face to face with him after being betrayed.

Jin slammed his forehead into King’s face and broke free, putting some space between the 2.

The other 3 Incarnates came out of Jin’s house while holding his family hostage.

The sight of his wife holding his son with their faces covered in fear just added more fuel to his rage.

“I was going to hunt you down one by one, so thanks for saving me some time!”

The {God of Knowledge} who had incarnated into the hero Warmind pointed his legendary artifact rifle at Lacey and Leon. “How about we do this the easy way.”

The man wasn’t particularly intimidating as he stood there in a brown fur coat and black suit, but his artifact was enough to make up for his lackluster appearance. [The Stinger] was a golden assault rifle that was covered in gadgets and had the ability to shoot bullets made of celestial energy.

Many heroes were blessed with celestial weapons, but most paled in comparison to what Warmind’s. He was able to overcome his physical limitations by safely killing some [Hell Devils] with this weapon.

Adeline, who had become the Incarnate to the {Goddess of Spirits} sneered, before becoming a Hero she had been a famous model in Paris. She was tall with long blonde hair and had what most men would call an ideal body for a woman. Her dark eyes looked void of any humanity and her expression always made it seem like she wanted to be anywhere but where she was.

She had made a name for herself by healing even the most extreme illnesses and injuries, but it always came at a high price.

The {God of Time} Incarnate, Ezriel, stood expressionless and silent as he kept careful watch of Jin. The man looked like he could be Adeline’s brother, with the same supermodel looks and long white hair. He looked the Godliest out of the Incarnates with glowing white eyes. What Jin noticed most about him was the Scythe he was carrying. It was his. [Red Death's Scythe] was sheathed on the back of the Incarnate.

King looked the same as he did back when he killed Jin. But his golden claws looked more improved and sharper than ever. “You should have just lived quietly, and we never would’ve known that you were alive. But you had to make waves and start hunting Devils again.”

“Well, someone had to make up for laziness of a bunch of pompous Gods.” Jin mocked them.

King laughed it off. “Whatever floats your boat, but we can’t have someone putting our power into question. It’s clear that you have gotten stronger, and we don’t want to waste the time or energy that it would take to kill you.”

“Lazy, you just proved me right.”

“Shut up boy, you don’t know how many Devils we’ve killed over the years to save this pathetic planet!” Jin’s disrespect was starting to get on Warmind’s nerves.

“It’s clearly not enough if they still control a whole continent.”

“Enough!” King shouted. “I’m sure we all want this to be over and you want your family to get back to their lives. So, let’s wrap this up, we’re here for a one-time offer.”

“Unless it ends with you dead, I don’t care.” Jin was ready to teleport and free his family in the blink of an eye.

Ezriel walked over and put his arm around Lacey while not breaking his gaze from Jin.

‘Shit, how’d he know?’ Jin couldn’t do anything if Ezriel was making direct contact with them.

King slowly started to approach Jin. “Your life for theirs.”

“What?” Jin lowered his weapons.

“We don’t know how you came back and frankly we don’t care; we just want you gone and I’m not a huge fan of killing kids, but I will. Soon either we repeat history, or I cut the heads off your wife and son. The choice is yours.” King put his arm around Jin. “We know the Devils you killed; they weren’t pushovers. Well compared to me they were, but it’s clear you can do some considerable damage to our reign. So, we’d prefer if you just rolled over and died again.”

Jin looked at Lacey who was holding back tears as she did her best to comfort Leon. He knew that taking on all the God’s while protecting his family would require strength he doesn’t have… yet.

“You swear you’ll leave them alone when you kill me?” Jin was hesitant to trust the God’s promises.

“Adeline?” King looked over to her.

Adeline summoned a neon blue orb and sent it in King’s direction.

“This is a [Celestial Pact]; upon your death we’ll be unable to touch your family. If we do, then it’s game over and off to the void realm.”

Jin looked one last time at his family, taking in every detail of their faces. Who knows how long it would be until he saw them again, but he vowed that he was going to see them again.

“Deal.”

King’s eyes became filled with bloodlust, he looked towards Jin’s family. “You might want to close your eyes for this.” His wicked face sent chills down Lacey’s spine. She closed her eyes and covered Leon’s face as he cried.
